Council Rock South Comments
CR South took and early long bus ride to Allentown today to play previously unbeaten Parkland. We felt we had a solid game plan to deal with the threats they have and to give us a chance at getting one on the road. We generated early chances but couldn’t find that final touch until midway through the first half when Macy Laidlaw created some space and drove at their back line. She was able to find Anna Horn’s feet and Anna played a one time pass to Teagan Shay for a first touch finish. We generated a few more chances in the first half but went into halftime 1-0. We discussed they would chase the game a bit and throw numbers forward we had to adjust on the fly. It played out that way, and kudos to our girls for communicating changes and substitutions down the stretch. Ella Mayberry had a big save late as we left with a 1-0 win. I thought our defense was fantastic today. Krissy Philip really shut down her side and got us forward offensively, and Kate Hickey, Brooke Pavlow, and Carly Conetta really limited what Parkland did. Brooke had a tough assignment on a big, strong girl that already has 20 goals on the year and Brooke played it exactly how we wanted. Total team effort with midfielders anticipating their third man runs and really breaking down what they wanted to do offensively. It was a great mental win- 90 minute bus ride at 7:30 am with homecoming dance tonight- a situation that if we weren’t mentally strong could have done us in before the game started. Very pleased with their effort and unity today from those that played 80 minutes to those that were on the bench being vocal.

Goals: Teagan Shay from Anna Horn, 27:00

Ella Mayberry with the shutout.
