The Hatboro-Horsham Hatters wasted a solid pitching effort by senior Brian Edgington, falling 2-0 to the Upper Moreland Bears.

Edgington struck out 9 and walked just 1 while allowing only 3 hits and 2 runs, both unearned in his complete game effort.

The Bears Tommy Jacob matched Edgington’s brilliance on the mound and tossed a complete game shutout. Jacob struck out 5 while only allowing 3 hits and 2 walks.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Randy Meehl worked a lead off walk and Ryan Lowry reached on an error. Meehl and Lowry moved up to second and third on a ground out to second base. Edgington then got another groundball, but an error allowed Meehl to score and Lowry advanced to third and the batter, Brandon Kohn advanced to second on the play. Kevin Walder followed up with an RBI groundout to give the Bears the two run lead.

The Hatters threatened in the bottom of the 5th inning. Alex Crim led off with a single and Jake Bianchini followed with a single of his own. Eddie Schultz then loaded the bases with a bunt single. Leadoff man Shaun Thomas grounded into a 1-2-3 double play and Jacob got out of the inning by getting Jake Mayson to ground out to second baseman Shawn Casey. Casey was solid in the field all day, accounting for 7 assists.

Crim tried to ignite a 7th inning rally when he reached base on a hit by pitch with one out in the 7th inning. Unfortunately for the Hatters, the next batter, Bianchini, hit a line drive to Meehl in centerfield that he fielded on one hop and threw out Crim at second base. Meehl then got Schultz to fly out to end the game.

The Hatters (2-2 Overall, 2-2 SOL American) will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Neshaminy at 11:00 AM.
