Justine Frantz – Seton Hall University (Diving)

Major: Occupational Therapy (5-year master’s program)

Final list of colleges: Seton Hall, Lafayette, Bryant, UNC-Wilmington

Reasons for choosing Seton Hall: “I chose Seton Hall because of the five-year program and also the environment. I loved the school, I loved the area. It’s so close to New York City. I really felt a bond with the team. I loved the facilities, and they have my major in the master’s program. It was just the right fit for me.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in diving at the collegiate level? “I was actually a gymnast for about 10 years, and then my freshman year I decided to get into diving. I ended up getting injured, but I seriously started considering diving in college when I was a sophomore.”

Upper Moreland diving coach Kim Frantz: “Justine was a gymnast, and she switched to diving in ninth grade, and I think that’s when she was like – ‘This is what I want to do.’ It was always her goal to dive in college, and it was always her goal to dive Division 1, but she knew it was gping to take hard work. She would go to the high school practices and then drive to club practices from her high school practices. The club practices were in New Jersey, so she would spend five hours a day after a school diving and driving to diving. She put a lot of work into recruiting. I think kids don’t realize how much work recruiting is. It doesn’t just happen. People don’t just find you. It was just a testament because that’s what she wanted, and she worked hard to get what she wanted."

Frantz's freshman year she ended up with a back injury, and she didn’t make it to states or districts. Her sophomore year, she finished second at districts and third at states. Her junior year, she finished first at districts and second at states, and then her senior year, she finished second at districts and then she finished second at states.
