Central Bucks West suffered their first loss of the young season on the road at Spring-Ford High School by a score of 4 to 1. For the Bucks, it was the bottom of the second inning that proved to be difference in the game. In that inning Spring-Ford plated all four of their runs on the day on three walks and three bases-on-balls against West pitcher Kendall Kornuszko. Outside of that inning, Kornuszko showed excellent command of her pitches and kept the Rams off of the board for the rest of the game. On the day, CB West out hit Spring-Ford but failed to come through with a big hit when West needed it most. West left the bases loaded without scoring a run in the first, fourth and fifth innings, and stranded eleven runners in all during the game. The only run scored by the Bucks on the afternoon came off the bat of leadoff hitter Jill Boyle who connected on a third inning first pitch fastball that easily cleared the fence in dead center field. It was Boyle's first home run of her career and a memorable one for the Messiah University bound senior outfielder. Marley Swain was again highly productive at the plate going three for three and collecting her second three hit game in the first two games of the season. Three other West players would chip in hits on the day, they were Hailey Worthington with a double to center field in the top of the fourth inning, along with Kat James and Addie McMackin who both had line drive singles on the day. On the day, junior pitcher Kornuszko faced twenty-eight Spring-Ford batters, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out two batters in a strong effort in the circle. The defensive gem of the day came in the bottom of the fourth inning when right fielder Taylor Sheplock made an outstanding running catch with her back to the infield to take an extra base hit away from the Spring-Ford leadoff hitter. The Bucks team is one and one on the season and will travel to North Penn for their next game of the season.
