William Tennent Comments
The first place team within Continental Conference gave Tennent field hockey a strong challenge in the opening game for the week, and the Panthers fell 9-1 to the Central Bucks East Patriots at First Lt. Colby Umbrell Field at Patriot Stadium.
Tennent gave up six goals in first half, but got a solid performance from senior Tricia McCoy who made twenty-nine saves overall. Tennent’s Gina Markus capitalized at the 23rd minute on a finessed assist from sophomore Jenna Cragin.
"It's refreshing to see a group of student-athletes compete to the end and support each other every single minute of the contest," said Tennent head coach Kaitlyn Rauchut on her team's effort. "Today was a challenging game for us, but were young, united, and have the grit to persevere. We're not going to shy away from strong competition since it only makes us stronger and more determined to get results. Our team is going to capitalize on the opportunities presented, compete as a united front and take every play, pass and position and learn from it, and we were able to do that today."
Riley Donnelly had three goals and one assist for the Patriots, who got off 47 total shots to the Panthers' three.
Makayla Christian, Amanda Woll, Samantha McDonald and Sarah Reed had a strong presence on the defensive end for Tennent. Late in the second half, Alicia Hoefermann, Sydne Fairall and Carly Prichett broke free to earn one of the Panthers' best scoring chances, but the shot went just wide of the cage.
Tennent's defense held the Patriots only to 3 goals in the second half and the Panthers spent a number of minutes away from their defensive end as well.
"I thought CB East did a good job in coming out strong, but I also thought we did a good job controlling the play defensively," said Rauchut. "We were able to get into their defensive end quite often, but unfortunately weren't able to capitalize."
"We'll take the lessons that we learned today and apply them in our game against Pennridge on Wednesday and beyond," said Rauchut. "So there's a lot of takeaways from the game that are positive, especially the depth of our bench and culture of our program. I'm really pleased to see that regardless of the score, we were able to compete until the end. That's a testament to the mindset, energy and the desire of this team to get better."
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, playing host Pennridge at 7:00 p.m.

CB EAST Head Coach, Michelle Finegan:
The team came out strong and was able to capitalize on a lot of opportunities. Reilly Finegan and Riley Donnelly started out the scoring in the first few minutes of play with a well executed corner. Riley Donnelly and Cailey Lever both posted hat-tricks on the day. Abbey Butler, Mackenzie Boyle and Lindsey Adriaansen each added a goal for East. Carly Prichett had a nice day in the goal for Wm Tennent as did Samantha McDonald.
