North Penn Knights top Faith Christian Lions 4-1
The North Penn Knights, displaying their unwavering determination, extended their undefeated streak to 4-0 after a hard-fought 3-1 win over the formidable Faith Christian Lions. The Knights, undeterred by the Lions' tremendous defense, started the Labor Day weekend on a high note.
The Knights started set one trading punches with the talented Faith Lions. Both teams swapped points, with both teams making unforced hitting and serving errors, and junior setter Sofie Potrusilova pushed the lead to 7-4, and the Lions stormed back to tie the game at 7-7. The teams continued to trade points until 10-10, and North Penn started to pull away, building a 5-point lead and never looking back. The senior captain outside hitter, Madlen Potrusilova, led the team with four kills in set one. The Knights won set one 25-18.
The Knights, with a burst of energy, dominated the early part of set two. The sophomore outside hitter, Holland Van Ooyen, served six consecutive serves, propelling the team to a commanding 10-2 lead. Despite an untimely net violation, the Knights maintained their momentum, eventually securing an impressive eleven-point victory, 25-14.
North Penn started set three with too much confidence, and Faith Christian served tough, keeping the Knights behind the sticks for most of the set. The back-and-forth set was tied at the halfway point, 12-12, and North Penn generated a three-point lead at 16-13 and again at 17-14. Senior captain outside hitter Madlen Potrusilova became the primary outlet for senior captain Belle Mikulski and junior Sofie Potrusilova, assisting on five kills. The Lions' defense shifted into another gear, helping Faith Christian close the gap to 19-19, and went on a three-point run, leading 22-19. After a quick timeout, North Penn stormed back, tying the set at 22, and took a 23-22 lead before Faith tied the set 23-23. The Knights pulled ahead with a set point at 24-23 and an excellent opportunity to win the match. Junior middle hitter Maya Mikulski hit a middle quick just long. Faith Christian took advantage and closed the set 26-24.
The final set of the match was a testament to the Knights' resilience and determination. Both teams trading the lead, with the Knights eventually taking control. Madlen Potrusilova, the senior outside hitter, served five consecutive serves, building a 15-11 lead. Senior libero Kate Donaldson added two points, extending the lead to 17-11. After a quick side out, Belle Mikulski's strong serve built the lead to 22-12, and the Knights, with a display of their unwavering spirit, closed out the match 25-17 after a quick serving run by Faith Christian.
North Penn's 4-0 start is the best since 2009, and the 2025 Knights' campaign signals that they are a strong conference contender.
