CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 7, PENNRIDGE 5 (8 innings)
Every win looms large as the regular season winds down, and the Patriots – 22nd in the latest District 1 #A rankings - notched an important win over Pennridge in SOL crossover play Monday.
Hailey Helmstetter’s two-run double was the big blow in the inning that also included an important insurance run by Sarah Zmuda, who earned the win in relief in the circle.
Helmstetter led the Patriots with three hits. Sydney Hahn and Olivia Owtsharuk both added a pair of hits.

Key inning: Top of eighth – The two teams were deadlocked 3-3 after seven. With one out in the top of the eighth, Hailey Hickman, Lyla Becker and Sarah Zmuda (RBI) hit back-to-back-to-back singles. A pair of runners scored when Hailey Helmstetter ripped a double to left field, and Sydney Hahn’s single scored Helmstetter, giving the Patriots a 7-3 lead.

--Props: “We finally got a close one. We started shaky on defense but were able to settle down. Our pitchers, Ashlyn Helmstetter and Sarah Zmuda, both did a great job. We should have made it easier for them, but we struggled defensively.
“So proud how we continued to fight. Olivia Owtscharuk made a great play in the seventh, doubling up a runner at third. Pennridge never gave up either and battled to the last out. Credit to their coaches and players. Great effort by both teams.”
Up next: Central Bucks East will be on the road at Souderton Tuesday, and Pennridge will travel to North Penn on Tuesday.

QUAKERTOWN 2, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
The Panthers won a thriller, earning the walk-off win when Katie Despirito – courtesy runner for Kaylee Carr, who singled – scored on a two-out wild pitch. It capped a classic battle between a pair of teams battling for a spot in the District 1 6A Tournament.
“It was a good game,” Quakertown coach Rich Scott said. “They’re well-coached. Mike (Daher’s) a good coach. We played a good game today.”
Talk about a change of fortunes – this was it. The two teams were both coming off lopsided losses in games they were outscored by a combined 35-2.
“We’re on a roller coaster,” said Scott on the heels of his team’s 19-2 loss to Central Bucks South. “We’ve got some young kids, growing teens, and they’ve played some really nice games and are good defensively, and some games not so good. Our defense was solid tonight.”
Ava Jones and Carr combined for the win in the circle.
“I started Ava Jones in the circle, and she went three innings,” Scott said. “The idea going in she was going to go maybe two, and I would bring Kaylee (Carr) in for two, but she was doing well, so I let her in for three.
“Kaylee came in the fourth and finished the game. I was just trying to get the batters to look at different pitchers and throw them off a little. Our defense was solid tonight.”
One defensive play, according to the Panthers’ coach, could well have been the difference between winning and losing.
“When Ava Jones was out in left field, she made a heck of a running catch in left center, and that was a highlight reel right there,” Scott said. “It was in the top of the fourth inning – Hailey Worthington lined out to left field, and there was a runner on first. It would have been extra bases plus a run probably scores. That was a huge catch, that was huge.”
Earlier, in the top of the first, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead on consecutive one-out singles by Cadence Jozefowski, Ellie Hilton and Gianna Santangelo (RBI). The Panthers evened the score in the sixth, setting the stage for Quakertown’s dramatic seventh.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 13, ABINGTON 4
The Hatters erupted for seven runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to the team’s third win in four games. Isabella Karpovich led the Hatters in the circle and at the plate, earning the win and also delivering three hits,
including a double and triple, and four RBIs.
Abington made it a 7-4 game with two runs in both the second and third innings. Sophia Dever’s leadoff triple ignited a three-run second. Dever’s RBI double highlighted a two-run third.
The Hatters closed out the contest with six unanswered runs in the closing innings.

Key inning: Bottom of first – Maya Ravi led off the inning with a double and scored one out later when Isabella Karpovich lined a triple to right field. A run scored on a fielder’s choice, and then Molly Harrigton hit a triple to right field that plated a run. The fourth run of the inning scored on a fielder’s choice. Sydney Cassel followed with a single, and the Hatters had a pair on board when Faith Brown doubled. Annabelle Deacon followed with a two-run single, and Ravi – in her second at bat in the inning – tripled home the seventh run.

“We have been on a little bit of a roll as of late. Even though we lost to CR North 4-3 in a walk-off, I told the girls if we could take that team to the brink, we could play with anybody. They just need to believe in themselves and put the effort in.
“Isabella Karpovich and Kennedy Conn have switched roles between pitching and second base, and it’s been working out well so far. Offensively, one through nine have finally started to hit and put some balls in play and they’re making things happen. I just hope it’s not too little too late with four games left.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday, and Abington will be on the road at Wissahickon.

Teagan Stanley and Emma Keeley combined on a four-hitter in the circle while Gia Bono provided the big hit – a two-run double in the third inning, propelling the Colonials to the non-league win Monday.
