The Central Bucks West softball team saw their season get off to an impressive start with a 14-0 win over the visiting Trojans from Wissahickon High School. After an impressive first inning by junior pitcher Kendall Kornuszko who struck out two in the top of the first and did not allow a run, the Bucks would plate four runs on their own in their half of the inning. The big hit in the inning was a two out two run single off the bat of Makala Burkholder driving in the third and fourth runs of the inning. After the first inning the Bucks were up 4-0. Central Bucks West would go on to score four more runs in the second, three in the third and finally three more runs in their final at bat, which was the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bucks collected fourteen hits on the day and scored fourteen runs. One of the big hitters on the day was freshman designated hitter Makala Burkholder, who was making her debut for the Bucks team. Makala collected four hits on the day in four at bats and drove in five runs. It was also a very productive day for returning all SOL first team selection at first base Marley Swain who had three hits and scored three runs for West. Sophomore catcher Sam Hooven had a single and a double in four at bats and drove in a total of four runs. It was also a good day at the plate for senior center fielder and leadoff hitter Jill Boyle who was on base three out of four times with a double, a single, and she was hit by a pitch. Boyle also stole a base and scored three runs for the Bucks. Sophomores Hailey Sigler and Evi Cherry also chipped in hits for the Bucks. It was highly productive day for the top of the Bucks lineup, the first five hitters, Jill Boyle, senior shortstop Kat James, Evi Cherry, Marley Swain and Sam Hooven collected eight hits in all and scored thirteen of the team's fourteen runs on the day. Junior pitcher Kendall Kornuszko pitched a very productive four innings for the Bucks allowing only three hits, while striking out five batters and not allowing a single walk. Kornuszko picked up her first win of the young season for West. Senior pitcher Hailey Worthington needed only seven pitches to get through the last three batters for the Trojans. She was able to retire the Trojans in order with three successive ground outs back to the pitcher.
