Lacrosse is a contact sport, and that was in evidence today when the Pennsbury Falcons hosted the neighboring, but apparently not neighborly, Council Rock North Indians. In a chippy and physical game, the Falcons lost, then regained their composure, on their way to a hard-fought 10-3 victory.

.The game began with teams trading possession until the Falcon junior middie Ricky Jutkiewicz received a 'thread the needle' pass from senior middie Shawn Caven to start the scorcing. Pennsbury was able to keep CR North off the board, while collecting another goal, this time by junior attack Josh Caven, again assisted by his brother Shawn Caven – who would collect 5 assists on the day.

The second period saw the Falcons again keeping the Indians from the goal, while picking up four tallie; Shawn Caven scoring unassisted on a short-handed goal, senior attack Kenneth Warren on a feed from Shawn Caven, and two goals by Josh Caven – both assisted by Warren. The half ended with Pennsbury holding a 6-0 lead.

But the boys from Council Rock North were not about to give up. They got their foot in the door with a goal by middie Chris Gifford, assisted, by junior middie Drew DiSpirito, and then an unassisted man-up goal by DiSpirito. With the teams' emotions charged, the game took a chippy turn when a CR North defenseman cross-checked a Falcon middie in the back of the neck from behind, leaving the player lying on the ground, but without a call from the referees. Falcon coach Jamie Huber called for play to be stopped, and after getting the trainers out to assist the player, began a loud discussion with the referees on the non-call, for which he was assessed a technical penalty. The Falcons held off the man-up, but were called for consecutive unnecessary roughness penalties, leading to a two-man-down situation, which the Indians capitalized upon with another man-up goal by DiSpirito, cutting the Pennsbury lead to 6-3 at the end of the third period.

The final stanza began with an extended Pennsbury possession which the Indian defense, led by goalie Marc McDonald, held off and turned around for an Indian clear. One of the refs called an offsides on the Falcons. After Pennsbury Coach Huber pointed out the third attackman that was still behind the midfield line, the offsides was waved off, but so was Coach Huber, as the referee ejected him from the game. This galvanized the Falcon team, as they responded by killing off the Indian man-up opportunity and then scoring four unanswered goals. Kenneth Warren took a feed from senior middie Tim Considine and converted to extend the lead to 7-4. Considine then fed sophomore attack Calvin Hopkins on a man-up play for a score. Shawn Caven then returned the favor for Considine by rifling a pass and Considine burying the shot. Shawn Caven finished his unselfish 5 assist/1 goal performance by again finding his brother Josh for the final goal of the contest and giving Pennsbury the 10-3 victory.

The Falcons played great team ball, with assists on 9 of the 10 Pennsbury goals.. Pennsbury was led by Shawn Caven (1g, 5a), Kenneth Warren (2g, 2a) Josh Caven (4g), and Tim Considine (1g, 2a). Council Rock North was led by Andrew DiSpirito (2g, 1a) and Chris Gifford (1g).

On Friday, April 23d at 3:30 pm, the Pennsbury Falcons host the Abington Ghosts in a game that has huge implications on the race for the Suburban One National title.

The win puts the Pennsbury Falcons at 10 - 0 for the year and 4-0 in the Suburban One National conference, while the Council Rock North Indians are 2-4 on the year and 1-2 in the Suburban One National conference.
