Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “I chose Kutztown for the campus and my (future) teammates.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in wrestling at the collegiate level? “I wanted to further my wrestling career, and I began emailing coaches and talking to them at matches.”
Quakertown wrestling coach Kurt Handel: “Statistically speaking, Logan was a very good wrestler. Personally speaking, he’s a respectful, well-mannered, hardworking young man with
great grades.
“In Logan’s freshman year, he went 27-7 and just missed qualifying for the regional tournament. Sophomore year, he went 1-3 (more on that later). His junior year, he came back and got everything together. He was 23-12 and a regional qualifier, just missing out on being a state qualifier. His senior year, he was 40-10 and qualified for the state tournament. He went 2-2 at the state tournament, one match away from being one of the top eight wrestlers in the state – pretty impressive credentials.
“For his career, Logan was 91-41 with 51 pins, putting him in our top 20 career pin list. These records go back to our first team in 1959-60.
“We have a quote in our wrestling room that say, ‘All grit, no quit.’ Logan is the poster child for that quote. His sophomore year, he sustained a season-ending injury to his shoulder and lost his entire year. He unfortunately learned quickly that life can be very cruel to you when you have goals to accomplish. The doctors said he would be back in a year, and he did return for his junior year, but he didn’t have any preseason or preseason workouts, and there was doubt that his shoulder was 100 percent.
“There were times when Logan had to grit through some minor setbacks. It would have been easy for him to say, ‘I’m not wrestling anymore,’ but Logan has that ‘all grit, no quit’ mentality. He pushed through the minor setbacks to finish one match away from being a state qualifier his junior year. His senior year, he was elected to be a team captain for the second year in a row. He capped off his senior year by qualifying for the state tournament, finishing one match short of the top eight.
“Logan’s teams did every well. He never lost a team match, going 20-0 and winning four Liberty Division titles in a row. He also kept the program’s consecutives league titles going, earning the team’s 10th league title in 10 years. Kutztown is fortunate to be getting a real good wrestler and a great student, but it won’t take them long to realize he’s also a great person and human being. Logan, thank you for four great years, being a leader and being a role model. I’m looking forward to your career at Kutztown.”
