District 1 Class 3A opening round
11) Council Rock South 17, (22) Abington 6
The Golden Hawks used a balanced scoring attack to defeat #22 Abington Ghosts, 17-6, as nine different Golden Hawks found the back of the net.
--The first half: The opening quarter was tightly contested. Pat Malone drove to the cage to even
the score at 1-1 before Tristan O’Neill gave CR South its first lead. Abington answered late in the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.
Council Rock South took control in the second quarter with five consecutive goals. Brody Walker opened the run, followed by Brian Cowden finishing a feed from Tristan O’Neill. Cowden then set up Malone for his second goal of the game. Cole Telegadis added an unassisted tally before Walker powered his way to the cage for his second goal of the quarter.
Abington responded with three straight goals to cut into the deficit, but Cowden connected with Brendan Rooney for a late score as CR South carried an 8-5 lead into halftime.
--The second half: The third quarter belonged entirely to the Golden Hawks. Faceoff specialist Jake Baniewicz dominated possession, winning the first seven faceoffs of the second half after going 13-for-14 in the opening half. The extra possessions fueled a seven-goal run that put the game out of reach.
Hayden Cattie opened the second-half scoring with a strong dodge from X and finish in tight. Leading scorer Conor McCaffery, who was held scoreless in the first half, erupted for three third-quarter goals. Cowden added his second goal of the day, while Baniewicz took a faceoff win coast-to-coast for a highlight-reel score. O’Neill capped the quarter with a quick-stick finish inside.
The 11th-seeded Golden Hawks got four goals from Conor McCaffrey, while Jake Baniewicz finished an outstanding 21 of 26 at the faceoff X.
--Golden Hawks get defensive: The final quarter featured strong ball control from the Golden Hawks, while the defense locked things down. Gavin Lacey, Tavi Slutsky, Jason Van Sant, Brody Walker, Ben McNulty, and Turner Tovsky anchored a defensive unit that allowed just one second-half goal.

(15) Souderton 9, (18) Plymouth Whitemarsh 6
Logan Blair and Brody Anderson each scored a hat trick as 15th seed Souderton topped 18th-ranked Plymouth Whitemarsh 9-6 in Tuesday’s District 1 3A first-round matchup.
The Souderton defense held PW to one goal in each of three quarters, while building up a 6-2 halftime lead.
Liam Murray led the defensive effort with five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Max Ryon and Alex Benfield also chipped in with three caused turnovers each.
With the victory, Souderton (12-7, 6-3 for fourth in SOL National play) advances and will visit Springfield-Delco at 7 pm Thursday. The Colonials end their season at 11-8 (7-2 for third in SOL American).

It was a tale of two halves.
After a tightly played first half that saw the teams combine for just three goals, the offenses for both sides found their footing after the break.
The two squads combined for six goals in the third quarter, but 10th-ranked Downingtown East’s four third-period goals were enough to put it over the top and edge 23rd-ranked Pennsbury 8-6 in Tuesday’s District 1 3A opening-round matchup.
John Curtis had a hand in five of the Falcons’ six goals, registering two goals and three assists. Colin Rakowski made 12 saves, while Luke Flannery won 13 of 18 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls.

(13) West Chester Henderson 15, (20) Central Bucks East 6
West Chester Henderson scored seven unanswered goals to open the game, and Central Bucks East could never recover.
The 20th-seeded Patriots trailed 8-2 at halftime and could not dig themselves out of the hole, ending their season in a 15-6 loss to 13th seed Henderson in Tuesday’s District 1 3A first-round matchup.
Aiden Zimmer and Jack Williams each scored twice for the Patriots, who close out the season at 9-10 overall (4-5 for seventh in SOL National play). Alex Sipperly made 6 saves for East.

Central Bucks West could not slow down the explosive Garnet Valley offense.
The 16th seeded Jaguars exploded for seven first-quarter goals and added 11 second-half tallies to roll to a 21-9 victory over 17th seed Central Bucks West in Tuesday’s District 1 3A opener.
The Bucks rallied with seven second-quarter goals, but the Jags added three of their own to take a 10-8 lead into halftime. Then Garnet Valley powered in 11 goals in the second half while holding the Bucks to a lone goal after the break.
The Bucks got four-point games from Colton Albrecht, Luke Fisher (3 goals, 1 assist each), and Michael Rafalowski (1 goal, 3 assists).

Ninth seed Perkiomen Valley scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and rolled to a 12-2 victory over 22nd-seeded Hatboro-Horsham in Tuesday’s District 1 3A opening-round game.
The Hatters finish the season at 11-7 overall (5-4 for fifth place in SOL American play).

(21) Haverford 14, (12) Council Rock North 6
Twenty-first seed Haverford pulled off the upset in Tuesday’s District 1 3A game, eliminating 12th seed Council Rock North 14-6.
Trey Minter led North with two goals and one assist, while Chase Steadman chipped in with a pair of goals.
