Going into this one, we had a pretty good sense of where we needed to improve and how West might challenge us coming out of a really good win against South. I thought we settled into this game right away and found a good rhythm to our play and it showed in possession and in a couple of good chances off of long services from Addie Langois and Skylar Lipp who were excellent for us today. We just lacked a bit of combination play or the ball in behind to really break through, but finally created a really good chance with about 8 minutes left from a good early pass from Mackenzie Peters into the feet of Taylor Roumy who turned and hit a great ball with West's keeper making an ever better save on. West gave us a few uneasy moments throughout the half in transition and on restarts, but I thought our group with great leadership from Ava Mignon and our Keeper Aralynn Patterson handled things well.
Second Half
CBE GOAL (26:35 remaining) Taylor Roumy, assisted by Mia Forney
I don't think we started the second half particularly well, but created a few good chances in behind their back line which we didn't do as much as we would've liked in the first. With about 15 minutes gone, we won a free kick from wide left. Mia Forney clipped in a really dangerous ball at a good height and great pace, and Taylor just had one heck of a one-touch finish with the outside of the right foot. From there I felt we kept a good rhythm about us, maintained match control, and didn't really give anything away in transition despite some fatigue setting in. Any time you can pick up 3 points in this conference, it's a good night and always fun to do it against a really disciplined West team that makes you earn everything.
Props:
Really proud of our group tonight as it took a bit from everyone. But I thought a couple kids in particular had a really really good nights for us- Skylar Lipp out of the back, who is just such a quiet leader for us, was just really good on the ball and in 1v1 defending tonight. Ella Roumy unlocked us in our build and maintaining possession. And I thought Mackenzie Peters simply balled out. The way she combined, worked away from pressure, won second balls and counter pressed tonight made a huge difference for us.
