District One Swimming and Diving Wrap-up: A THREEpeat and THIRD place
The UDHS Boys’ and Girls’ Swimming teams continued their season long success stories at York YMCA ‘s Graham Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday during the District One Swimming Championships. Both teams did their talking IN the pool, grabbing gold and other medals aplenty and will be sending strong contingents to Bucknell for the PIAA State Championship meet. The boys’ team, in a rebuilding year, managed to finish third in District oOe, only 18 points behind first place Conestoga. The girls’ easily outdistanced the field for their THIRD consecutive District One championship.
Here are the important facts:
For the boys:
1.) 10 boys represented UD, the second most qualifiers since 2016 with 20 swimmers and 1 diver over the 12 events.
2.) Two of the three relays finished on the podium as medalists and guaranteed state qualification for the two free relays with the 400 free relay finishing in third and the 200 Free Relay of Luke Sullivan, Luke Wilmoth, Jack McManus and Brady Manser taking first!
3.) They earned 7 medals (2 relays and 5 individuals). Gold medals went to Luke Sullivan (IM) and Brady Manser (50 and 100 Freestyle). Luke also picked up a silver medal in the Breaststroke, while Eli Lowenthal-Cales medaled with a fifth place finish in diving.
4.) Brady Manser’s three gold medals (including the 200 Relay) earned him the honor of being named District One Male Swimmer of the Meet!
5.) Most importantly, after losing 7 seniors from last year’s district squad, the TEAM finished in THIRD place only 18 points behind first place Conestoga with a total of 163 points in one of the closest Districts meets in the last 20 years. This was the second most team points scored by the boys since the 2016 team that won Districts and were National Public School Champs.
For the girls:
1.) The Lady cards started with 18 Swomen competing, (the most of any team in the meet) with 31 individual swims and one diver over the 9 individual events (again, the MOST of any team in the district).
2.) They finished FIRST in ALL 3 relays with the medley of Vikki Williams, Sophia Sileo-Magliari, Olivia Auwarter and Maddie Shapiro, the 200 free relay of Alicia Taylor, Alyssa Auwarter, Sileo-Magliari and Shapiro, and the 400 free relay of Taylor, Olivia Auwarter, Jessie Motelson and Williams with season best times in each! 
They were the ONLY team to have three relays in the top 5 finishers (much less the top 3.
3.) SIXTEEN of their individual swims earned medals with an incredible THREE medalists in the IM, butterfly and breaststroke events alone. Our individual gold medal winner was Sophia Sileo-Magliari in the Breaststroke, where she set a new District One record. Double medal winners were Casey Braun, Olivia Auwarter, Alyssa Auwarter, Sophia Sileo-Magliari, Maddie Shapiro, Alicia Taylor, Jessie Motelson and Vikki Williams.
4.) TWENTY ONE individual swim/dives scored in the TOP 16! That means they not only SCORED in EVERY individual event, but they had multiple scorers in 7 of the 9 events. Even more stunning, all FOUR of their entries scored in TOP 16 in the butterfly.
5.) UDHS Girls’ Swimming and Diving won their THIRD District One Championship in a row (#THREEpeat #hanganotherbanner) with a score of 380 total points, 223 points MORE than their nearest competition, Downington West. They were so dominant they would have won the meet after the butterfly WITHOUT the points they scored in the final SIX events of the meet….they had the meet won BEFORE the end of DAY ONE. They outscored the combined scores of second and third place teams by 76 points.
