Lost 5-2 to Stoga

It was definitely not a 5-2 game. They had a 12 minute spurt in second half where they scored 4 goals. Other than that we had them 2-1 with 22 minutes to play in the game.

We came out fast. We had the offense rolling the first 5 minutes of the game. The very first time Stoga crosses midfield they scored. Number 1 for them is the only reason they won the game. She is the best player I have seen all year.

After they scored and we saw their speed we made some adjustments and dominated the rest of the first half.

We got a goal about 6 minutes after they scored. Erin Fitz controlled a ball of a corner scrum from 15 yards out and hit a beauty to tie the game at 1-1.

About 5 minutes later we had a great set piece of a throw in where Ryan Fitz had a long throw that Tori Albrecht headed to Taylor Moyer and Taylor headed the ball in to give us a 2-1 lead.

We continued to dominate, in fact Tori was completely taken out in the box and for whatever reason it was a no call. A PK goal there changes the entire game. I hate putting blame on officials but tonight we did not get any call at all. We took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

We came out and played solid. They tied it up with about 22 minutes to play when one of their girls hit a one in a million shot hitting a half volley from the corner of the 18 that went upper 90. That really gave them life because up until than we were controlling the game.

After that #1 just decided to take over the game. She scored 3 goals in 9 minutes. My back line was exhausted. They haven’t played a game since Friday and looking at there scores this year they don’t play a very competitive schedule so I’m sure they are very well rested. I sincerely hope they tweak the power ranking system to have some type of multiplyer in there for strength of schedule.

I am really proud of this group of girls. They accomplished a lot of “firsts” this year. This was a tough one to swallow because we had them tonight, they had one player put her team on her back. I couldn’t be more proud of my entire team.
