JN Comments: Very proud of our group for pulling out this win today. Conestoga is a first-rate program and a very, very good team, so to get the offensive output we did, to bounce back from going down early in the second half, and win it in OT requires a real, gritty team-effort.
First Half, I thought we were really good. Moved the ball well, created a quite a few high-quality chances early and eventually netted the first goal of the day within the first ten minutes off an Ella Roumy corner goal. Stoga made a couple tactical changes that made the game a bit more difficult in the center of the park and we struggled to maintain possession, but still manufactured a handful of good opportunities we just couldn't convert. Within the last 5, I thought we gave up a bit of a self-inflicted goal, but all credit goes to Stoga for tying the game back up right before the half.
In the second, I thought Stoga jumped on us early and netted a pretty uncontested finish on a free kick that then had us chasing the game. From there, we probably got a bit too far away from what we are best at, but credit to the girls for finding pockets of composure, creativity, and decisiveness to put together another 3 or 4 really good chances to tie this game up. Right around 25 minutes remaining, Taylor Roumy played a ball in behind from left to Right into Mia who got to the endline, cut a ball back and Mattie Wiliams finished really really well a big moment to get us level.
From there, game got a bit stretched, lots of transitions, and while I think we created the better opportunities I don't think either team really controlled the match from there on out.
OT - It's been a minute since we've been in OT and fatigue was definitely a factor, but it felt like we had enough gas in the tank to create a few more chances. With about 5 left, earned a free kick about 35 out. A really good ball in from right to left, and Addie Langlois just caught it perfectly off the bounce for a lofted volley to win it.
Overall, this was a good team win that wasn't always pretty but this team finds a way to get tough games like this over the line.
Props: While their names surprisingly don't show up on the score sheet today, I thought Taylor Roumy and Mia Forney had massive days for us. I think Mia put together her best game of the season for us so far and it showed in the number of scoring chances and corners earned today. Kiera was a huge difference maker for us in the center of the park and really liked how her and Mackenzie Peters worked off each other today. Two really good goals from our Ella and Mattie today in big moments, and then Addie Langlois out of the back in the biggest moment of the day.
