COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH & PENNRIDGE ADVANCE TO 2026 PIAA AAA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
By Glenn Kaiser
Fort Washington, PA-Two SOL teams, Council Rock South and Pennridge survived a grueling Saturday in the 2026 District One Team Championships at Upper Dublin HS to advance into the 2026 PIAA Class AAA Team Wrestling Championships bracket. It will be an even tougher road to the Summit Arena in Johnstown, PA, to reach the Elite 8 and an opportunity to place in the top four in the state. With the new PIAA format for the team championships, which frankly needs to go back to the original design, teams must wrestle one or two duals, locally or on the road, this Tuesday Feb. 3, 2026, before making accommodations in Johnstown Feb. 6 & 7, 2026.
Council Rock South cruised, as expected, in both quarterfinal and semifinal matches respectively, to reach
the finals against Boyertown. The Golden Hawks overwhelmed Quakertown 57-12, winning 11 matches, and then rolled over Garnet Valley 42-21 on the strength of four pinfalls during their eight victories in the dual. However, Boyertown edged CR South in the finals 33-31. Boyertown captured seven individual bouts to South’s six wins. Bonus points were abounding, as only one match was decided by decision. Boyertown was the team with that win and a major decision that elevated them to the D1 crown. Nonetheless, the runner-up spot still has them looking good moving forward. It should be noted that CRS has won a record seven D1 Team titles but are 1-4 all-time against Boyertown in the final. The Bears have won six titles now.
The Golden Hawks recorded an impressive five tech falls and pinfall in the finals, but it wasn’t enough. The Golden Hawks will wrestle an improved Saint Joseph’s Prep team that captured the District 12 title over in the City of Brotherly Love Tuesday night at Prep. South should have enough star-power to propel them to Johnstown to take on, most likely, Lehigh Valley’s Nazareth, the #1-ranked AAA team in Pennsylvania, who were the D11 champs.
Pennridge will have a tougher road, as they will travel up the 611 to grapple Central Dauphin (D3-3rd place
team) at Bethlehem Freedom HS. Should they win, they will have to tangle with Nazareth immediately following the victory. Pennridge was impressive at the D1 Duals, as they defeated the Knights of North Penn 42-18 in the quarters as expected. In the semis, versus Boyertown, they kept it close before Boyertown ran off four in a row from 152 to 189-pounds securing the victory, 37-16.
The Rams rebounded down in the consolation bracket with a consi semifinal victory over neighboring rival Quakertown 37-27. They kept it going in the consi-finals with a solid win over Owen J Roberts 39-21 to place third overall.
Some notable individual performances in these D1 Duals include North Penn’s 133-pounder Shane Young, who improved to 33-4 with victories over some of D1’s best. He downed Pennridge’s Kevin McFadden 4-3 and Owen J Roberts’ Carter Soto 7-6 to make his case as the #1 wrestler at 133 here in the Southeast Region. Pennridge super-frosh Matthew Coffin impressed at 127, upping his record to 29-5 with a huge pinfall over Boyertown’s Boden Waite, winning all five of his D1 dual matches. Others going 5-0 through-out the tourney were Coffin’s teammates. Big man Sawyer Erimigiotti upped his record to 30-3 and Ram Quinn McBride remains solid at 145-pounds at 26-5.
Other wrestlers in these duals that were perfect, going 4-0, included Quakertown’s Logan Pfistner (160) 28-5 and David Clayton (189) 29-6. Golden Hawk Pat Woloshyn has dropped to 139-pounds it appears, and is 26-8 after four wins here. Other CR South wrestlers undefeated in the duals at 4-0 where light-weights Quinn Bagnell (28-4), another super-frosh at 107, John Segata (32-5) down at 114 and freshman phenom Logan Worth (34-7) up at 121. South’s big, Matthew Scott keeps rolling at 285lbs. with a solid 35-4 record.
Wrestlers gain invaluable experience wrestling in the team championships, as they get high level matches, which gives them an advantage come the individual postseason, which is just around the corner.
