PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 7, UPPER MORELAND 1
This was team softball at its finest.
Three PW pitchers combined for the impressive win in Thursday’s SOL crossover contest, allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out nine and walking none.
“I continue to be so impressed with the team first mentality of this group of girls,” PW coach Mike Perez said. “We had a little hiccup early in the season (vs Methacton and Quakertown), had a sit down about playing for each other, and we have been playing great team softball the last four games.”
The Colonials scored all the runs they would need in a two-run first and then added two more in the second on their way to the non-league win.
Emily Dobrowolski’s 3-for-3 effort at the plate led the Colonials.

Key inning: Bottom of first – The Colonials set the tone for the win with a pair of runs in the first when Lizzy LaNoce hit a huge two-out, two-run single.

--The game: “Today, we knew Delaney would be tough. She’s been having a phenomenal season thus far, and we knew we were going to have to find a way to hit to win. I thought the girls had great plate discipline, battled in two-strike counts, and had productive at-bats up and down the lineup. No one likes to strike out, but only having five versus a pitcher of Delaney’s stature is very solid, only two of those coming after first inning. We did a very nice job adjusting our at-bats and it resulted in a great team-first offensive production.
“The second inning was one of my favorite innings of the season. Lori Flannery (2 hits) led off with a two-strike single to left field, Emily Dobrowolski (3-for-3 on the day) followed with a beautiful bunt. After a stolen base, Zoey Robinson took a pitch to the right side to score one run, and Joslyn Perez followed in the same way to score another. Perfect team softball to get on base, move runners, and unselfishly get them across the plate. Anna Powel also had two hits on the day - just a great total team effort.”
--Props: “Lizzy LaNoce had a big two-run single in the first to open up the scoring and a big defensive play at first base to keep a runner off the bases in the sixth.
“I feel like a broken record but want to once again shout out our pitching staff; who continues to produce whenever called upon. We have been off for a week - due to our Senior Trip - so I wasn’t sure what we’d get today. But Liv Brodzinski threw three shutout innings (2 hits, 4K, 0 BB), Emma Keely threw three innings (2 hits, 4K, 1 unearned run) and Teagan Stanley closed it out with a three-up, three-down seventh.”

The Falcons did what no one had done before them in 11 games – they handed the visiting Knights their first loss of the season.
The tone was set in the first inning when Jenna Thompson – with two strikes and two outs – hit a three-run home run. The Falcons tacked on a fourth run to up their lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
The Knights got two of those runs back in the top of the third when Alana Drummond delivered a two-run single, but that’s as close as they would get.
Pennsbury added a pair of runs in the fifth, thanks to a Jaylynn Rodweller’s two-run home run.
Freshman Paige Fidishun earned the complete game win.

Key inning: Bottom of first – With one out, Liv Czerniak reached first on an error, and then freshman pitcher Paige Fidishun drew a two-out walk, setting the stage for Jenna Thompson, who ripped a three-run home run to center field. Syd Kandrovi followed with a double to left field, and then it was sophomore Ryen Rittersback delivering an RBI double that put the Falcons on top 4-0. “That was her first varsity at bat this year because she had a broken finger, and she’s just coming back,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said of Rittersback. “She started for last year as a freshman.”
Pennsbury coach McSherry:
“It was our Jekyll and Hyde week (the Falcons fell to Council Rock South 11-0 on Tuesday). We played our best game of the season today. I think their confidence was down a little bit, and this is really big for their confidence because we know that Felicia Connolly is an all-state pitcher. We know that North Penn was undefeated, and they’re always in the running for a state crown.
“On top of that, we’ve gotten beaten up in a couple of games, and that’s kind of uncharacteristic. Hopefully, we can turn it around. Maybe this goes a long way. I hope it does.”
--Getting an early lead: “The cool thing was – with two outs, Paige Fidishun was hitting in front of Jenna Thompson, and she worked a walk. She fouled off some tough pitches, and she worked a walk, and then JT hit a three-run homer.”
--A pair of double plays: “In the first inning, they had the bases loaded with one out, and their girl bounced one back to Paige (Fidishun). She threw home for one out, and our catcher threw to first for a double play.
“In the seventh inning, Jenna Thompson made a diving catch in center field coming in on the ball for the first out. Then they got a single, and we turned a six-four-three double play (short to second to first), which you don’t see very often in high school ball.”
North Penn coach Rick Torresani:
“It’s hard to explain how we played. The girls were into it, they played hard, they never gave up, but we left 14 girls on base, and you can’t do that. As everybody knows – when you are a good team and doing well, that’s when you’re getting timely hitting, and that’s something we didn’t do today.
“Felicia (Connolly) pitched a really good game. It was just a couple of pitches – they hit two home runs, but the pitch call by me on both of them just wasn’t what I should have called. I didn’t mix up speeds enough for her.”
--The first loss: “It all comes down to maybe we were 11-0 and feeling it. A loss like this to a Pennsbury team at Pennsbury – we just have to refocus and see what we did wrong and where we need to help the girls get better. You go 11-0 in high school, and you start feeling your oats and nobody can beat you. It was a wake-up call for us. This loss doesn’t affect our league standings, and it shouldn’t affect us too much in the district. This is a good team, and they’ll fight back and they’ll work really hard and come back against Methacton.”

NESHAMINY 7, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 5
The Redskins found themselves on the short end of a 4-1 score heading into the sixth inning when they put six runs on the board, benefitting from three walks and a hit batter as well three hits. Ashley Entenman’s two-run double was the big blow of the inning.
The Titans didn’t go down quietly. In the top of the seventh, Arianna Flores and Keira Im hit back-to-back singles to open the inning, and Maddie Motley’s RBI double made it a 7-5 game with a pair of runners in scoring position.
Redskin hurler Addie Pennisi worked her way out the jam without further damage, coaxing a popup to second for the inning’s first out. After Hannah McClintock drew a walk to load the bases, Pennisi came up with a pair of huge strikeouts to slam the door on the Titans’ rally.
Pennisi, who threw two innings in relief, earned the win.
For the Titans, who held the advantage in hits, Keira Im was 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first inning. Arianna Flores got a pair of hits.

Key inning: Bottom of sixth – Trailing 4-1, the Redskins erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to go on top 7-4. Ellie Miller and Addie Pennisi led off the inning with back-to-back singles. A walk to Jill Rickards loaded the bases. Kendall McCafferty worked a full-count walk that forced home a run, and with one out, Zahmira Coppola-Miller was hit by a pitch to bring home another run. A walk to Keira Secoda brought home the tying run, and a pair of runs scored when Ashley Entenman grounded a double to right field. Maddie Jacoby’s sacrifice bunt brought home the sixth run of the inning.

SOUDERTON 11, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
Souderton faced a pair of teams that – at the start of the week – were in the top five of the District 1 6A rankings. Central Bucks South has fallen to 10 after back-to-back losses to Souderton and then on Thursday to Neshaminy. Council Rock North was undefeated entering Thursday’s SOL crossover game. Souderton took care of that with a dominant effort at the plate and in the circle.
In the circle, the Indians received brilliant outings from freshman Katie Straub and sophomore Madi Mott. Straub – who fanned 10 - allowed just two hits in six strong innings while Mott struck out a pair in a one-two-three seventh
Rock North put a run on the board in the first when Kayla Ripper, who walked to lead off the game, scored on a passed ball. The rest of the game belonged to the visiting Indians, who took a 3-1 lead in the second and never looked back.
For good measure, Souderton – which pounded out 13 hits - scored eight unanswered runs over the final three innings on its way to the big win.
Kathryn Jones led Souderton’s hit parade with a perfect 3-for-3 effort. Adding two hits each were Emma Lewis, Skyler Byrnes, Kiera Fadden, Emma Messmer and Ava Detwiler.

“The girls came focused to play today. We didn't have a speaker on the bus, and we actually talked the entire time. We had a lot of laughs, and the girls were very loose. It's great to win games, but this is what really matters to me. I want to see our girls have a fun experience. With that said, the girls won't buy into this, and the speaker will be on the bus for our next away game."
--Senior shine: : “Ava Detwiler, Skyler Byrnes, and Kathryn Jones, our three starting seniors, did more than their share today to help us compete. They combined for 7 hits, 4 RBI, and 6 runs. They are some of our hardest workers on the team, and it is great to see them be successful.”
--Double Threat:““Our pitching has been the anchor of the team this year. Katie Straub and Madi Mott have been stellar for us. These two girls, whether they start or finish the game, always get the job done. Today, Katie started for us and went six innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 10. Madi closed out the game by striking out the side. They are both competitors, but more importantly, they take joy in watching each other succeed. I am beyond proud of them."

Taylor Toutkoushian accomplished a feat most baseball and softball players never do - hitting for the cycle while driving in four runs to help lead the Rams to their first win of the season.
The sophomore standout lined an RBI triple to center field in her first at bat in the first inning, and in the second inning, she picked up a single. She hit an RBI double to center in the third inning (giving the Rams a 10-3 lead), and Toutkoushian capped a perfect day at the plate with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Her round tripper gave the Rams a 12-4 lead.
Payton Keyser, Jules Pliszka and Jadyn Gulbinski each contributed a pair of hits to Pennridge’s 14-hit attack.
For the Owls, Sydney Daut and Dana Oliverio each had a pair of hits.

After a groundout for the inning’s second out, Emersyn Lesher lined an RBI single to center. Taylor Toutkoushian followed with a single, and the bases were loaded after Henrich drew a walk. Two runs scored on Jules Pliszka’s line drive single to center, and two more scored on Jadyn Gulbinski’s single that put the Rams on top 8-3.

“We have been working hard to get the first win of the season, and it came today. I’m proud of this team’s resilience and continuing to refine their game daily. Hoping to create some momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.”

The Ghosts opened up a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third and that turned out to be enough for Danica Santiago, who notched the complete game win in the circle. Santiago allowed six hits and just one earned run in a solid outing.
Lower Moreland plated a single run in the fifth on Molly Weber’s RBI single, and they added a second run in the seventh – also on an RBI single by Weber.

Sydney Hahn turned in a strong outing in the circle, allowing just four hits and two runs – both unearned – in the complete game win.
The Patriots opened up a 1-0 lead in the second and added a pair in the fifth before the Tigers got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, thanks to Melanie Mahler’s two-run single.

Ava Jones smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and she was just getting started. She finished the game with six RBIs and – for good measure – tossed a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
Cadence Jozefowski’s 3-for-4 day at the plate led the Panthers’ offense. Kayla Scheibenhofer, and Ellie Hilton both had a pair of hits.
Tennent had some big hitters of its own with five of its seven hits for extra bases.

The Golden Hawks notched their second shutout in as many games this week, outscoring their opponents by a combined 21-0 score in those two games. Natalie Neubauer was once again in the circle to earn the win in the abbreviated contest, scattering five hits.
A three-run first set the tone, and a six-run third put the game out of reach.
Mickey DeYoung led the Hawks’ offensive charge, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

--DeYoung delivers: “Junior Mickey DeYoung turned in a standout performance and was a major catalyst for our offense today. She went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while driving in four runs, consistently delivering in key situations. Mickey’s approach has been steady and disciplined, and it’s been rewarding to see her patience and persistence pay off as she steps into a larger role for us. She has waited her turn and continues to make the most of every opportunity. Defensively, she has been just as reliable, playing error-free softball all season. When Mickey is putting together quality at-bats the way she did today, she becomes a very dangerous hitter, and we have full confidence in her ability to continue progressing and contributing at a high level.”
--Neubauer silences Bucks: “In the circle, Natalie Neubauer delivered another exceptional outing. She threw a five-hit shutout while needing just 48 pitches, 35 of which were strikes, showcasing outstanding efficiency and command. Natalie continues to demonstrate a strong competitive mindset, trusting both the pitch calling and the defense behind her. Her consistency and composure have made her a dependable presence for us, and performances like today’s highlight just how effective she can be when she’s attacking the zone.
--Bats are booming: “Offensively, Ashlyn Curtier and Paige Brady each had strong days at the plate, both going 2-for-3. Paige contributed an RBI, while Ashlyn crossed the plate twice, helping to generate consistent offensive pressure. Both players have been swinging the bat well all season, and their ability to make solid contact makes them a threat every time they step into the batter’s box.
“Freshman Avery Ochs continues to impress with her all-around play. She collected two more hits, including a double, and made a key defensive play by throwing out a runner attempting to steal second base in the fifth inning. Avery’s poise and production have been remarkable, and she continues to show maturity beyond her years as she contributes in multiple facets of the game.
“Jenna Pesapane came through with a big two-run single in the third inning to extend our lead to 9-0, providing a key moment that helped put the game out of reach. Molly Gabriele added to the effort by going 1-for-2 and scoring a run, while Sophia Salamon contributed with a hit, two runs scored, and an RBI. All three of our captains—Jenna, Molly, and Sophia—played an important role in today’s performance, leading both by example and with their production on the field.”

UD’s senior ace turned in a dazzling performance, tossing a six-inning no-hitter while striking out 14 and walking none. She retired 10 in a row to open the game before the Spartans got a one-out
baserunner as the result of a UD miscue. She struck out the next two batters she faced to end the inning and retired eight in a row to close out the game.
Garrison faced just 18 batters, striking out 14 of them. One error separated her from a perfect game.
The Cardinals got all the runs Garrison would need in a three-run first.
Garrison helped her own cause at the plate with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Sophia Vitelli had three hits and two RBIs, Kate Brannigan had three RBIs and Paige McKenna drove in a pair of runs.

--Strike Out the Stigma: Thursday’s game was the 4th annual STRIKE OUT the STIGMA against mental health. The event, along with several fundraisers leading up to it, raised $2,300.00 that will be donated to ABBEY'S BAKERY, a local non-profit that helps raise awareness.
“A big SHOUT-OUT for Springfield's team for embracing the day and wearing green and purple ribbons in support of the cause,” UD coach Heather Boyer said.
