The Suburban One League was more than up to the task of competing in the opening round of the Class 6A PIAA District One tournament last week.
Five of the seven SOL teams claimed victories in that first round – with the only two defeated teams losing against other SOL teams.
No. 1 Pennridge, No. 2 North Penn, No. 5 Council Rock South, No. 7 Souderton & No. 11 Neshaminy all advanced to the Class 6A PIAA District One tournament quarterfinals.

No. 6 Central Bucks West lost to Neshaminy (28-21) -and No. 16 Plymouth Whitemarsh lost to Pennridge (22-21).
The Bucks led 14-0 early in its game with the Redskins as Nick Miletto scored on runs of the one & 19 yards. Louie Cipollo scored a fourth quarter touchdown.
The Black & Gold, however, yielded 28 unanswered points between scores.
Central Bucks West finished its season with an overall record of 7-4. The Bucks concluded the SOL National Conference season in a tie for second place with North Penn & Neshaminy with a conference record of 5-2.
The Colonials lost a heartbreaker to the top seeded Rams. PW led 21-7 in the second half but failed to finish off the upset, yielding a touchdown and 2-point conversion with 59 seconds remaining in the game.
Michael Bongard scored on a 15-yard run and caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cole Reily. James Cain scored on a 57-yard run.
Plymouth Whitemarsh finished its season with an overall record of 7-4. The Colonials concluded the SOL American Conference as the 5-time conference champion with a conference record of 5-0.
Additional One & Done…
The trio of SOL Class 5A teams that made the tournament were all jettisoned from the PIAA District One playoffs.
No. 5 Wissahickon was shown the exit door by No. 12 Unionville, 27-14. The Trojans ended its successful season with a record of 9-2.
Wissahickon led 14-0 early in the game as Evan Tolmie fired a 34-yard touchdown pass to Quentin West, and Andrew Roman scored on 48-yard ‘pick-6’.
No. 13 Upper Moreland was shown the exit door by No. 4 Strath Haven, 35-21. The Golden Bears finished its season with a winning record at 6-5.
Upper Moreland was tied at 21-21 after 3 quarters. The offensive highlights for the Purple & Gold were a pair of touchdown passes from David Adamski to Larry Hughes.
No. 16 Upper Dublin was shown the exit door by No. 1 Springfield-Delco, 49-20. The Flying Cardinals finished their season with a record of 4-7.
Upper Dublin led in the Springfield-Delco game 14-6 at the close of the first quarter, but the Cardinals were outscored 29-6 in the second period.
The lone SOL Class 4A playoff team that made the postseason was jettisoned from the playoffs as No. 4 Springfield Twp was defeated by No. 1 Pope John Paul II, 48-0.
The Spartans finished their season with a record of 4-6.

No. 8 Downingtown East (8-3) @ No. 1 Pennridge Rams (10-1)
Last Week:
Downingtown East won a thriller of an opening round playoff game with a 20-16 victory over No. 9 Spring-Ford.
The Cougars were down 16-7 with 5 minutes left in the game but scored 2 touchdowns in that final 5 minutes to capture the win.
Juelz Robinson scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with just 6 seconds left in the game for the winners. Ethan Ellis threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Abe Sesay – Ellis completed 13 of 19 passes for 103 yards. Alex Rios scored on a 3-yard run to cap a 13-play – 98-yard drive.
Pennridge won a thriller of its own with 22-21 victory over No. 16 Plymouth Whitemarsh. Ryan Rowe scored both the final touchdown and 2-point conversion with just 59 seconds left in the game.
The Rams trailed the Colonials 21-7 in the second half but rallied back to capture the victory. Pennridge trailed PW @ halftime, 14-7.
Ram quarterback Noah Keating threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Connor McMillian and scored on a 1-yard keeper. Keating completed 11 of 16 passes for 110 yards.
Season Resume:
Downingtown East has won games against Northeast (33-0), Spring-Ford (21-17), Boyertown (28-0), Great Valley (42-13), WC East (51-26), Coatesville (15-0) & Spring-Ford (20-16).
The Cougars have lost games to North Penn (42-21), West Chester Rustin (31-14) & Downingtown West (22-14).
Pennridge has won games against Liberty (31-21), Bensalem (36-33), Truman (41-12), Pennsbury (14-0), North Penn (34-10), Abington (43-8), Neshaminy (14-7), CB East (15-8) & CB South (28-7).
The lone loss for the Rams was against CB West, 28-14.
Scoring Summary:
Downingtown East has scored an average of 26.2 points per game and has allowed an average of 17.5 points per game.
Pennridge has allowed an average of 26.5 points per game and has allowed an average of 15.5 points per game.

Last Week:
Souderton opened the playoffs with a solid victory over Ridley, 23-6. The Big Red led from the outset and never looked back against the Green Raiders.
The Indians opened the scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run by JoJo Sudi and added a game-breaking 79-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Walsh to Hunter Smeltz. Caleb Moyer closed out the scoring with a 1-yard run.
Souderton also added a special team scoring play when a blocked punt by Noah Porter resulted in a safety.
North Penn showed no mercy as the Knights rolled to a 42-14 opening round victory over visiting Boyertown.
Matt Pownall opened the scoring with a 68-yard run. Matt Bucksar fired a 26-yard touchdown pass to Will Rittenhouse, while Aiden Ashley scored on a 1-yard run. Rylei Gray visited the endzone twice – once on a 20-yard run – and the other on a 41-yard run.
The Knights led 35-0 at the half putting the mercy-rule into effect.

No. 5 Council Rock South (10-1) @ No. 4 Coatesville (9-2)
Last Week:
Council Rock South broke open a tight 7-7 game as the Golden Hawks scored 20 unanswered points in a 27-7 opening round playoff win over No. 12 Haverford.
The play that broke the game open for Rock South was an 80-yard touchdown run by Nate Szydlik. Szydlik also scored on the defensive side of the ball returning an interception 30 yards for a touchdown.
Gavin Lacey added 2 touchdown runs to fuel the offense.
Coatesville advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 27-10 victory over Perkiomen Valley.
It was the second win of the year against the Vikings as the Red Raiders captured a 28-13 victory in the third week of the season.
Through the first 8 weeks of the season Coatesville was unbeaten and was the No. 2 ranked team in the 6A District One rankings. However, the Red Raiders were shut out 2 weeks in a row by Downingtown East (15-0) & Downingtown West (33-0).
Season Resume:
Council Rock South has defeated Frankford (50-8), Pennsbury (20-6), Cheltenham (28-20), Upper Dublin (34-14), Bensalem (14-12), Truman (42-7), Souderton (14-7), Quakertown (28-27), Council Rock North (49-0) & Haverford (27-7).
The only loss of the season for the Golden Hawks came in a 21-14 loss to North Penn.
Coatesville has defeated Garnet Valley (35-10), Smyrna (Del.) (49-46), Lincoln (35-6), Perkiomen Valley (28-13), WC East (42-21), Avon Grove (45-13), WC Henderson (33-7), Bishop Shanahan (28-7) & Perkiomen Valley (27-10).
The Red Raiders have lost games to Downingtown East (15-0) & Downingtown West (33-0).
Scoring Summary:
Council Rock South has scored an average of 29.1 points per game and has allowed an average of 11.7 points per game.
Coatesville has scored an average of 29.3 points per game and has allowed an average of 16.5 points per game.

No. 14 Owen J Roberts (8-3) @ No. 11 Neshaminy (8-3)
Last Week:
Owen J Roberts provided the biggest shocker in all of District One as the Wildcats defeated defending district champion & No. 3 seeded Downingtown West, 10-7.
Owen J Roberts led 7-0 early – was tied @ 7-7 – and kicked a field goal in the second half to secure the upset. The Wildcats held the potent Whippet offense in check for the entire game.
Owen J Roberts finished the regular season in 4th place in the Pioneer Athletic Conference – Liberty Division with a conference record of 3-3.
Neshaminy surprisingly will host a District One 6A playoff game @ Heartbreak Ridge as the Redskins defeated No. 6 Central Bucks West, 28-21.
Neshaminy had defeated the Bucks 28-18 during the regular SOL National Conference season.
Quarterback Michael Eckart had a spectacular outing for the Skins. Eckart accounted for 335 yards of total offense, rushing for 2 touchdowns on runs of 15 & 35 yards and passing for 2 touchdowns – one to Mike Sassano for 10 yards – and the other to Nick Sassano for 29 yards.

Owen J Roberts has defeated Conestoga (32-10), Pottsgrove (14-7), Great Valley (31-12), Avon Grove (42-19), Norristown (46-19), Boyertown (28-13), Methacton (28-21), & Downingtown West (10-7)
The Wildcats have lost games to Perkiomen Valley (28-14), Spring-Ford (21-9) & Pope John Paul II (27-7).
Neshaminy has defeated Emmaus (30-0), Council Rock North (41-0). North Penn (18-14), Abington (48-6), Central Bucks West (28-18), Central Bucks East (41-35), Pennsbury (35-14) & Central Bucks West (28-21).
The Redskins have lost games to Cheltenham (38-29), Pennridge (14-7) & Central Bucks South (24-21).
Scoring Summary:
Owen J Roberts has scored an average of 23.7 points per game and has allowed an average of 17.6 points per game.
Neshaminy has scored an average of 29.6 points per game and has allowed an average of 16.7 points per game.
