On Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, North Penn seniors Joey Sharkey and Justin Landis were recognized for committing to continue their track/cross country careers at the collegiate level.

Justin Landis – Penn State University (Cross Country/Track & Field)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: Penn State, University of Pittsburgh
Reasons for choosing Penn State: “I chose Penn State because they have a really strong business program, which is my intended major, and I ultimately fell in love with the campus when I
went there. They also have a really strong track and cross country program.”
North Penn coach Mike Werner: “Justin was a four-year runner at North Penn for cross country and track, a four-time state qualifier and two-time all-state for cross country and led the team to a team title this past fell. Justin is also a two-time captain. He’s a great leader, a hard worker, the fastest North Penn cross country runner of all time and one of the best leaders we’ve ever had as well.”
North Penn distance track coach Dominic Calamia: “I’ve been able to train Justin Landis and Joey Sharkey from freshman all the way through their senior year. They’re both great kids. Justin, who’s going to Penn State, is the current school record holder in the mile, 1600, the 2-mile. He’s a tremendous leader and tremendous talent. He works incredibly hard, never questions what you’re doing and always gives 110 percent and shows up on race day. He is now a 3-time state champion between indoor 4x800, outdoor 4x800 and cross country.

Joey Sharkey – West Chester University (Cross Country/Track & Field)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Shippensburg, Marywood
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I chose West Chester for their good business program,
and they’re a great team.”
North Penn cross country coach Mike Werner: “Joey Sharkey was also a captain for the cross country team. He was a four-year runner and state medal winner and district medal winner. He was also a tremendous leader as a captain for us this past cross country season. He’s a hard worker, team oriented. Both Joey and Justin are pretty much the reasons why we won the state title this past fall.”
North Penn distance track coach Dominic Calamia: “Joey Sharkey was a state champion in cross country. He’s another tremendous leader. He works very hard, does everything you could ever ask of him, and he’s very good with the younger athletes – pulls them along, shows them the right way to do things, and West Chester is getting a great asset to their team. I’m very proud of these two young men.”
