HATFIELD — The Dunn brothers combined to bring Central Bucks South a victory on Wednesday night at Hatfield Ice.
It was the pass from senior Parker Dunn to sophomore Kobe Dunn that recorded the winning goal in the Titans’ 3-2 win over Central Bucks East. It broke a 2-2 tie with less than six minutes left in the third period.
“My brother actually passed it to me,” said Kobe. “It was a great moment.
“We were behind the net, and he passed it through a defender’s legs. I turned around, a wrap-around, and tucked it in the five-hole (between the goalie’s legs as he tried to stop the puck).
“It’s just a magic moment between family members.”
This was all said outside the South locker room with Kobe holding what appears to be a Roman legionnaire’s helmet.
What exactly is the significance of that helmet?
“It signifies the game winner and MVP of the game,” Kobe said. “It’s an honor to have it.”
The brothers were born in Winnipeg, Canada, and relocated to the CB South district when their father’s employment moved the family there. And, as Canadians, they have played hockey their whole lives.
“My whole life,” Kobe answered when asked if he had played much hockey with his brother. “I was born in Canada, played as I was growing up and for as long as I can remember.”
And Parker, your brother?
“He’s actually very skilled at making plays like that,” Kobe said about his brother’s passing ability. “I’m very proud because he used to not be able to do that.”
And coach Josh Sklar, what about the Dunn brother?
“Very hard work,” Sklar said. “They, like all brothers, have their ups and downs.
“Practices on Mondays sometimes they’re going at it, but they’re always ready to do the work and ready to play the game.”
What did you tell your players you wanted them to do in the third period?
“I wanted them to be a little more physical,” Sklar said. “They have a good goalie over there so just be more physical.
“Put traffic in front of their goalie when you’re getting shots. You can’t beat him straight up. It worked because there was a lot of traffic and a lot of bodies moving around.”
CB East coach Tom Mitchell has a lot of respect for South.
“They have a good team,” Mitchell said. “It’s fun to play against them.
“They roll those two top lines out and they move the puck really well. Obviously, they took advantage of us in the offensive zone. I think CJ (Young), our goalie, bailed us out for a good part of the game and then they got one to squeak through there at the end.”
As the score would indicate, it was a close game throughout. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie before South took a 2-1 lead after two stanzas.
East tied it up at 2-2 early in the third period. But then, with 11:11 elapsed in the final period, the Dunn brothers took over.
The Patriots actually took the lead in the opening period on a goal by Colton Dreyfus at the 6:28 mark. The Titans came back with 1:41 left in the period to tie the game on Dom Gibson’s goal.
Ryan Frey gave South a 2-1 lead with seven minutes gone in the second period off an assist from Dom DiMarino. It was a lead which carried into the third.
In that third period, East tied the score on Dreyfus’ second goal of the game. Then came the Kobe Dunn goal to clinch the win for the Titans.
