SOL Liberty Division
Wissahickon 4, Quakertown 0
Setting up what promises to be a huge final week of the regular season in the Liberty Division, Wissahickon and Nate Hammond showed up to Quakertown on a mission Thursday night and responded with a 4-0 victory that leaves the Trojans tied for the top spot.
Wissahickon will play a three-game series with co-leader Plymouth Whitemarsh, starting Monday, while Quakertown is one game back.
Hammond pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out six, to pick up the win. At the plate, he had a key double and an RBI.
“A big win against a quality team,” said Trojans coach Andy Noga. “Nate Hammond dominated on the mound. I thought Nate, catcher Josh Stonesifer, and pitching coach Colin Kennedy were all locked in and kept Quakertown off balance all game. Big-time performance from all three.

Key Inning: Top of the 3rd - Chase Neumeister ripped a triple to left field to start the inning, and one batter later scored on a Padraig Romano sac fly to give Wissahickon a lead it wouldn’t surrender.
Wissahickon coach Andy Noga:
“Our pitching staff is starting to find its groove at the right time, and that’s a credit to Colin Kennedy and the work he’s put in with those guys.
“Defensively, Nate Binkley continues to do a tremendous job in center field, giving us a ton of confidence out there.
–More Props: “Offensively, it was the Chase Neumeister game. He sparked us with an opposite-field barrel for a leadoff triple. Padraig Romano, who has been patiently waiting for his number to be called, stepped up and got us on the board with a team at-bat and a sac fly.
“Chase found his way on again with a routine ground ball that turned into an error thanks to a hard 90 out of the box. Nate Hammond made it hurt, helping himself with a double to bring in an insurance run.
“We’re excited for the opportunity next week to play for a league championship.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 10, Abington 0
The bats have come alive at the right time, and with a dynamic week at the plate against Abington, Plymouth Whitemarsh finds itself in position to play for a division title in the last week of the regular season.
Thursday’s 10-0 win capped a week that saw the Colonials score 35 runs in three games. In all, in a five-game winning streak, PW has outscored its opponents 59-26.
In the finale against Abington, it scored 10 runs on 11 hits, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and finishing the game off via the mercy-rule in the sixth.
And Max Eagland pitched a two-hit shutout over six to pick up the win.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd - Up 1-0, PW tacked on three more, as Brody Stump and Mason Eagland had RBI singles, and a third run scored on an error.
PW coach Chris Manero:
“It was a really dynamic week for our offense. We picked up 35 runs on 35 hits in three games. And, most importantly, that production came from a bunch of different guys throughout the lineup.
“I think some of that was sparked in the series last week, and we kept it rolling.”
–On the mound: “Max Eagland was outstanding on the mound today. We turned a big double play to get him out of a jam in the first, and he took control the rest of the way.”
–Props: “We spread out 11 hits today, but we also walked 10 times. We stress the importance of the free 90s, and it was a big part of winning this game.
“In the bottom of the second inning, Brody Stump connected for a two-out RBI single. With that hit, he set a single season hits record for our program. So many great players have worn this uniform since 1955, and this is a remarkable achievement for a kid who is having an outstanding junior season.”

Upper Dublin 3, Hatboro-Horsham 0 (8 innings0
A three-game sweep over Hatboro-Horsham has Upper Dublin surging to the close of the regular season, and the Cardinals have a lot to play for in the final series next week against Quakertown.
Thursday, it took extra innings to snap a scoreless stalemate, and there the Flying Cardinals put up three runs on two hits, with timely hitting and taking advantage of two walks and a passed ball.
Luke Caron, who walked, went to second on a sacrifice and later scored on that passed ball, also picked up the win on the mound, with 7 1/3 innings of scoreless pitching, allowing three hits and striking out 11 before leaving after 101 pitches. Braeden Skahan recorded the final two outs to close out the game.
For the Hatters, Chase Canney also turned in a stellar outing on the mound, allowing just three hits and no earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Key Inning: Top of the 8th - Luke Caron walked, went to second on Noah Watson sac bunt. An Anthony Hammill single put runners on first and third. A passed ball scored Caron, and Michael Lombardo scored two with a two-run single.
UD coach Ed Wall:
“It was a great game and a tough pitching duel today. Luke continues to improve, spotting up and inducing a greater amount of poor contact. Chase was really tough for the Hatters; kept us off balance all game.
“We are playing better, but today our toughness and perseverance carried us through some challenging moments.
“Mike Lombardo came up with the huge hit we were hunting all game.
“I’m very proud of our boys and program.”

SOL Freedom Division
Springfield Twp 5, Upper Moreland 1
After a couple of tough losses to Upper Moreland to open the week, Springfield was looking for a bounce-back game in the final of three games with the division leading Golden Bears. And the Spartans got just that in a big way.
A four-run third inning blew things open, and Springfield rode the pitching of Gus May to knock off and hand UM its first loss of the season by a 5-1 final score on Thursday.
May pitched five shutout innings, scattering six hits and not walking a batter. Jibril Tawfeeq closed things out over the final two innings.
Mike Capoferri had a home run and a double for the Spartans, as well.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 4th - Mike Capoferriu led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. After a pair of walks, Rocco Lugrine hit a RBI single, and with two outs, Jake Kirk hit a two-run single to make it 5-0.
Springfield coach Rob Bond:
“This was a big win for us. The game had to be moved to Upper Moreland due to our field being not ready to play. We have struggled all season with different parts of the game. The coaching staff is proud that they put a complete game together. Upper Moreland always plays sound fundamental baseball, and it was great to see us match them today.
“Gus May really pitched well. He competes every time he takes the ball. We used Jibril Tawfeeq in relief for the first time and he did an excellent job.
“Big HR from senior Michael Capoferri to get us going. Jack Kirk, Rocco Lugrine and Jake Gibson had big RBIs.”

New Hope-Solebury 7, Cheltenham 6
After giving up two in the top half of the inning, New Hope-Solebury countered with three in the bottom of the seventh to walk off a thrilling 7-6 win over Cheltenham in the final game of an evenly-matched three-game series.
After Charlie Plebani’s RBI single tied the game, two outs later, the Lions won it on an error.
New Hope won two games in the series by one run, in its last at bat.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - Lucas Kevorkian led off the inning with his fourth double of the game. Anthony Whalen then smacked an RBI triple to right field. Charlie Plebani’s RBI single tied the game at 6, and then after two outs, a Gavin Caponegro grounder was misplayed, and the winning run scored to end the game.
New Hope coach Tony Vlahovic:
“Great high school series between New Hope and Cheltenham. Very evenly matched teams with both teams displaying solid hitting throughout the lineup and good leather.
“The Cardiac Kids of New Hope for the fourth time this season were trailing in the seventh by two and clutch hitting by Lucas Kevorkian, Anthony Whelan and Charlie Plebani brought the game-winner home.
“Lucas Kevorkian was unbelievable at the plate with four doubles. He is definitely putting all his off-season workouts together at the plate and behind it.
“Our pitching did a solid job by JT Bach, Charlie Plebani and Blake McCagg keeping the very athletic Cheltenham team’s running game down.
“Lukas Nakkula has done a great job building a program in Cheltenham. They are definitely a force.”

SOL Colonial Division
North Penn 10, Souderton 4
After a pair of difficult losses to start the week to its archrival, North Penn salvaged Game 3 of its series with Souderton with a 10-4 win Thursday, and also gave itself a chance to play for something next week in the final series of the regular season.
The Knights are unofficially in the No. 30 spot in the District One Class 6A power rankings, but not a lot separates about 8-10 teams fighting for the final spots in the 24-team tournament. And with three games against first-place Pennridge to go, NP can still make some noise.
Thursday, pitcher Grayson Fontaine improved to 4-0 in league games, including three that came after the Knights lost the first two games of the series.
Key Players: NP - Mason DiLorenzo (3-for-5, 1 RBI), Christian Barnes (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Wil Rittenhouse (2-for-4, double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Grayson Fontaine (WP, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K); S - Gavin Wisnoski (HR, 2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd - Wil Rittenhouse reached on an error to start the inning, followed by two walks and a bases loaded hit-batter to start the scoring. Another run scored on a passed ball, and Mason DiLorenzo, Bud Murphy, Christian Barnes and Rittenhouse added RBI singles to make it 6-0.
NP coach Kevin Manero:
“We’re in a position now where we have no choice but to win. And we were able to get a nice crooked number inning today to get control of this one.
“Grayson Fontaine has been very good at ending our weeks the right way this season. I don’t think he had his best stuff today, but he followed base runners with outs and was able to really minimize threats with big pitches when he had to.”
Next up: North Penn (8-8, 5-7 SOL) plays at first-place Pennridge on Monday. Souderton (9-7, 8-4 SOL) hosts CB West in Game 1 of its series Monday.

Central Bucks East 11, Central Bucks West 7 (9 innings)
Sometimes, a team just has to find a way.
After tough losses to rival CB West to start the week, CB East needed to find a way and it did, taking advantage of nine walks, three hit-batters and six errors, rallying to tie it in the seventh and win it 11-7 in nine innings against the Bucks on Thursday.
The Patriots had just three hits on the afternoon, but were opportunistic when it had to be, rallying from a 5-2 deficit after six innings with a five-spot in the top of the seventh. After West tied it in the bottom of the seventh, East then won it with four in the top of the ninth.
Key Players: CBE - Dustin Weber (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), CJ Gillman (2 RBIs; WP, 2 2/3 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 9th - Tyler Muszi and Sean Hill started the inning with walks, and a two-run single by Dustin Weber put East in front. Three straight West errors plated two more runs before the inning was over.
CB East coach Kyle Dennis:
“I don't really know how to put it into words. It was an odd one. Credit to our guys for being resilient, fighting back.
“Kudos to my kids for fighting back in the seventh, and then West comes back and ties it up, and we were able to kind of put it away in the ninth. So, a lot of resilience, I guess, is a good way to describe it for both teams, and especially for our guys, too.”
–Tough losses: “We had two bad innings in those first two games, and they, unfortunately, happened to be the first innings and the decisive ones. We gave up seven in the first on Monday and lost 9-2. We played pretty well after that first inning. And then Tuesday night again, just had a rough first inning, gave up seven, ended up losing 8-2.
“Obviously, you can't disregard those innings, but we didn't play poorly outside of those two innings across those two games. We had some defensive miscues and some untimely things that happened in those first two games pitching-wise and stuff, and outside of those two innings, we played well enough to win, and today we were able to scratch one out. I don't know how else to describe it.”
–Props: “So Dustin Weber gets a shout out, because he had two (hits), three RBIs and he's hitting fifth for us. He's a second-year varsity guy playing first base, doing a solid job there. The hitting piece he's figuring out, so we're thrilled to have him do that.
“And Mason Hill pitched, and, as a sophomore, he’s had some issues around the plate with some walks today, but CB West is a really good team—a really good hitting team. A lot of power in that lineup, and we were happy with how he pitched through some adversity today.
“CJ Gillman, a junior, came in and got the win, just filling the zone up with strikes. He only threw two innings, and he gave up six hits, but only one run, so he's throwing a contact, and he did his job.”
Next up: CB East (5-10, 4-8 SOL) plays at CR South in a non-league game Saturday. CB West (11-5, 8-4 SOL) plays at Souderton in Game 1 of three on Monday.

Neshaminy 2, Council Rock South 0
Another game, another pitching gem for Neshaminy.
Thursday, it was Jared Kligerman’s turn, as he tossed a complete-game four-hitter, as Neshaminy pulled off the series sweep with the 2-0 win over CR South.
Kligerman didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight.
The win sets up a winner-take-all, three-game series with rival Pennsbury next week.

Key Innings: Bottom of the 4th - Chase Bonner hit a one-out double to center field. After a single by Brandon Lall, Noah Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to plate the game’s first win.”
Neshaminy coach Dan Toner:
“Jared Kligerman pitched a fantastic game again today. On a day our bats were quiet, we really needed to rely on him. He attacked the strike zone all game, got ahead of hitters, and was very efficient.
“We didn’t do much on offense besides Chase Bonner, Brandon Lall, Noah Wallace and Matt Gryn. Chase Bonner and Brandon Lall had all the hits today and Chase scored our only two runs. Noah Wallace had the first RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly and Matt Gryn was able to drive in a run on a bases loaded ground ball to the SS.
“Today was a day where you say ‘a win is a win.’ We are excited for our final SOL series against Pennsbury next week.”
