Council Rock South Golden Hawks used a balanced scoring attack to defeat #22 Abington Ghosts, 17-6, as nine different Golden Hawks found the back of the net.
The opening quarter was tightly contested. Pat Malone drove to the cage to even the score at 1-1 before Tristan O’Neill gave CR South its first lead. Abington answered late in the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.
Council Rock South took control in the second quarter with five consecutive goals. Brody Walker opened the run, followed by Brian Cowden finishing a feed from Tristan O’Neill. Cowden then set up Malone for his second goal of the game. Cole Telegadis added an unassisted tally before Walker powered his way to the cage for his second goal of the quarter.
Abington responded with three straight goals to cut into the deficit, but Cowden connected with Brendan Rooney for a late score as CR South carried an 8-5 lead into halftime.
The third quarter belonged entirely to the Golden Hawks. Faceoff specialist Jake Baniewicz dominated possession, winning the first seven faceoffs of the second half after going 13-for-14 in the opening half. The extra possessions fueled a seven-goal run that put the game out of reach.
Hayden Cattie opened the second-half scoring with a strong dodge from X and finish in tight. Leading scorer Conor McCaffery, who was held scoreless in the first half, erupted for three third-quarter goals. Cowden added his second goal of the day, while Baniewicz took a faceoff win coast-to-coast for a highlight-reel score. O’Neill capped the quarter with a quick-stick finish inside.
The final quarter featured strong ball control from the Golden Hawks, while the defense locked things down. Gavin Lacey, Tavi Slutsky, Jason Van Sant, Brody Walker, Ben McNulty, and Turner Tovsky anchored a defensive unit that allowed just one second-half goal.
