Transitioning from turf to grass is always a challenge and that proved to be the case today. Quakertown got off to a slow start and took awhile to find rhythm due to the slower pace of the grass. About midway through the first half we began to control the ball better and made some nice attacks to goal. Jennifer Jiminez collected the rebound and gave the ball to Anna Thompson who pushed it past the goalie for the score with 5:40 left in the first half. Less than 2 minutes later Anna Thompson found Julia Ely open in front of the cage; gave her a quick short pass for the tap in. Just before the half, Cheltenham's Maddie Stackhouse showed aggressiveness and determination and brought the ball into the circle where she passed to Lucy Mackenzie who quickly shot and scored with 2:00 min left on the clock. Half time score 2-1 Quakertown. Mackenzie Hadfield started the scoring in the second half on a great individual effort at the 13:35 mark to make it 3-1. A few minutes later Quakertown's Jiminez brought the ball down the right baseline, weaved through some defenders and made a great cross pass to Ely who slammed the ball into the cage. Cheltenham played tough and never gave up. Quakertown will take the lessons learned from this game and come out stronger next week.
