Wissahickon 3, William Tennent 2
The Trojans and Panthers traded goals all afternoon Thursday with Wiss pulling a late winner to pick up the victory.
It was a relatively quiet first half, with the Wissahickon side up a goal, the teams combined for four scores in the second half. Senior Bailey Kasner had a big day for Tennent, scoring two goals with both of them tying the game.
Wissahickon got three goals from different scorers, with Ava Lee playing the role of hero by depositing the game-winner in the final few minutes.

Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels: “Good game. We went up 1-0 after a first half that saw both teams come close on a few chances. Our keeper played a long ball that Katelyn Thomson got on the end of after outrunning two defenders. She was brave and finished it despite a collision with the defenders in front of goal.”
Back and forth second half: “Tennent tied it in the second half with a nice counterattack. We answered shortly after when a great through ball put Gianna Brown in on a 1v1 with the keeper. Gianna calmly finished underneath the keeper to put us back on top.
“Tennent tied it again on a penalty kick with seven minutes left, but Wiss went ahead for good with three minutes remaining. Ava Lee found the corner after a nice build-up to give us the lead.
“The defense played well throughout the match and did a great job handling Tennent’s speedy attack. I was proud of the team effort, with players consistently stepping up to cover for each other and doing the little things needed to get the win.”

The last few years have made frequent foes of the Spartans and Colonials.
Both teams had been on a good run of form as well heading into Thursday’s clash, with the visiting Spartans off to an unbeaten start and the Colonials not having dropped a point after losing their opener, so this was a big one for both. There were chances from both sides, but the afternoon belonged to the defenses with neither willing to give an inch or a goal.

Plymouth Whitemarsh coach TJ DeLucia: “Very good game today between Springfield Township and our group. We knew how dangerous Springfield can be as we've played them the past couple of years and obviously, they were 5-0 heading into this game. After another slow start, our team really rose to the occasion and played a terrific game. Both teams had chances in front of net and both keepers were terrific. Our freshman goalkeeper Jules Rex had her best game of the season. She was really impressive and that should give her confidence moving forward as a young goalkeeper playing Varsity soccer.”
Standout sophomores: “Sophomore left back JJ Lafferty is always so consistent but today truly was her best game of the season. Her effort and energy were contagious, and we needed it. Sophomore midfielder Molly McEvoy was able to win us possession throughout the game, whether it was winning balls in the air or with timely tackles. Today was just another good experience for our team heading into a difficult week with Quakertown and Wissahickon up next.”
Springfield Twp coach Chris Tomarelli: “The Spartans created opportunities but just couldn’t find the back of the net. PW was organized, physical, and played hard all the way through the final whistle. June Kirk was excellent for the Spartans, helping lead a strong defensive effort. We will learn from this one, keep working, and continue to get better.”

There was a little air of mystery around the Golden Hawks’ home opener.
According to coach Nick Heim, there was no record of CR South having ever played Nazareth Academy, even dating back to when the Northeast Philly-based school was part of District 1. On top of that, there wasn’t much information to go on about the Pandas or their personnel, so the Hawks kept their focus internal and on locking up a home win instead.
Thanks to a tidy finish by Guiliana Conetta off the back of a robust run by Clair Vizza, CR South got the offense it needed in a game that saw the Hawks generate a lot of chances and set a good base heading into the next stage of their season.

CR South coach Nick Heim: “We couldn’t get much of a scout on them so we focused on worrying more about us than them. I thought we came out looking good, finding feet and generating chances. The first half was a bit frustrating offensively, and we seemed to do everything but find the net- goal line clearances, hit post, you name it. We went into half 0-0. We stressed continuing to do what we do, and eventually it paid off.”
Breakthrough goal: “Claire Vizza picked up a ball and drove on goal past two defenders and slotted a ball across the box that Guiliana Conetta got on the end of. We continued to create chances, generating double digit corners in the game but the game ended 1-0. Our midfield and defense played really solid- our backs got us going offensively and limited them to one shot on goal throughout the game. A lot to work on but starting off the home slate of games with a win against a quality team is always a good afternoon.”

The Cardinals came into Thursday’s nonleague battle with a traditionally strong Strath Haven side looking for a bounce-back.
UD got it thanks to a robust defensive effort and a potent one-two punch on the attacking end. Freshman Brooke Smith had a breakout effort on the front line, scoring an early goal to put the Cardinals on the front foot, then giving senior Bridget DiMartile a couple chances to keep it going with the Michigan lacrosse recruit putting away a brace.
That was all UD needed thanks to a stellar show from the backs with keeper Evie Steigerwald standing tall in the goal to end the week on a strong note.

UD assistant coach John Topper: “After dropping a disappointing match to PW on Tuesday, our girls bounced back in convincing fashion with a 3-1 victory against a strong Strath Haven side today. Evie Steigerwald was stellar in goal, coming up with a number of key saves early in the game and the back line of Morgan Walsh, Brooke Ellner, Bailey Fichter and Shannon Connaughton put in a tremendous effort to keep Strath Haven scoreless until the waning moments of the game.”
Smith and DiMartile carry the offense: “Freshman Brooke Smith opened the scoring in the 16th minute, and provided the assists for both of senior Bridget DiMartile’s goals with the second being a spectacular through ball to put DiMiartile in on goal. We were proud of the spirit all the girls showed today and hope to carry the momentum into a busy run of games next week.”

The Golden Bears notched an impressive win over defending PIAA Class A champion Faith Christian on Thursday.
UM took a two-goal lead at halftime, then added a third 10 minutes into the second. However, it was anything but a commanding lead as the Lions rallied back quickly to whittle the lead to one midway through the second half.
Madison Moore made four saves in goal across the 80 minutes while the defensive unit stepped up to make sure Faith Christian never found the equalizer in the final minutes.

Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto: “Today was a total team win. Every player stepped up, reflecting the hard work we’ve been putting in at practice. We stayed organized in our attack, moved the ball cleanly through our system, and capitalized on our chances in the final third. Faith Christian proved to be a tough opponent with a strong second-half push, but our squad stayed composed, controlling possession to neutralize their momentum. Standout performances included strong play from Brogan Neeley, Keiley Hawk, Madeline Cox, and Julie Albert.”
First Goal: “Built brilliantly from the back line through the midfield—Emily Skinner connected with Brogan Neeley, who played a precise cross to Haley Moore for her first varsity goal.”
Second Goal: “Aubrey Scarpitti found Keiley Hawk in space, and Hawk finished with a low, hard strike into the far corner.”
Third Goal: “Eva Gorrell served a dangerous ball into the box, where heavy pressure from Keiley Hawk and Madeline Cox forced an own goal.”

A hat trick from Charlotte Manley propelled the Titans to a strong win over a PCL opponent.
The South Florida recruit was on a finishing tear, putting herself in the right spot to cash in on teammates’ passes with Lucy Keane setting up the first two and Kate Walsh the third.
Peyton Karpinski drilled a free kick for a goal and Emily Franklin capped the scoring.

At the start of Thursday’s match, neither Harriton or Lower Moreland had conceded a goal yet this season.
The Rams are currently second in the District 1 4A table, so they’ve been rolling to start the fall while Lower Moreland was the top team in the Class 3A rankings. All that is to say the match played out as billed, with both teams showing what’s helped them to their respective strong starts.
Harriton came out firing, putting two away in the first half and seemingly having the Lions pinned down midway through the second half. Then LM came to life behind the nonstop efforts of seniors Shannon Mahon and Agnes Kroll, scoring twice in the final 19 minutes to earn a deserved draw.

LM coach Todd Hill: “What a battle today! We went up against a really fast and athletic Harriton team! We have not seen a team this year with this kind of speed and athleticism. Unfortunately it took us much of the first half to adjust. In the process we gave up two really well-placed goals by Harriton's attack. However, our team is a really determined team.”
Lions rally: “In spite of the fact that for parts of the game, we really dominated possession and created lots of really good chances, we arrived at 20 minutes left in the game down by two goals. As a result of their committed determination, our girls kept creating more and more chances. Finally with 19 minutes left in the game Junior Emma Leibert and Sophomore Luka Fellah connected on a nice give and go through the box that culminated with a nicely placed Emma Leibert ball in the back of the net. The girls continued to create chances over and over again for the next 15 minutes until once again, the girls overwhelmed Harriton's defense for a tying goal. Sophomore Gabbie Sellecchia sent a nice cross to Sophomore Evie O'Brien who slid a nice ball to Senior Quinn Rozanski's feet and Quinn put an exclamation point on the effort by burying it in the back of the net. It was such a gutsy performance by our girls. And I think it better represents the way in which we put so much pressure on Harriton the whole game. I am really proud of our girls.”
Props: “A big shout-out to senior Shannon Mahon today. I am not sure I have seen anyone work harder than she did in the heat today. Shannon had a great game. Also a shout out to senior Agnes Kroll who worked really hard in the middle of the field today against lots of pressure. She maintained a strong defensive presence in the middle of the field, while starting our attack throughout. Lastly two of our wing players who played strong games today were sophomore Gabbie Sellecchia and sophomore Luka Fellah.”

It was one of those days for Big Red.
Souderton’s attack generated chances but couldn’t put anything away against a Haverford team that’s played a challenging slate so far. Cam Lobel did all she could to keep her squad in the game to finish off a strong week in goal.

The Knights notched their second win of the young season and their first shutout, opening up a 1-0 halftime lead on a Lani Bachmann goal.
Xienna Bachmann all but sealed GMA’s fate with back-to-back goals in the second half – the first with a Paige Gladfelter assist and the second unassisted. Annaliese Marnien (Mallory Klaiber assist) put the finishing touches on the win with a late goal.
“Overall, it was a great rebound after a tough loss to (Central Bucks) East,” NP coach Mike Rio said. “We had a really strong schedule to start the year, and hopefully, it gives us some confidence moving forward that when we play our game for 80 minutes we can hang with anyone.”

North Penn coach Mike Rio: “I thought we started off slow in the first half, and GMA came out fast. Julia Fiore made some good saves to keep it 0-0 until about halfway through the game around the 15-minute mark, we got a direct kick from about 40 yards out that Lani Bachmann hit and put a beautiful shot right under the crossbar. From that point on the momentum shifted, and we came out in the second half and did a good job controlling the play and seeing the game through.
“Xienna Bachmann added the second and third goals. The first was after Paige Gladfelter got the ball to the end line and played a cross back that Xienna redirected in. The third goal was some great individual play as she took on and beat three defenders and slotted a ball by the keep. Annaliese Marnien added the fourth goal after she took the ball down the sideline and beat a defender to get a cross to Mallory Klaiber who was able to direct it back towards Anna who tapped it in.”
Props: “Defensively, we played a solid game and got our first shutout of the season which is something we wanted to accomplish. The usual back line of Jadyn Sperling, Alyssa Chartrand and Allison Schall played great. Kayla Sharp and Addison DelGiorno gave us great minutes back there too to hold the 0.”

The Falcons notched their first win of the young season, seizing early control of Wednesday’s non-league contest and never looking back.
Sofia Gorski got the ball rolling with the game’s first goal, and by halftime Jill Patrick and Julia Hammer had also scored, sending the Falcons into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Emma Krasselt turned a great ball from Rylee McCann into the game’s final goal for the 4-0 final.
