Final list of colleges: “Gettysburg and a few other colleges in the Centennial Conference. The Centennial Conference is really a good fit for me.”
Reasons for choosing Gettysburg: “Gettysburg just felt like the right place for me. When I went on my visit and I spoke with the team, I just felt like I fit right in immediately. It felt like it was a
great fit for me for the next four years, and I could see myself being on that team so smoothly without a difficult transition.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “When I was younger, lacrosse was actually my main sport. It transitioned when I started playing field hockey in middle school. I started playing in seventh grade, and I actually had a conflict of whether I was going to go to college for field hockey or not but playing in high school – my senior season solidified for me that I didn’t want this to end. It meant so much to me to know that this is the right thing for me to do.
“The college process is so difficult – talking to a bunch of coaches, and you’re constantly in a little bit of limbo, so that was a little bit difficult, but at the same time, once I played my senior season, I just felt like – this isn’t over.”
New Hope-Solebury coach Gwen Smith: “Olivia was a four-year starter. She’s a hard worker, and she’s a presence on the field. She has good game sense. She was our leading scorer the past two years. She was our primary striker on corners – she was actually a primary player on both offensive and defensive corners. She was a midfielder amd did a good job transitioning the ball up the field. The past two years, she played primarily offensive mid, but she also played defensive center mid.
“Olivia is an excellent student, and she’s a focused, determined athlete who works hard and battles on the field. She had 50 goals and 41 assists in her career. She was first team All-SOL Freedom Division for three years, and this year, she was player of the year for the Freedom Division. She was named academic all-state her junior and senior years, and she received honorable mention all-state recognition her junior and senior year.”
