Tonight we honored two courageous women in our field hockey family. Tonight the Bensalem Owls hosted the Archbishop Ryan Ragdolls for our Breast Cancer Awareness game. We have had the unfortunate situation of one of our team moms being diagnosed with breast cancer two years in a row. These women are warriors and it was our turn to fight with them through this new journey of theirs. What I saw tonight was total support of each other and solidarity against this horrendous opponent. Thanks to all that came out tonight, and thanks to Archbishop Ryan and coach Nickole for helping make this happen. Before the game, we were treated to a special National Anthem sung by our very own Luccianna Krecko.
Mollie Reilly started the scoring off with an assist from sophomore Paige Dando who has been playing spectacularly recently, at the 11:34 left in the first quarter mark. Just about a minute and a half later, Veronica Lennon got her first goal of the year with another assist from Dando. Lennon fired a reverse from the top of the circle that beat the Ryan goaltender. With 3:44 left in the first, Kylie Blank scored her first of three with an assist from sophomore forward Lily Lendzinski. Then in the second quarter with just 4:54 remaining, Blank scored another one unassisted. That made the score 4-0 going into halftime.
Early in the third quarter, just 48 seconds in, Lennon made a spectacular cross-circle pass at the top to an open Lendzinski who fired away to make the score 5-0. It was Lendzinski's third goal of the season and Lennon's team leading sixth assist. Kylie Blank finished off her hat trick with 7:06 remaining in the third, with the third assist of the night from Dando. Ava Hood, who had been working hard all night finished off the scoring and the third quarter notching her third goal of the year with yet another assist from Lennon. Our midfield played so solidly tonight with 5 assists and a goal. We did a good job of finishing tonight with five different players hitting the back of the net. The defense , who all played equal time tonight, got some good experience and played solidly throughout. Defenders Lexi Hartman and Reagan Colgan got substantial minutes and showed off their defensive prowess. We moved the ball around well tonight attempting to connect on more passes down in the Ragdolls 25.
