Neshaminy 5, Council Rock South 4
After a stretch of lopsided wins, Neshaminy was definitely pushed on Monday in Game 1 of its three-game set against CR South on Monday.
Neshaminy fell behind early, battled back to tie, fell behind again in the top of the seventh, but with two in the bottom of the seventh, rallied for the 5-4 victory.
A pair of sac flies clinched the walk-off win.
“We knew coming into today’s game that runs weren’t going to be as easy to come by as they have in previous games with Reed Courtier on the mound (for CR South),” said Neshaminy coach Dan Toner. “Our game plan against him was to be a ‘hard out.’ Put the ball in play, use our speed to get on and around the bases, and hopefully have someone get a guy in.
“In games where you know it’s not going to be a high scoring game, situational baseball is key. We did a nice job of creating opportunities.”

Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - Trailing 4-3, Brandon Lall led off the inning with a single, and was followed by a Noah Wallace walk. Matt Gryn was then intentionally walked to load the bases. A Sam Hitchen fly ball to center field scored the tying run, and one batter later, Nick Sassano scored Wallace with the game winner with a sac fly to center field.
Neshaminy coach Dan Toner:
–Props: “Although we were focused on keeping the ball low, Dan Marable came up and hit an absolute no-doubt-about-it home run. It was extremely impressive to watch him turn on a ball the way he did, especially against a power pitcher like Reed. It gave us a ton of momentum.
“To win the game in the bottom of the seventh, it was classic get him on, get him over and get him in. Sam Hitchen had the tying sacrifice fly, followed by Nick Sassano with the game-winning sac fly. I was pumped for both of those guys.
“Matt Gryn did a nice job on the mound. He didn’t have his best stuff but still battled and kept us in the game. He also should have been out of an inning where some runs scored, because we didn’t take care of the ball.
“Matt’s pitch count got higher than we would have liked, so we decided to go to Jared Kligerman. Jared came into the game and was very impressive.”
Next up: Game 2 of the series is set for Tuesday at CR South.

Council Rock North 12, Harry S Truman 0
After a couple of tough weeks against division co-leaders, CR North bounced back in a big way, snapping a five-game losing streak with a six-inning, mercy-rule victory at Truman on Monday.
The Indians got the pitching it needed with Ben Hinderberger’s three-hit shutout, as he struck out 15 in six innings on the mound.
Offensively, CR North scored 12 runs on 13 hits, including an emphatic six-run sixth-inning that made it a 12-run game.
Key Players: CRN- Noah Furman (2-for-5, double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Anthony Fedejko (2-for-4, 2 runs), Zack Ruple (2-for-3, double 2 RBIs), Ben Hinderberger (WP, 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 15 K)
Key Inning: Top of the 2nd - Jude Hamilton led off with a single, Colin Goldman walked and Anthony Fedejko then singled to load the bases with nobody out. A bases-loaded walk to Zack Ruple scored one, Preston Martin hit a sac fly, and then Ryan Bukowski made it 3-0 with an RBI single.
CR North coach Matt Schram:
“Sophomore Ben Hinderberger threw a masterpiece today. His command was on point, his off speed and his efficiency was spot on. Each game he gets more and more comfortable.
“On offense, everyone in the lineup contributed which makes this a good team win.”

Souderton 6, North Penn 5
Souderton’s ability to find a way to win close games has been uncanny, and that trait continued on Monday.
The Indians rallied from 3-0 down with four in the sixth, broke open a tie game with two in the seventh and then ended the game throwing out the potential tying run at the plate after a wild pitch, edging North Penn 6-5.
Souderton has now played seven one-run games, and is 5-2 in those games.
Key Players: S - Evan Divens (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Gavin Wisnoski (2-for-4, double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Trent Lutz (5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K), Ethan Lesh (WP, 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K).
NP - Christian Barnes (2-for-3, triple).
Key Inning: Top of the 7th - Tied at 4, Charlie Hunsicker led the inning off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Stachelek. Gavin Wisnoski singled to put runners on first and third and then took second on defensive indifference. Evan Divens stayed hot with a two-run single to left field to give Souderton the 6-4 lead.
Souderton coach Mike Childs:
“Another crazy North Penn-Souderton matchup. After 20 years of these, I am surprised Kevin (Manero) or I do not have high blood pressure.
“It seemed early in the game they were going to counter Trent with smallball. I think I counted 
eight bunts. They did an excellent job of placing bunts to move runners and score runs.
“We have been showing a lot of confidence at the plate, and it showed in the first inning. Even though we didn’t score runs, our guys were hitting the ball hard and putting it in play.
“It took until the sixth inning, on a ball hit by Jasiah Stachelek to capitalize on a miscue by their outfielders. Then, the hit gates opened up with four straight hits, three being doubles. We added two more in the seventh and held on in the bottom to get the win.
“I was really proud of the team for not giving up when we went down early and showed grit to battle back.”

Pennridge 6, Central Bucks South 1
Pennridge maintained its one-game lead in the Colonial Division with its sixth straight victory, Monday by a 6-1 final score under the lights at Central Bucks South.
One consistency during this streak for the Rams has been pitching, and Monday was a special one for Rams’ starter Ryder Olson, as he and reliever TJ McGuigan combined on a no-hitter.
Olson pitched six shutout innings, not allowing a hit, just one unearned run, and four walks, while striking out 13. McGuigan retired the side in order in the seventh inning.
Key Players: P - Ryder Olson (WP, 6 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 13 K), Tim Croyle (double, 2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Top of the 3rd - Up 1-0, a walk and hit batter got the Rams rolling in the third. Tim Croyle roped a one-out double to drive in a run, a run scored on a passed ball, and TJ McGuigan made it 4-0 with an RBI single to right.
Pennridge coach Dan Long:
“Ryder had some of his best stuff on the mound tonight with six no-hit innings. A combined no hitter is no small feat.
“We had a lot of traffic on the bases early in the game offensively. Timmy Croyle and TJ McGuigan provided some big RBIs.
“It is always good to win Game 1 of a series.”

Central Bucks West 9, Central Bucks East 2
A seven-spot in the bottom of first inning set the tone early, as CB West drew first blood in this rivalry series, rolling to a 9-2 win over CB East at home on Monday.
The Bucks did all of their scoring in the first three innings, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. Leadoff hitter Jacob Greer had three hits and three RBIs in the first and third innings.
Key Players: CBW - Jacob Greer (3-for-4, double, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Jack Hogenauer (2-for-4, double, 1 RBI), Stephen Verdolini (WP, 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 13 K; 2-for-3, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Kellen O’Connor (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - Jacob Greer started the inning with a leadoff single, stole second, stole third and then scored on a RBI single by Kellen O’Connor. Chase Sabol and Noah Gerstein both drew bases loaded walks to drive in runs, Stephen Verdolini had a two-run single, and the 10th batter of the inning, Greer made it 7-0 with a two-run double.
Next up: Game 2 of the series is slated for Tuesday night at Haunesy Park (6:30 p.m.).

Plymouth Whitemarsh 13, Abington 2
A three-game winning streak has come at the right time for Plymouth Whitemarsh, which continued to turn it on with the bats, scoring 13 runs on 10 hits in five innings in its 13-2 win against Abington on Monday.
Over its last three games, PW has scored 37 runs.
Monday, the Colonials jumped all over Abington with two runs in each of the first three innings. Brody Stump had three hits, two home runs and three RBIs.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - PW took advantage of three walks to load the base with one out. Luke Fresta then gave his team the lead with a clutch single to center to score a pair.
PW coach Chris Manero:
“Today was really a day of big hits for us. Brody Stump's 2 HRs, Alex Kriebel's first varsity HR, and Mason Eagland's walk-off bases loaded double gave us runs in chunks, and that always helps.
“We did leave a lot of runners on base in the first four innings, and even though this one ended in five, we still want to see guys become tougher outs in those situations.”
–Props: “Bobby battled on the mound today. He didn't necessarily have his best stuff, but I think that sometimes we feel a little greedy because his best can be so good and when he doesn't have that, he still goes out and holds our leads like a professional. It was his fifth win of the season and that is still the most important stat.
“It's always good to start off the week with a win, but tomorrow is a new day for both teams so we will need to come ready.”

Upper Dublin 4, Hatboro-Horsham 1 (8 innings)
It took extra innings and in the eighth, Upper Dublin plated three runs and then got the final three outs in the bottom half of the inning to edge host Hatboro-Horsham by a 4-1 final.
Starters Aiden Stephenson and Shane Mills dominated for their respective teams, each allowing just a single run in the fourth inning and both going six strong innings.
Braeden Skahan’s two-run single in the eighth was the game-winner. He also was the winning pitcher, getting the final two outs of the seventh inning. Luke Caron closed it out with a 1-2-3 eighth, striking out a pair.

Key Inning: Top of the 8th - After a pair of groundouts to start the inning, two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for UD. Braeden Skahan singled to center field to drive in two, and after two more walks, another run crossed the plate for the Cardinals.
UD coach Ed Wall:
“Today was a frustrating game overall, but a huge win for us that we’re really proud of. Mills—made things difficult on us—but we also didn’t execute in some key situations when we had opportunities.
“I thought the story of the game was our sophomores. Aiden Stevenson gave us another quality start and kept us in it. Braeden Skahan came in during a tough spot in the bottom of the seventh, competed, and got us out of it, then followed that up with a big at-bat—staying with our two-strike approach and drove in the go-ahead runs.
“And then Luke Caron did a great job closing it out and securing the save.”

Wissahickon 11, Quakertown 4
These two teams were tied for the lead in the Liberty Division to start the week, and Round 1 went the way of Wissahickon, which went on the road, put up seven runs in the first inning and never looked back on the way to the 11-4 victory under the lights at Quakertown.
Second baseman and leadoff hitter Nate Hammond had a huge night for the Trojans, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Wissahickon added on with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings after the Panthers scored three times in the second. Overall, the Trojans had 11 runs on 10 hits, including four doubles.
Key Players: W - Nate Hammond (3-for-3, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Chase Neumeister (2-for-3, double, 3 RBIs), Ryan Kim (2 RBIs), Josh Stonesifer (2-for-4), Thomas Puerzer (WP, 5 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 1st - Nate Hammond singled to lead off the inning and scored on a one-out double by Josh Stonesifer. Ryan Kim added a two-run single, Chase Neumeister a two-run double, Hammond, in his second AB of the inning, had an RBI single, and the seventh run scored on an error.
Wissahickon coach Andy Noga:
“We were able to string together some quality at-bats in the first inning, and that really set the tone for us offensively. A lot of unselfish approaches led to some timely hits throughout the game. Josh Stonesifer and Giulio Carbo came up with big swings for us, which was great to see for their confidence at the plate.
“Thomas Puerzer worked through one tough inning and then really settled in and competed the rest of the way.
“It’s always big to get Game 1 of a series, but we know we’ll see another quality arm from Quakertown tomorrow and we need to be ready to go.”

New Hope-Solebury 6, Cheltenham 5
This one was back and forth throughout, as both team held leads early, Cheltenham rallied to tie the game in the seventh, only to see New Hope win it in the bottom of the seventh as Anthony Whalen singled home the game-winner in the Lions 6-5 in the first of three between the teams this week.
The middle of the New Hope lineup, Lucas Kevorkian and Whalen, drove in five of the six runs for the game.
Key Players: NHS-Anthony Whalen (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), Blake McCagg (2-for-2, 3 runs), Lucas Kevorkian (2 RBIs), Charlie Plebani (WP, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K).
C-Finn Kopp (2-for-3, 2 runs; 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), Eamon Ivory (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Wolf Brown (2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - After Cheltenham rallied to tie it at 5 in the top of the inning, Blake McCagg led off with a single to right, and then with one out, stole second base to get into scoring position. He scored on Whalen’s single to right on a 1-0 pitch to win the game.
New Hope coach Tony Vlahovic:
“The Cardiac Kids from New Hope were able to do it again in Game 1 versus Cheltenham. The comeback was aided by solid pitching from Anthony Whelan and Charlie Plebani.
“Overall, it was a very good high school game. Two dominant pitchers went head to head: Finn Kopp (Cheltenham) and Anthony Whelan (NHS) The strike zone was a shoe box at times for both teams, but a classic pitching performance by both.
“Our fielding was flawless today and between our leather and our pitchers is what gave us an opportunity to compete.
“Clutch hitting by Lucas Kevorkian and Anthony Whelan, who drove home Blake McCagg for the game-winner. Both Lucas and Anthony did a great job with situational hitting.”

Upper Moreland 8, Springfield Twp 1
A year ago, Upper Moreland lost to Springfield late in the year, as the Spartans brought home the Freedom Division title. Monday, the Golden Bears went into the first of three games this week unbeaten and with a commanding lead in the division. But they knew Springfield was standing in their way.
In Game 1 of a three-game set, UM rode the pitching of Nick Simons and was relentless on offense, scoring eight runs over the first five innings on an 11-hit day in a 8-1 road victory on Monday.
Key Players: UM - Nick Simons (WP, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 12 K), Josh Darsney (2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K), Zach O’Connor (3-for-3, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Chase Moore (2-for-5, 3 RBIs), Chase Rampulla (2-for-4), Mike Harter (3 RBIs), Gavin Shaffert (2-for-4, double).
Key Inning: Top of the 3rd - Zach O’Connor got things started with a leadoff double, a one-out error put runners on first and third, and then Chase Moore drove in a run with an RBI single. Later, a Mike Harter single scored two runs and made it a 3-0 game.
Upper Moreland coach Jim Fasano:
“A good team win against our nemesis, Springfield. Nick ‘Squirrel’ Simons was really good on the mound as he usually is, Chase Moore and Mike ‘Moist’ Harter drove in three runs each and we scored in five of seven innings in the 8-1 win.
“Squirrel had 12 Ks and three walks, threw 61 of his 98 pitches for strikes and was in command all five of his innings. The Holy Family commit showcased all four of his pitches, despite telling me Sunday night that he had six of them. I don’t even know how we’d call pitches five or six, but that’s another problem for another day.
“Moist Harter has some of the toughest at bats on our team and is universally respected by his teammates. His two-out bases loaded single drove in two after Chase Moore singled earlier in the frame to give us the 1-0 lead.
“Zach ‘Poo’ O’Connor continues to prove himself the number one O’Connor sibling, as he collected three hits and two RBIs. Poo was grinding a bit the last few weeks but it goes to show you’re always one small adjustment away from a bunch of hits.
“Another big one tomorrow against the team that beat us for the division title last year. We’ve earned the right to play meaningful games this late in the season and the kids are invested and excited.”

William Tennent 6, Lower Moreland 5
Grabbing the early lead was big for William Tennent on Monday, and especially so when host Lower Moreland rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
But the Panthers held on, as pitcher Matt Woehr got the popup to end the inning, and they ended up 6-5 winners in the first of three between the two teams this week.
Tennent scored one run in the first, three in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth, in all six runs on six hits, jumping ahead by a 6-0 count before LM’s rally in the fifth.
Relievers Lucas Mann and Zach Chubb pitched scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to close it out.
Key Players: WT-Cody Devor (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs), Matt Woehr (WP, 5 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 6 K), Zach Chubb (Save, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K).
LM-Bradley Horsnall (double, 3 RBIs), Jackson Jordan (2-for-4).
Key Inning: Top of the 2nd - A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Tennent with one out. Brandon Alburger scored one with a sac fly, a single by Cody Devor drove in another and an error scored a third run to make it a 4-0 game.
Tennent coach Lucas Denzi:
“It was a game we had circled on the calendar all year and we knew it was going to be a tough one as our seniors returned from their class trip last week.
“Putting some runs up early was big and gave our guys some confidence. Cody Devor had a great day at the plate, and we were able to have some productive at bats resulting in some runs.
“Heading into the remaining games, we need to limit the walks and clean up the defense. A lot of credit goes to our pitching staff, who were able to come in and calm things down to get the win.”
