FAST START FOR SOL WRESTLERS: 2025-26 Season Underway

It’s been a fast start to the 2025-26 wrestling season for SOL teams and individual wrestlers. So fast, I have been behind in recapping and providing preseason expectations for our local Suburban One League wrestling teams and individual wrestlers. So here is a summary of what has occurred so far, along with what to expect for your SOL wrestling programs this season.
There is no doubt, the SOL will have multiple individual state place-winners once again this year and hopefully some state champs. Several SOL teams have made early statements about who may reign king in District One when the PIAA Team Championships arrive January 22, 2026, with the start of the D1 Team Championship.
Pennridge (5-1) is off to a hot start with a big win over Quakertown (0-1) last week 41-22, and a 4-1 performance at the Bear Duals at Boyertown. The Rams defeated Council Rock North (4-3) 35-23 for their first signature win of the year, and followed that up with a win over their neighboring rival Quakertown 41-22. Pennridge, surprisingly lost to Pennsbury (2-4) in a tight one at Boyertown 36-34. Pennsbury dropped to 2-4 after their most recent loss to Council Rock South in SOL Patriot action 45-17.
Pennridge is led by newcomer Matt Coffin who is hot off a third-place finish at the PennStro Leasing Kick-Off Classic at Cumberland Valley and sports a 9-2 record at 127-pounds, along with some seasoned veterans. Kevin McFadden was also third at 133 at CV, and stalwart Quinn McBride continues his winning ways, as he was the runner-up at 145. The Rams crowned one champ with 215-pounder Sawyer Ermigiotti, who downed Wilson West Lawn’s Ethan Brownback by fall in the championship final. The Rams finished 6th overall as a team.
Council Rock South (1-1) finished ahead of the Rams at CV with a fourth place finish in the team race. Bishop McDevitt ran away with the team title amassing 228.5 points, Nazareth was the team runner-up. The Golden Hawks also have a super-frosh in Quinn Bagnell at 107, who finished third along with Logan Worth at 114-pounds. CRS’s only champ was John Segata at 121, but with two runners-up at 139 and 285 respectfully, Pat Woloshyn and Matthew Scott, the Golden Hawks made their opening tournament statement that they too will be back in the mix for SOL & D1 supremecy.
Central Bucks West (0-2) traveled to Carlisle to open their tourney season and crowned a champ with one of PA’s best, Chris Dennis at 172-pounds. Brother Daniel placed second at 145 and Kevin Mallon was third at 160. The Bucks finished fifth overall in the team standings. But it was another Central Bucks team that did just a bit better in the team race, as CB East (0-0) placed third behind champs Biglerville and runner-up Garnet Valley. Returning state-champ Chase Williams won the 127-pound title along with Coltan Jones at 152. Johnny Hunter was the runner-up at 107-pounds and Brogan Kendall was fourth at 121. The Patriots have a nice trio down low in their lineup and could surprise some teams in SOL Colonial action in the New Year.
Other teams looking to improve early on in the season, as both dual meet teams and tourney teams, include Council Rock North (4-3), Hatboro-Horsham (1-4) & Quakertown (0-1) who all had a mixed bag of results over the first couple of weeks. H-H will head to the Beast of the East this coming weekend with superstar Dom Morrison wrestling at 120-pounds, while Quakertown will ease in with a few more dual meets before heading up the Bethlehem Holiday Classic, and CR North will take their solid group of grapplers to Delaware as well to the Beast. North is led by a core group of Nick Guzzo (114), A.J. Kane (121), Chase Mancini (127), Marco Loss (133) & Pierce Kane at 139-pounds.
Keep an eye on Souderton, as they are 3-3 with impressive wins over Hatboro-Horsham (47-18) and Neshaminy (44-21) at the Bear Duals. The Indians are led by Ezra Swartley (127), Dom Ramos (152) and Matt McCormick who has yet to wrestle this season. Abington may be another team to be wary of, as the Ghosts reigned king at the Pottstown Invitational early on. Ryan Solomon (3rd) is the big name for the Ghosts at 172, but 189-pounder Antonio Marzulli was crowned the champ at 189. Others placing in the top four were Adam Croft runner-up at 127, Nathan Staub third at 285 and Damian Mager was fourth at 152. The Ghosts’ Elijah Brown has not yet wrestled this season. The SOL Liberty Division maybe wide-open one for a team champ as Plymouth-Whitmarsh is off to a 3-0 start with a team title at the Colley Classic hosted by West Chester East with their 37-36 victory over Ridley.
