The seniors in the Pennridge football program tasted the thrill of victory as the Rams captured a Suburban One League National Conference championship this season – but what the Pennridge seniors have never experienced is the thrill of victory over rival Quakertown on Thanksgiving morning.
The seniors in the Quakertown football program felt the thrill of victory as the Panthers captured a Suburban One League Continental Conference tri-championship last season – and what the Quakertown seniors have never experienced is the agony of defeat against rival Pennridge on Thanksgiving morning.
Quakertown has won four consecutive Thanksgiving morning games over Pennridge, however, it is not the longest winning streak the Panthers have had over the 95 years of the series.
Q-town had a 5-game Turkey Day win streak from 1947 to 1951.
Pennridge, though, has the longest win streak in the series. The Rams won 7 consecutive Turkey Day games from 1972 to 1978.
A quick look at the records of both Quakertown (4-6) and Pennridge (12-2) would indicate that the Panther win streak would come to an end this season.
But all you really know – is that you really don’t know - and that’s why they play the games.
Stay tuned.
The Golden Age of Panther/Ram football
Quakertown & Pennridge dominated the old Bux-Mont League during a stretch from 1953 to 1957 where either the Panthers or the Rams were league champions.
Pennridge won league titles in 1953, 1955, & 1957 while winning those championships over Q-town on the grass & dirt @ legendary Poppy Yoder Field in Perkasie.
Quakertown won league titles in 1954 & 1956 and winning those championships over the Rams on the grass & dirt @ legendary Alumni Memorial Field in Quakertown.
