SOL Freedom Division
Upper Moreland 6, Cheltenham 4
A five-run first inning set the tone, and Upper Moreland’s pitchers did the job the rest of the way, as the unbeaten Golden Bears held off pesky Cheltenham for the second day in a row on Tuesday afternoon.
Shortstop Chase Moore led a seven-hit offensive attack for the Bears with two hits and two RBIs. Luke Sword came out of the bullpen in relief of Cannon Campbell to pick up a big three-inning save.
“Another hard-fought win against a quality opponent in Cheltenham,” said UM coach Jim Fasano. “They’re a tough, talented team who doesn’t quit. And we had to earn everything today against another quality pitcher in Eamon Ivory.”

Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - The first six batters reached base as UM plated five runs. Chase Moore had an RBI single, Lucas Zipper an RBI double, Gavin Shaffert an RBI single, and Josh Darsney a sacrifice fly.
Upper Moreland coach Jim Fasano:
“We scored five in the first, and it felt like we may cruise, but after that Eamon settled in and we couldn’t get anything going until the sixth, when we added an important insurance run.
“These games are good for us, because to get where we want to be we are going to have to win tightly contested ballgames where defense and execution matter.”
–Props: Defensively, we had some outstanding plays. Gavin Shaffert and Jimmy Murray cut down runners at the plate, and Jackson Townsend made an incredible leaping catch in center field in the seventh.
“Chase Moore continues to right the ship offensively with two big hits and two RBIs. He had been scuffling a bit earlier in the year coming off basketball season, but eventually the cream always rises to the top.
“A tremendous performance by Luke Sword, coming into the game in a tough situation with runners on first and third and nobody out in the fifth. Luke got the last nine outs of the game and gave up exactly zero hits in that time.
“We are deep and talented, we have a chance to be special, but nothing’s going to be given to us. Another huge game on Thursday where we need to continue to have good at bats and pound the zone on the mound. I expect another dogfight with a similarly deep and talented Cheltenham team.”
Next up: The two teams will wrap up their series on Thursday, as UM goes for the sweep at Cheltenham.

Springfield Twp 9, Lower Moreland 0
A pair of early runs held up, and Springfield tacked out a bunch more the rest of the way and let pitcher Matt Sokel do the rest on the way to its second straight big win over Lower Moreland, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Sokel went the distance, throwing only 79 pitches in a three-hit, one-walk masterpiece over seven innings.
Key Players: S-Matt Sokel (WP, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K; double, 2 runs scored), Mike Capoferri (2-for-4, double, triple, 2 runs), Brockmeyer (2 RBIs)

Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - Springfield did all the damage it needed in the first courtesy of a three-error first inning for LM. Mike Capoferri reached on an error and later came around to score on an error. Nathan Brockmeyer drove the other run on an error.
Springfield coach Rob Bond:
“Matt Sokel pitched outstanding today. He was in command the entire game. Offensively, we took a little while to get going but our senior captain, Michael Capoferri, went 2-for-4 with a double and triple. Sophomores Rocco Lugrine and Nathan Brockmeyer really stepped up at the plate.
“We are starting to get our balance back after a tough series against Cheltenham. It’s good to see the boys playing with confidence.”

New Hope-Solebury 8, William Tennent 5
Things didn’t look good for New Hope entering the seventh inning, as it trailed visiting William Tennent by three runs.
But starting with a Charlie Plebani home run and ending with a three-run homer by Lucas Kevorkian, the Lions came all the way back for the 8-5 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams combined for 13 runs on 23 hits. New Hope had four extra base hits and four hitters had multiple hits.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - Trailing 5-2, Charlie Plebani hit a solo home run to start the inning. After an error and a walk, JT Bach tied the game with a two-run single, and two batters later with two outs, Lucas Kevorkian belted a three-run home run to left to end the game.
New Hope coach Tony Vlahovic:
“The Cardiac Kids of New Hope did it two days in a row. We were sleepwalking without gloves to start the game. William Tennent played a solid game behind (Aiden) Wilkowski, their starter. We hit the ball and left at least 10 runners on base.
“Our hitters hit the ball right at people, and William Tennent made the plays. William Tennent is a much better team than their record. I was impressed with our overall approach at the plate, and it finally paid off in the seventh. Charlie Plebani, Nick Correa, Nathan Plebani and Joe Rickard all hit the ball well. Charlie Plebani hit his first home run.
“The last inning heroics from Lucas ‘Bam Bam’ Kevorkian hit the ball hard three times to the fence, the last time in the seventh with two runners on was the game winner. Definitely aged our coaching staff.”
“Pitching was solid from Charlie “Don't call me Charles" Plebani, (who) threw four solid innings. Blake McCagg picked up the win with two solid innings.”

Abington 9, Wissahickon 7
The key for Abington these past two days has been scoring runs, and Tuesday, for the second straight game, the Galloping Ghosts put up a nine-spot and it was good enough to notch another win against Wissahickon, this time by a 9-7 final score.
Abington led 4-2 going into the fifth, saw Wissahickon rally with three to take a 6-4 lead, and then in the top of the sixth, the Ghosts put up five runs in the big inning that eventually decided the outcome.
The teams combined for 16 runs on 18 hits. Phin Capone had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.
Key Players: A-Phin Capone (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Joe Loughney (2-for-4, 3 runs), Eric Engler (2-for-4), Jaiden Trifun (2 RBIs);

Key Inning: Top of the 6th - George Hooven tied the game with a RBI single, Phin Capone had the big hit of the inning, a three-run, bases loaded triple with two outs, and he later scored himself on a wild pitch.
Abington coach George Kotsopoolos:
“Outstanding game by both teams. Back and forth battle, key hit by Phin Capone - a two out bases loaded triple to put us up 9-5 in the top of the sixth.
“Held on for a 9-7 win. Nice team win.”

Quakertown 6, Hatboro-Horsham 0
Four early runs and then solid pitching from Colin Tenney held up as Quakertown bounced back from a tough loss on Monday to even the series with Hatboro-Horsham by a 6-0 score on Tuesday night.
Tenney dominated, allowing just one hit and one walk before leaving the game with two-outs in the seventh after eclipsing the 100-pitch count.
Key Players: Q-Colin Tenney (WP, 6 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K), Peyton Trappler (2-for-2), Logan Niewoehner (2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - The first five batters reached base, including four singles and a walk, as Quakertown plated four runs. Carter Tucholski had an RBI single, William Bowen walked with the bases loaded, Brady Martin had an RBI single, and Logan Niewoehner added a sac fly to make it 4-0.
Quakertown coach Jon Pallone:
“We got off to a good start tonight and Colin Tenney did a great job on the mound attacking the strike zone.
“I’m really impressed with how aggressive our guys were on the base paths, getting great jumps and being fearless. (H-H’s) catcher, Ken Lutz, is a tremendous player not only at the plate, but behind the dish too. Peyton Trappler got his bat going tonight.
“Hatboro is a good team that plays the game the right way. Tonight was definitely a quality win for us.”

Souderton 2, Central Bucks East 0
Close, low-scoring pitchers’ duels aren’t anything new for Souderton, and Tuesday night was another one, as the Indians rode the pitching of Johnny Byrwa to post the 2-0 shutout of CB East.
Souderton’s three league wins are by scores of 1-0, 3-2 and now 2-0.
Byrwa allowed just two hits and struck out 15 in 6 2/3 innings before being pulled after 106 pitches in the seventh.
Key Players: Johnny Byrwa (WP, 6 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 15 K), Ethan Lesh (Save, 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB); Trent Lutz (1 RBI)
Souderton coach Mike Childs:
“Our pitching has been doing a phenomenal job for us this season, and tonight was no different. John Byrwa was dominant again, throwing shutout baseball with 15 Ks. He is a very composed, no-nonsense player that goes out and gets it done every time he has stepped on the mound for us this year.
“Our offense didn’t give him a lot of support with only four hits, but it was just enough runs to win and we will take it.”
-Props: “Evan Divens added our second run in the sixth with his bat and base running abilities. He is a complete overall player, and it showed tonight, offensively and defensively. He is setting a great example for the young guys of how to play controlled, aggressive baseball.”

North Penn 7, Central Bucks South 2
After a difficult loss to CB South on Monday, North Penn fell behind early Tuesday, but from that point, the Knights settled in with solid pitching and timely offense in the third and fourth 
inning to even the season series with the Titans with a 7-2 win.
A hit batter and pair of errors led to CB South’s two runs in the first, but pitcher Isaac Whaley bounced back and ended up going the distance for the Knights, allowing just those two unearned runs.
Offensively, North Penn scored three in the third and fourth in the fourth, including a grand slam by Matt Pownall in the fourth.
Key Players: NP-Isaac Whaley (WP, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), Matt Pownall (HR, 4 RBIs), Logan Waynick (2-for-3, double), Bud Murphy (2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 3rd - Mason DiLorenzo led off with a single for North Penn, advanced two bases on an error, and scored on a RBI single by Danny Cho. Later in the inning, Bud Murphy gave his team the lead with a two-RBI single to left.
North Penn coach Kevin Manero:
“Isaac Whaley gave us a big start today. I don’t think he had his best stuff, but he got stronger as the game went on. It’s great to see a sophomore be so big in a key bounce-back game.”
–Props: “Matty Pownall’s grand slam was obviously a big jolt for us. We have a bunch of first- year varsity starters out there, and for an experienced guy like him to come up in the clutch like that is huge in taking the pressure off the younger guys.”
Next up: The rubber match of the three-game series is Thursday night, as North Penn plays at CB South.

Pennridge 5, Central Bucks West 1
After a 10-run loss to CB West 24 hours earlier, Pennridge needed a big effort to even the series on Tuesday and got just that from freshman Oliver Olson.
The Rams then ended a 12-inning scoreless streak against the Bucks with a five-run sixth inning to post the 5-1 victory.
Olson allowed just one hit and one earned run over six innings to pick up the win. He scattered five walks and struck out eight, before giving way to Anthony Cox, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Key Players: Oliver Olson (WP, 6 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 8 K), Brayden Robinson (double, 3 RBIs); CBW-Jacob Greer (HR, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 6th - Trailing by one, Tommy Ginnetti led off the sixth with a single, followed by a Noah Keating walk, and a single by Tim Croyle to load the bases with nobody out. A bases loaded walk to TJ McGuigan tied the game, another walk to Elijah Los made it 2-1, and Brayden Robinson emptied the bases with a double to center field.
Pennridge coach Dan Long:
“Today was a great response from yesterday’s game. Putting together a big inning offensively late in the game helped guide us to a win.
“Oliver Olson was outstanding once again for us today. He really gave us a chance to win.”
Next up: Pennridge will host CB West on Thursday in the rubber match of the three-game series.

Bensalem 16, Harry S Truman 13
Coming off a one-run loss to Truman on Monday, Bensalem looked to even the score and did so in an unconventional way, as the Owls outslugged the Tigers 16-13 in a game that saw the teams combine for 29 runs on 28 hits - eight extra base hits - 20 walks and four errors.
It was a game that saw the Owls up 10-5 after two innings, trail 13-11 after four innings, before settling down to outscore the Tigers 5-0 over the final three frames to come away with the victory.
Key Players: B-Evan Jaffee (WP, 2 2/3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K; 2-for-4, 3 RBIs), Lukas Wilson (3-for-5, double, 1 RBI), Joe Dougherty (3-for-4, 1 RBI), Peter Pasquarella (2-for-5, triple, 2 runs), Logan Savage (triple, 2 RBIs, 3 runs, 3 BB), Cole Hasson (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI, 3 runs), Tommy Jackson (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Danny Bevans (2 RBIs);

“It was a back-and-forth game against a tough team in Truman. We had a lot of big hits in key situations.
“Lucas Wilson, Joe Dougherty, Cole Hasson and Logan Savage had multiple hits that drove in runs. Evan Jaffee had one of those big hits that drove in two late in the game. And Jaffee pitched two strong innings for us and got the win.”

Neshaminy 11, Council Rock North 0 (5 innings)
After a tough, one-run loss to CR North on Monday, Neshaminy bounced back in a resounding way, with a dominant effort on the mound from Matt Gryn, and 11 runs on 12 hits in a 
mercy-rule shortened 11-0 blitz of the host Indians on Tuesday.
Gryn allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out eight over five innings. He also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate.
In all, offensively, Neshaminy pounded 12 singles, including three by third baseman Brandon Lall, who reached base in all four of his plate appearances.
Key Players: N-Matt Gryn (WP, 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K; 2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Brandon Lall (3-for-3, 3 runs), Sam Hitchen (2-for-3, 4 HRs), Dylan Cloud (2-for-3, 3 RBIs).
Key Inning: Top of the 3rd - Up 1-0, Neshaminy extended its lead with four more runs. Chase Bonner and Brandon Lall led off with back-to-back singles, Bonner scored on a wild pitch and
Lall on a sac fly by Sam Hitchen. Matt Gryn followed with a RBI single and Dylan Cloud made it 5-0 with a two-out RBI single later in the inning.
Neshaminy coach Dan Toner:
“We continued our strong offensive start to the SOL season.
“The difference in today’s game was Matt Gryn was phenomenal on the mound. He was throwing every pitch in his arsenal for strikes. North was really swinging the bat yesterday - it was impressive to see him take control.
“Offensively, we have been locked in. We have been finding success up and down the lineup. Brandon Lall was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. The back end of the lineup, consisting of Sam Hitchen, Matt Gryn and Dylan Cloud all had multi-hit and multi-RBI days.”
Next up: The two teams battle for the deciding game in the series on Thursday as CR North plays at Neshaminy in Game 3.

Pennsbury 7, Council Rock South 7 (suspended after 9 innings, darkness)
This one went extra innings and was halted after nine because of darkness with the score tied at 7. It will resume either Wednesday or before Thursday’s Game 3 between the two teams.
CR South led 5-3 going into the sixth, only to see Pennsbury plate four to take a 7-5 advantage. The Golden Hawks rallied to tie it in the bottom of the sixth, however. The Falcons had the potential go-ahead run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn’t get the run across.
Danny Seidler had a triple and 2 RBIs for Pennsbury, while Jimmy Clark, Owen McLean and Reid Curtier had two hits each for CR South.
