Souderton vs. Owen J Roberts

Souderton Comments
It was a very exciting opportunity for us to play our home opener against OJR, last year's District 1 champions. It didn't start the way we wanted, with us losing a ball in the wind and a dropped third strike that resulted in them getting 3 runs in the first inning. We found ourselves down 4-0 in the second inning against Maddie Reed, one of the best pitchers in the state. It was cold, and we didn't catch or throw the ball well on the field today, but our girls never gave up. Madi Mott came in relief to throw 5 solid innings and gave us a chance to climb back in the game. After a single by Skyler Byrnes and a walk by Emma Messmer, Kiera Fadden hit a rocket over the fence to get us back within 1 run. We kept it there until the top of the 7th when they added 2 more runs. It was disappointing that we made so many mental and physical mistakes, but I need to do a better job of preparing them for these moments. Our girls work extremely hard, and I know they will push themselves to improve as a team.

Highlights

Skyler Byrnes was our ace last year and she has been fighting some injuires, but she came out today focused and got some good swings in her 2-3 performance.

Megan Borro typically bats 8th for us, but she is a hitter that every team would love to have in their lineup. She has great mechanics and has been hitting the ball as well as anyone on the team. She turned on a few pitches tonight and got two hits off a very good pitcher.

Madi Mott is pitching on the varsity level for the first time this year. She was phenomenal tonight, striking out 12 and only giving up 1 earned run. I was mostly impressed with her ability to work out of some tight spots to keep us in the game.

Madi Mott kept Souderton in the game with 5 strong innings in relief. Kiera Fadden hit a 3-run home run in the third inning to get Souderton within a run.

Kiera Fadden 1-2 3 RBI, HR
Skyler Byrnes 2-3 1 Run
Megan Borro 2-3
Madi Mott 5 IP 12 SO
