Great game back and forth, but the Bensalem Owls lose 1-0 to upper Moreland in overtime. Both teams had their chances as the game played out over 60 minutes, but neither team was able to score.Upper Moreland scored 2 minutes and two seconds into the overtime on a beautiful night for hockey. We played very sound hockey tonight as we have been, but the coaches are still unable to find the right mix to get their offense going. We have some very great players, but we're still trying to find the right combinations. It's a work in progress, and while I'm saddened that we didn't get the win tonight, I'm proud of the girls for playing the way they did throughout.
There were tons of fans out for our Youth night, 9/11 Remembrance and first night game of the season! Both teams have played each other multiple times in winter league and summer league. We always have evenly matched play that has created a respectful rivalry between our teams that are both trying to build more competitive programs.
UM dominated play in the beginning of the game and got some good shot opportunities off, but Bensalem's goalie and defenders made several key stops.
Both goalies played well with 8 saves for UM’s Tierney Hogan in the shut out and Bensalem goalie Fricke had 6 saves.
Then as game play continued Bensalem picked up play and got several opportunities in our defensive end. Bensalem was very good with their stops against our free hits.
Our midfielders were key in this game, since there was so much play between the 25’s. Both teams had breakaways, but a lot of the game was a battle between the 25’s.
Taylor Pagano continues to improve with each game and was on fire tonight. Olivia Torres was dominant with her stickwork in the midfield. Bridget Hess was hustling all over the field. MJ Reilly was moved to midfield and played strong the entire game. Forward Melissa Torpey played resiliently throughout the game bringing the ball up the field multiple times and also getting back on defense to help out.
After 60 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless even though there was a lot of back and forth action and circle play.
3:22 In OT, freshman defender Reese Purcell made a key stop then sent a strong pass up the field to Torres and Gould. Gould took the ball to the left, drew the goalie out and made a reverse hit that crossed the goal and went in for the score!

I started to think we may go into OT and even though we were tired, I knew we just had to keep up the hustle. We worked too hard during the regular time to lose in overtime. I kept telling the girls that I knew we were going to score and we just needed to keep up the energy and those breakaways. When I got the ball I went left and just made the quick decision to take that reverse hit! And the ball went in! We just wanted to show that we left everything on the field tonight!”
