Mia Kiskurno was on top of her game in Tuesday’s rivalry game against the Golden Hawks. The Indians’ ace allowed just two hits in the complete game shutout win, striking out 12 and walking one.
“Mia Kiskurno continues to rise to the moment in big games, and today was no exception,” Rock North coach John Engelhardt said.
The Indians put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the second and then put some distance between themselves and the Hawks with three runs in the fourth. Highlights of the inning included doubles by Zoe Hardy and Chelsea Seiler (RBI) and a two-run single by Kiskurno. Rock North added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Key inning: Bottom of second – With the two teams locked in a scoreless tie, the Indians put a pair of runs on the board. Alison Bodick was safe on an error, and Katie Wilkowski singled. With two outs, Liv Schlindwein hit a triple to center field that plated a pair of runs.

“Going up against a strong CR South softball program with recent state success, we knew we had to be sharp. Scott Molle has built a really solid team over there. Mia led the way with 12 strikeouts, and our offense followed with Liv Schlindwein, Zoe Hardy, Zoe Hornstein, and Katie Wilkowski each collecting two hits. Liv’s two-out triple helped spark us early. It was a true team win against a talented, up-and-coming group. We’ll enjoy it tonight and get ready for Pennsbury on Thursday.”

The Falcons opened up a 7-2 lead and then withstood a seventh inning rally by a Neshaminy team that edged the Indians 4-2 in the first go round.
“The last time we played them, this kid (Adriana Superka) had a bunch of strikeouts against us but not quite as many today,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “We doubled our hit production – we had six the last time and we had 12 today.”
Freshman Paige Fidishun earned the complete game win.
“Paige threw a lot of pitches, a lot of pitches,” McSherry said. But the cool thing was – in the seventh inning, they mounted a rally and scored three runs, and she came up with two big strikeouts.”
Neshaminy’s seventh inning rally included singles by Keira Secoda and Zahmira Coppola-Miller to open the inning. Fidishun recorded the first out with a strikeout. A walk loaded the bases, and a run crossed the plate on a passed ball. An RBI single by Ellie Miller made it a 7-4 game. A third run crossed the plate on a groundout, but Fidishun slammed the door on the rally with a huge strikeout.

The Tigers got contributions up and down their lineup, and they seized control of Tuesday’s rivalry game from the outset, opening up a 3-1 lead after one inning and then erupting for 10 runs in the second inning on their way to the mercy rule win.
Lucianna Oliveras had three hits out of the leadoff spot, Addie DaSilva was 3-for-3, and Taylor Carney had a productive day, collecting three hits – all doubles – and driving in five runs.
Melanie Mahler earned the win in the circle.

--A team win: “It was good to get a win after losing to Pennsbury and then (CR) South – two games we were in for a little bit but made some mistakes and couldn’t hang, so it was nice to see the girls show up and contribute.
“Especially Luci Oliveras. She’s been playing well the entire season, and she’s been on a tear. She’s our leadoff, and she’s doing everything – base running, playing outfield. She’s just every tool that we need on the team, and then Mel Mahler’s a freshman pitcher, and she hits the ball. Addie (DaSilva) is a sophomore and Taylor (Carney) is a freshman, so we have a lot of young girls contributing. The front end of our lineup is tough. They’re having good at bats, and they have a plan at the plate, and they’re executing that plan and adjusting when it doesn’t go well the first at bat.
“Skyler Mahler is a junior and Braelyn (Horan) is a junior, and they contribute all the time as well. It was just a complete effort today. Alyvia Albertelli, another freshman, stepped in today and played well in the outfield. She got in there and was part of the mix.
“Kudos to Bensalem – they don’t quit. They just keep playing. Believe me, we’ve been on the other side, and it’s tough to keep going it when you’re not getting results. They’re tough and they just keep playing. They scored six runs on us, but our girls were just dialed in. It was just a great team effort, and that’s what you want.
“Our plan is to make playoffs, and that’s going to stay the same until we’re not. It’s in front of us if we do what we need to do.”

Felicia Connolly is making it look oh so easy.
The Villanova-bound senior was perfect for five innings in Tuesday’s abbreviated contest, retiring all 15 batters she faced -12 by strikeouts.
“I think she had one three-ball count,” North Penn coach Rick Torresani said. “Right now, she’s in the zone and pitching really, really well.
“I don’t care who you’re playing to be able to go and pitch a perfect game whether it’s five or seven innings – that’s truly amazing, and she continues to impress everybody, and she continues to work hard.”
While Connolly was stealing the spotlight in the circle, Gabby Battavio was doing the same at the plate. The Knights’ cleanup batter was 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs.
“She’s hitting the ball really well,” Torresani said. “She’s batting fourth for us now, and she’s driving in runs. We weren’t getting them driven in, but in fact, the whole team is starting to hit well, and that’s a big key. If you’re going to do it, this is the time to start doing it.”
Despite the outcome, Pennridge coach Crystalrae States liked what she saw from her pitcher.
“Brooke Souder did exactly what we needed her to do which was keep batters off balance,” the Rams’ coach said. “They are a good hitting team, but she kept them at bay for a majority of the at bats.
“Our defense needed to pick up more plays. Unfortunately, that’s been the story all season, and while we have cleaned things up, we still need to do better. Felicia (Connolly) threw a nice game against us and earned a no hitter. We will need to regroup for our next set of games.”

It was a Senior Night to remember for all four of Souderton’s seniors.
Granted, it didn’t look all that promising when the Indians found themselves staring at a 4-0 deficit after just one at bat for the visiting Patriots. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles by Hailey Helmstetter and Sydney Hahn.
Souderton got one run back in the bottom of the first, but the Patriots added a run in the top of the second to up their lead to 5-1.
But not for long.
With one swing of senior Kathryn Jones’ bat in the second inning, the game was tied as she hit a grand slam to left field.
The Indians took their first lead (6-5) in the fourth when Jones, who had tripled, scored on Kiera Fadden’s double to center field.
It was a 7-6 game after East tacked on a run in the fifth when Carly Franklin smashed a triple right field. A three-run home run by Skyler Byrnes in the sixth inning gave the Indians their final margin of victory.
Jones also notched the win in the circle, striking out the only six batters she faced in a contest that saw coach Tyler Bui use four pitchers.

--Special seniors: “It was a really special night celebrating our extraordinary seniors. You don't always see all of your seniors succeed on Senior Night, but all of them did a great job helping us come up with the win.
“Sklyer Byrnes pitched two innings for us and hit a big three-run homer. Ava Detwiler pitched an inning, got on base twice, and scored a run. Izzy Shurtz had a hit and scored a run. Kathryn Jones pitched two scoreless innings and filled up the box score offensively. She hit a rocket for a grand slam that tied up the game in the second inning. Kathryn is a legitimate utility player, so it was fitting to allow her to play every position on Senior Night.
“All four of our seniors are committed to playing softball at the next level. Their programs are getting an extremely talented group of players, but more importantly, they are getting fun-loving girls with tremendous character. I know their time with Souderton softball will eventually end, but I'm just not ready for it. Our coaching staff will cherish every moment that we have left with them this season. They are truly special.”

Hannah McClintock had herself a day at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. No hit loomed larger than her single in the bottom of the seventh that plated courtesy runner Aubrey Griffin with the winning run for the walk-off win.
It didn’t look as though the Titans would need any late-game heroics when they opened the game with a three-run first that was highlighted by an RBI double by McClintock and a two-run single by Megan Sadow. They led 5-1 after three innings only to watch the Bucks rally to even the score.

The visiting Cardinals scored early and often, putting runs on the board in each of the first six innings, but the Panthers didn’t make life easy.
“They came out strong in the first, answering with two earned runs after we scored first and then went down fighting in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs before Kyla recorded the final strikeout,” UD coach Heather Boyer said.
Sophia Vitella’s 4-for-4 effort – which included a double and two RBIs - led the Cardinals. Amelia Jesuit added three hits, including a double.

“This was an important game tonight, and the girls got it done. Really strong team effort on both sides of the ball. Defense stayed locked in, even when Quakertown pressured us. We scored in six out of seven innings; we’ve been emphasizing that we need to approach each inning as a new game and are striving to “win the inning” and we did that five of seven times tonight.
“Also impressive was our base-running; after our game against Souderton last Friday, we talked about how well they ran the bases and how important it is to be aggressive in that aspect of the game and the girls responded to that as well. I’m really proud of how they played and this definitely sets the tone for the last four games of the regular season.”

Sophomore Lyla Glazer might not be a household word to fans of Wissahickon softball, but she might be if Tuesday’s home debut is any indication.
“We only have one varsity pitcher, and she has tendinitis in her shoulder and is done for the year,” Wiss coach Mike Borkowski said of Sydney Darnell. “Lyla’s been pitching pretty well down at JV. She’s been coming along, and she actually pitched at PW the other night for their Senior Night. In four innings, they hit her for six runs, which against PW is pretty good.”
Glazer did much better than that on Tuesday, allowing just two hits and one run (unearned). She walked five and fanned three.
“She kept them off-balance,” Barkowski said. “She has a little different motion, throws a little slower but with movement, and it kind of messed them up. They didn’t hit any balls hard against her. She did a nice job.
“I’m one of those coaches who think you can always do better. I challenged her yesterday to pitch better than she did against PW and last the whole game and to be strong and mature out there, and she was. She did a good job. I’m very happy.”
Glazer wasn’t the only hero in Tuesday’s win. Sophomore Tara Plover had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs and also was Glazer’s batterymate behind the plate.
“She has worked so hard in the offseason and in practices,” Barkowski said of his catcher. “I can’t be more proud of that kid. Defensively, her game calling, her hitting – she’s been terrific.
“She blocks 90 percent of the balls. She threw a runner out stealing today. She’s been terrific. The other thing is she’s a great kid.”
Julia Lentz also had a big day, finishing 3-for-4 with four runs scored.

Gia Bono had one of those days most hitters don’t even dare dreaming about.
In five trips to the plate, Bono had three home runs and finished with seven RBIs in a dazzling offensive outing. She had two of those in a 10-run seventh – the first was a two-run shot and the second a three-run blast. She also had a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
For the game, the Colonials had four home runs with Anna Powel (who also had a triple) and Lizzy LaNoce accounting for the other two. It was all part of a 16-hit barrage that included eight extra-base hits.
Lost in the shuffle of PW’s offensive onslaught was the three-hit gem in the circle by Liv Brodzinski, who did not walk a batter and fanned 10 in the complete game shutout. For good measure, she also had two doubles.
“I do want to shout out Liv Brodzinski for pitching a great game on our end,” PW coach Mike Perez said. “She finished the complete game victory scattering three hits, striking out 10, and most importantly walking none. Leadoff walks have been our kryptonite recently, so it was nice to see a clean sheet there.”

“Anna Powel (lead off 3B), Liv Brodzinski (rbi 2B) and Lizzy LaNoce (rbi 1b) broke the 0-0 tie to give us a 2-0 lead after 4 innings. A solo HR by Gia Bono in the 5th gave us a 3-0 lead. Other than that, it was a pitchers’ duel into the seventh inning.”
--Getting offensive: “I was happy to see our offense really come alive in the seventh to close out the game too.
“Gia Bono had a huge day with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs. Anna Powel finished with a triple and home run, and Lizzy LaNoce was 2-3 w a home run and three RBIs. Lori Flannery, Liv Brodzinski (2 doubles), Joslyn Perez and Emily Dobrowolski all finished with two hits apiece.

The visiting Panthers – thanks to a two-run single by Gabriella Petro - broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fifth. The Spartans had an immediate answer, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning and upped their lead to 6-2 before the Panthers scored two in the seventh.

“We played very good defensively and really executed at the plate. We capitalized on key situations. Our pitching was very strong with Reese Kaub going six strong innings and Julia Mathews coming in to close the game in the last inning in a tough situation. Jordyn Serrao had a great day at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Reese Kaub was also 2-for-3. Nora Manchester had a huge two-strike bunt with an RBI.”

The visiting Lions benefitted from three LM miscues as well as two walks to plate three unearned runs in the top of the first. Kaylee Harris’ RBI single was the lone hit of the inning.
That inning, however, was hardly indicative of a game that saw New Hope pound out 16 hits before the game was halted after four-and-a-half innings.
In the circle, Mabel Klossner turned in another strong outing, allowing just two hits while fanning nine and walking none.
Riley Sim set the tone for New Hope’s potent offence with three hits. Morgan Foster had a pair of hits – both doubles, and Rachel Sim also had two hits, including a triple. Dagny Mobley added two hits and one RBI.

Key inning: Top of third – The Lions led 4-0 heading into the third when they plated five more runs. Mary Stefnache singled to lead off the inning, and one out later, Danielle Wilson singled. Both runners scored on a double to center by Morgan Foster. A single by Rachel Sim plated Foster, an error allowed another run to score, and the fifth run was scored on a fielder’s choice.

Camryn Horne had herself a varsity debut to remember.
The freshman hurler did not allow a hit in Tuesday’s abbreviated contest. She walked one and fanned six.
“Camryn Horne had her varsity debut today and did great for us today,” UM coach Melanie Martino said. “Camryn has been doing fantastic on JV all season, and her first varsity game was no different.
“She struck out six, surrendered zero hits and zero runs. I'm so proud of her and we are looking forward to seeing what she does over the next few years.”
The Golden Bears scored all the runs Horne would need in a four-run first, and they added four more in a second inning that was highlighted by Hailey Kramer’s two-run triple. A three-run third – which included an RBI double by Sofia Magnagna - assured the Bears of an early finish.

Key inning: Bottom of first – Layla Knecht and Melissa Torpey hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning with Knecht scoring on the throw on Torpey’s single. Taylor Pagano drew a walk, and Torpey scored on a groundout by Claire Walton. Sofia Magagna singled home the third run, and the bases were loaded when Hailey Kramer drew a walk. A walk to Camryn Horne forced home the fourth run of the inning.
Up next: Upper Moreland will host Springfield Twp Thursday (6pm), and Cheltenham will host New Hope-Solebury Thursday.
