Cheltenham Falls to Springfield on Senior Night Finale

Arcadia University – On a special night honoring Cheltenham’s seniors, the Panthers closed out their season with a spirited performance against Springfield, ultimately falling 8-2 in a high-energy contest under the lights at Arcadia University.

The game began with both sides evenly matched, and Cheltenham was unlucky not to open the scoring early. Billy Fishman narrowly missed from close range, and Jayce also came close to putting the Panthers ahead. Despite their strong start, it was Springfield who struck first, capitalizing on a midfield turnover and finishing with a precise shot into the top right corner to go up 1-0.

Springfield doubled their lead shortly after with a quick counterattack. Cheltenham goalkeeper Wolf Brown managed to get his fingertips to the shot but couldn’t keep it out, making it 2-0 to the visitors.

Cheltenham responded through standout senior Ean Justice, who started the play from the back, beat several defenders on a determined run, and finished calmly into the bottom left corner to bring the score to 2-1.

The second half opened with Emile Chanoine surging forward, dancing past multiple defenders before being brought down just outside the Springfield box. Justice’s resulting free kick narrowly missed the post. Springfield then regained control with a third goal, followed by another Cheltenham counterattack — again led by Chanoine, who made a dazzling run from deep but couldn’t find the finish.

Springfield capitalized with two quick strikes, extending their lead to 5-1. Cheltenham answered with a creative move: after a foul near midfield, Justice delivered a pinpoint pass to Wolf Brown — who had come out of goal to join the attack — and Brown calmly slotted it home to make it 5-2.

Chanoine continued to torment Springfield’s defense with several dangerous runs and shots, though none found the net. With ten minutes remaining, Cheltenham’s coaching staff gave every senior and bench player a chance to take the field on Senior Night.

Springfield added two more goals late, bringing the tally to 7-2. In a moment of confusion, Brown — now playing outfield — picked up the ball in the box, forgetting he was no longer in goal. With Ean Justice having taken over as goalkeeper, the mishap resulted in a penalty. Justice managed to get a hand to the spot kick but couldn’t keep it out, sealing the final score at 8-2.

Despite the result, the match was filled with standout individual efforts and a clear display of heart from Cheltenham.
