HH 11 @ QTown 3

Hatboro-Horsham and Quakertown were locked in a batttle through 6 innings before the visiting Hatters erupted for 8 runs in the 7th inning to walk away with an 11-3 win to keep their SOL Continental title hopes alive.

Junior Ryan Murphy got the start on the mound, and also made his first start in the batting order, which gave the Hatters a big boost. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 3 runs, all unearned, on 2 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4. Offensively, he was 2-3 with 2 doubles, a sac fly and 3 RBIs. After starting the Hatters season opener and the league opener, Murphy missed most of the season with a back injury. That appears to be in his past now. Murphy's biggest hit came in the top of the 6th inning when the Hatters were trailing 3-2 with Alex Kleidon (2-3, 3 runs, BB) on first after a 2-out single. Murphy one-hopped the fence in left field for a double that scored Kleidon and tied the game. Murphy had also doubled a run in earlier in the game when he hit a ball off of the fence.

Freshman Colin Kennedy pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for the Hatters. He allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3 to move to 3-0 on the year with a 0.00 ERA.

The Hatters offense came alive as they pounded out 14 hits in the victory. Junior SS Chris Crookham was 3-5 with a triple, 2 runs, and an RBI. Junior Eric Lane was 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Junior Joe Simmons was 2-4 with 2 doubles, a run scored and 2 RBI, including the go ahead 2 run bases loaded double in the top of the 7th. Senior 2B Brad Humski was 1-3 with a double, an RBI, and a sac fly.

The Hatters (11-6 Overall, 8-4 SOL Continental) will share the SOL Continental Championship with Pennridge (9-4) or North Penn (9-4) if they win their last two league games (Friday at CB South; Monday at CB West). North Penn and Pennridge wrap up their league seasons when they play each other on Tuesday, meaning the winner of that game will clinch at least a share of the championship.
