First half: 4-0
Coaches take: This Truman team has more freshman and sophomores than juniors and seniors. We do not have a JV team. We just faced a Council Rock team with 21 juniors and seniors on their roster. Truman has only 5 girls whom played more than two seasons of high school soccer and 22 girls playing varsity soccer with less than two years high school soccer experience!
Senior captain Grace Darpino put together yet another full 80 minute game, but the team relied on many first-year players such Azra Biyik, Ella Goldwyn and Isabella Guijosa-Morales who came in and played a lot of tough minutes. 2nd year player Monica Almanza stood out with her versatility, playing tenacious and aggressive defense shifting from outside fullback to stopper, center mid, left mid and right mid.
Coaches can teach and preach all they want, but the effort given is up to each player once she steps on the field. We play in a tough conference with a lot of really good teams and we have been more competitive than previous seasons, keeping games closer for longer periods. The hard work and progression is a testament to the strength of character of every girl on this team.
