Central Bucks West celebrated their senior day, where they honored four graduating seniors, with a 12-2 victory over the visitors from Archbishop Wood High School. The four seniors from Central Bucks West included Jill Boyle, Kat James, Marley Swain, and Hailey Worthington. All four seniors contributed in some way to help the Bucks team come away with an impressive 12-2 victory against a very good Archbishop Wood team. After a scoreless first inning where the West pitcher Kendall Kornuszko was able to strand two runners on base to get out of the inning. Wood got on the board first with a two run second inning to take a two-run lead into the home half of the second. The big hit in the inning was a run producing double off the bat of Lilliana Walters who scored Allison Siegfried for the first run of the game for Wood. Eventually Walters would come around and score the second run of the game on a fielder's choice RBI by Ellie Walicki. Central Bucks West came back to score three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead over Wood, and it was a lead that they would never give back. The big hits in the second for the Bucks were an RBI single for Evi Cherry and an RBI double off the bat of senior center fielder Jill Boyle. Kate Pisch also contributed a well-executed sacrifice bunt to move a runner up and keep the inning alive. When the second inning ended CB West had taken a 3-2 lead. West went on to duplicate those three runs in the next three innings. They score three more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to close out the scoring and give the Bucks a 12 -2 win in a five-inning shortened game. The three run third inning highlights included an RBI single off the bat of senior Hailey Worthington and an RBI double off the bat of catcher Evi Cherry. The three run fourth inning for the Bucks saw Marley Swain lead off the inning with a single and another run producing hit off the bat of Hailey Worthington, which was an RBI double, and finally the three run fifth inning highlights included a leadoff off home run by sophomore Grace Davis. The well hit ball to left field easily cleared the left field fence for the first home run of Davis's career. Senior first baseman Marley Swain also chipped in a double in the inning and senior Kat James ended the game with an RBI ground out that scored Isabella Fedor with the twelfth and final run for the Bucks. Pitcher Kendall Kornuszko went the distance for the Bucks picking up her fifth win of the season. On the day, Kornuszko threw five innings, gave up five hits, walked two batters, struck out one Wood hitter and only gave up two earned runs. The hitting leaders for the Bucks were Jill Boyle with one hit, two runs scored and an RBI, Makala Burkholder went one for three with two runs scored, Evi Cherry with two for three with a run scored and three RBIs, Addie McMackin was two for three on the day, senior Hailey Worthington was two for three with a double and three runs scored to go along with her two RBIS, and as previously mentioned Grace Davis had her first career home run which was a solo shot to left field. Mike Daher's comments, "It was a very good day for the West softball team and a great day for our four graduating seniors. I really felt like our team wanted to win for our seniors today and they went out a played a solid game against a good team in Archbishop Wood. Wood was 9-2 on the season so this was a good win for us today. Our four seniors Jill Boyle, Kat James, Marley Swain and Hailey Worthington have all set a very positive example for our younger players and have worked extremely hard at improving their own play. They are also all very positive leaders both on and off the field. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be able to coach the four seniors who have really been an important part of our program during their time at West. We still have a lot of the season left to play by when the four of them leave the West softball program, they will be missed."
