Ashley Stank – Gettysburg College (Wrestling)
Major: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Reasons for choosing Gettysburg: “I love the atmosphere and community surrounding the school, and I really like the coaches and their views on the mentality regarding the sport of wrestling.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in wrestling at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about wrestling in college during my junior year, and coaches started reaching out after my junior states tournament.”
Quakertown coach Eric Rosencranz: “I’m not sure you can piece together a much better athletic career than what Ashley has accomplished. She is a founding member of the girls’ wrestling team. She is the second member of the Quakertown girls’ wrestling 100-win club and 11th all-time in wins in all of Pennsylvania, amassing a career record of 113-28. She is a two-time PIAA State Champion, and this past season, she helped her team win not only the first Quakertown girls’ wrestling team state title but the first team state title in Quakertown High School history.
“We were at the state capital, and Ashley was honored along with her teammates for these accomplishments by the State Senate. It truly put into perspective just how far we’ve come.
“Ashley only started wrestling a couple months before her high school career even began. A story I like to tell and that I’ve told a thousand time (and one that Ashley hates) is at one of the first tournaments I was coaching Ash, and during one of her matches I’m yelling a move over and over and over, and she’s just not doing it and not doing it, and I’m thinking she’s just ignoring me or whatever. So, I just keep yelling, and at one point, she looks up mid-match and says, ‘I have no idea what that move is.’
“To go from that day to where she is now shows just how hard she has worked these past four years. To go from a brand new wrestler to the top of your sport is truly remarkable. And she did it with a courseload full of honors and AP classes and carried a 4.0 GPA.
“Ashley is now moving on to Gettysburg where she will once again be a founding member of a girls’ wrestling program. We all know she will continue to work hard and accomplish great things both on and off the mat. Words cannot fully express just how proud I am of all she has done and the impact she has left on our program. She is a true student-athlete and role model for all the girls who will come after her.
“Congrats on this accomplishment, and we all look forward to seeing what you will do on the next level. And as always, I hope you stay ready and super psyched, and may. Your level of jazz always be high.”
