Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s: “Saint Joseph’s has a great reputation along with a quickly growing flag football team, great coaching and amazing talent joining the team. SJU is one of very few colleges to have a Pharmaceutical Business major, along with great co-op and internship 
opportunities. One of the things that originally drew me into this school was the postgraduate job placements and statistics. SJU also has a great location to Philadelphia and very accessible to just about anything.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in flag football at the collegiate level? “I’ve always thought about playing in college. When I started this sport, it quickly grew to advance to the PIAA and collegiate leve l. It’s exciting to be a part of that advance. Over the past few years, I have had amazing coaches who helped me grow to love this sport and feel confident in my abilities. I have always loved being out on the field every day, improving and making friendships.
“I started my recruiting process last year when I started thinking about my future. While I was stuck between attending Penn State and SJU, the determining factor was getting the opportunity to play flag football at Saint Joseph’s. I didn’t even know SJU had a flag team. I was solely interested in the academics and location, but when I found out they had a team, I knew it is where I belonged.”
Quakertown flag football coach Winfield Huber: “I have the privilege of celebrating a special moment for a very special athlete. Shelby will be continuing her athletic and academic career at Saint Joseph’s. I have had the honor of coaching Shelby for the past four years, and during that time, I’ve watched her grow not only into an outstanding football player but into an exceptional person.
“As a defensive back and wide receiver, Shelby has always been the type of player every coach wants on their team. She’s tough, competitive, dependable and never afraid of hard work. Whenever she was making a big play on defense, coming up with a crucial catch or simply doing whatever the team needed, she gave everything she had every day. It wasn’t just Shelby’s athletic ability that stood out the most but also her commitment, her leadership and for the example she sets for those around her. She has represented the Panthers with pride, and she has helped build the culture of our program through her effort, character and dedication.
“I’d also like to recognize her family. Moments like this are made possible by the support, encouragement and sacrifices of parents, family members and close friends. Thank you for helping Shelby reach this incredible milestone. Shelby, I want you to know how proud I am of you. I have no doubt that you’ll bring the same work ethic, determination and heart to St. Joe’s that you brought to our team.
