PENNSBURY 6, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3
Jaylynn Rodweller – after being sidelined the entire season last year with an ACL injury - has returned to the Falcons’ lineup with a vengeance. The senior slugger hit home run number 10 of a remarkable season Thursday, and this one – with the Falcons trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh - might have been the sweetest and certainly the most dramatic.
“Jaylynn Rodwell had a good at bat – 2-2 count, she just hit a rocket,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “She’s just killing it, but you play the percentages.”
Rodweller’s blast came after Jenna Thompson – who has seven home runs and hit a solo shot earlier in the game - was intentionally walked to load the bases. It was a pick-your-poison situation as they are two of the league’s most dangerous hitters. This one didn’t pay dividends as Rodweller delivered, and the Falcons held on for the 6-3 win.
Rodweller finished the day a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, home run and four RBIs.
Paige Fidishun notched the complete game win.
“She got some big outs, and she helped keep us in the game,” McSherry said. “We were down 3-0, and it could have gotten ugly, but she kept us in the game.”
“We had zero errors – we just played good defense.”
The win was the seventh in a row for the Falcons.
“We had that stretch of about 10 days or so where we weren’t playing the way we’re capable of playing,” McSherry said. “We’ve gotten on the right track, put together a decent run.”

Key inning: Trailing 3-2 and down to their final two outs, Bella Morales drew a walk, and Liv Czerniak lined a single to left field. With runners on the corners, the Indians elected to issue an intentional walk to Jenna Thompson to load the bases. Jaylynn Rodweller made that decision hurt, smashing a grand slam over the center field fence, turning a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead.

--The win: “This was really big because they just killed us the last time – 10-runned us., so we had to show that we’re a little better than to get 10-runned. Our kids did a nice job responding. They were looking forward to this game because they knew that they’re better than a 10-run rule.
“Council Rock North has a good team. They hit, they run, they bunt, and their pitcher (Mia Kiskurno) is so good.”

The Redskins scored in all seven innings and – after a five-run third – led 7-0, but Truman answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and threatened to make things interesting.
The Redskins, however, kept scoring. For the game, they had 16 hits – led by the three hit efforts of Kendall McCafferty and Keira Secoda. McCaffferty hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth

The Golden Hawks opened up a 5-0 lead before the Owls got on the scoreboard. Bensalem would get no closer than 6-3, and the Hawks scored three runs in the top of the sixth that was highlighted by an RBI double from Ashlyn Curtier, and a two-run home run by Margot McLean.
“Today our offense got back on track in a big way as we were able to collect 16 hits as a team, including four different players finishing with three hits each,” Rock South coach Scott Molle said. “Overall, it was a very solid and complete game for us and exactly the type of performance we were looking for as we continue working to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
“The approach at the plate was much better throughout the lineup, and the girls did a great job making adjustments, staying aggressive in hitters’ counts, and putting pressure on the defense all game long.”
Curtier, Paige Brady, Sophia Salamon and Molly Gabrielle were all part of Rock South’s three-hit club.

Key inning: Top of second – The Golden Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first and put some distance between themselves and the Owls in a three-run second. All three runs were unearned as Molly Gabriele reached second on a two-out, two-base error on a bunt. Jenna Pesapane walked, and Ashlyn Curtier brought both runners home with a triple to left field. Curtier scored the third run of the inning on a single by Paige Brady.

Gabrielle steps to the fore: “Our senior captain Molly Gabriele had an outstanding day for us and once again showed why she is such an important part of this team. Molly hits in the 9-hole, but she brings so much more than what people typically expect from that spot in the lineup. She is the type of player who can beat you in multiple ways — whether it’s dropping down a bunt, using her speed to pressure the defense, or driving the ball into the gaps for extra bases. Today she did all of that. Molly picked up two singles early in the game and then in her final at-bat absolutely crushed a ball that just missed leaving the yard, settling for a double. She also scored two runs for us.
“What makes Molly so valuable goes far beyond the stat sheet. She is a leader in every sense of the word and someone this young team looks up to every single day. Her passion for the game, her energy, her toughness, and her willingness to do whatever the team needs are qualities that cannot be taught. Whether it is making plays defensively, coming through with a big hit, or simply leading by example, Molly impacts the game in so many ways. You truly cannot replace a player like Molly Gabriele, and she has been one of the best kids I’ve had the privilege and pleasure to coach.”
--More props: “Paige Brady also had a tremendous day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Paige continues to play some of her best softball of the season and her development has been tremendous to watch. She has grown into such a complete player both offensively and defensively. At the plate she looks confident, composed, and under control every at-bat, and her hard work is really starting to show in games. Her growth this year has been awesome to see and she continues to take major steps forward as a player.
“Freshman Ashlyn Curtier continues to impress in her first varsity season and just keeps finding ways to get the job done. Ashlyn is truly a student of the game, especially during games themselves. She has an advanced ability to recognize pitches, identify spin and speed, and make adjustments from pitch to pitch better than most players I’ve been around. That level of understanding is rare, especially for a freshman, and it is a huge reason why she has been so successful. Today she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Those results are a direct reflection of the approach, preparation, and in-game awareness she brings every single day. She continues to prove herself as a major contributor for us.
“Sophia Salamon also had a huge day offensively, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Sophia has been putting in a lot of work on her swing recently and it paid off in a big way today. It was great to see her hard work translate directly into game success. One of the biggest things for hitters is confidence, and today you could really see Sophia playing with confidence at the plate. When she trusts herself and stays aggressive, she can be a very dangerous hitter for us. We know she will continue to work hard and keep improving as we head toward the postseason.
“Margot McLean added a big two-run home run for us, providing another huge offensive spark, while Victoria Herzog also contributed with a strong two-hit performance. In the circle, Natalie Neubauer was once again steady and reliable for us. Natalie scattered seven hits, did not issue a single walk, and struck out six hitters. She continues to give us quality innings every time she takes the mound and competes from the first pitch to the last.”

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 13, PENNRIDGE 2 (6 innings)
Delaney Theis was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate to lead the Titans’ hit parade. All told, the Titans collected 21 hits in the abbreviated contest. They led 4-1 after one inning and took a 10-1 lead after a five-run fourth was highlighted by Maddie Motley’s leadoff home run.
Erin Ruddell doubled home a pair in the inning.
For the Rams, Madison Heinrich hit a solo home run.

Another great day for Alexis, who pitched to contact allowing the defense shine. It is awesome to see them succeed when they work so hard.”

NORTH PENN 11, SOUDERTON 1
The Knights have made a habit of winning championships.
That trend continued when they clinched sole possession of the SOL Colonial title with a resounding win over the Indians, who entered the game with just one loss and trailed the Knights by one game in the standings. For the Knights, it was their 10th SOL title in 11 years.
“The girls really wanted it, but what’s really funny is they’re so focused on game by game – after the game we were out in the outfield, and I said, ‘Girls, what are we?’” NP coach Rick Torresani said. “They looked at me and said – ‘We’re North Penn.’ I said, ‘But what did we just do?’ They said, ‘We won a game.’
“I said, ‘Do you know what this game meant? And they said, ‘No,’ and we had talked about it. It’s not that we didn’t talk about it, but they are so focused on a game-by-game thing, and their eyes aren’t set on just this. It’s a neat feeling to be coaching a team like that.”
Alana Battavio was in the middle of the action for the Knights, driving in the game’s first run and finishing 3-for-3 with a double.
Felicia Connolly was in complete command in the circle, scattering six hits and allowing one run (unearned). She struck out 13 and walked just one.

Key inning: Top of the second - Gabby Battavio grounded a single to left field to lead off the inning, and she scored when Alana Battavio roped a single to deep center. With two outs, an Indian miscue on a popup to the infield allowed Battavio to score from second, and the Knights had a lead they would not lose.

“We capitalize on other team’s mistakes. The kids were running (on the popup to the infield). They know anything can happen. Souderton didn’t give up, but Felicia (Connolly) was pitching really well again.
“We made some great defensive plays. Gabby Battavio ran back to the right field fence with two girls on. We were up, but she just made a tremendous catch. The kids were focused on playing well.”
Up next: North Penn will close out its regular season with a game against Central Bucks East Tuesday. Souderton will travel to Spring-Ford for a non-league game Friday.

The Bucks trailed 2-1 early but scored four unanswered runs to earn the win.
Kendall Kornuszko notched the complete game win, allowing just two hits and two runs.
The Bucks held a 9-2 advantage in hits.

Key inning: Top of fourth – The Bucks trailed 2-1 heading into the fourth when they plated a pair of runs, benefitting from two walks and an error. Hailey Worthington had the only hit in the inning – a single.
Central Bucks West coach Mike Daher:
--The game: Central Bucks West traveled up Route 202 to take on their crosstown rival Central Bucks East in a game where both teams are battling to get into the PIAA District 1 softball playoffs. Central Bucks West got on the board first by scoring a single run in the top of the first inning. Starting left fielder Kat James led off the game for the Bucks with a single to left field. After advancing to second on a passed ball, James would come around to score on a single up the middle off the bat of center fielder Jill Boyle.
But the Bucks lead was short lived as CB East also scored in their half of the first inning. The first two batters for the Patriots both reached base and came around to score to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning. Ashlyn Helmstetter led off the first inning by drawing a walk against the Central Bucks West starting pitcher Kendall Kornuszko. Her sister Hailey followed that up with a line drive double into the right center field gap. Ashlyn would cross the plate first when she scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of the East pitcher Sydney Hahn. The second run to score for East was later in the same inning when Hailey Helmstetter scored on a ground out RBI off the bat of Elena Bhatt. When the inning ended, East was leading West by a score of 2-1.
As it turned out they would be the only two runs that East would score on the day as pitcher Kendall Kornuszko would keep them off the scoreboard for the final six innings. Over those six innings, Kornuszko would only allow three more runners to reach base. In fact, Kornuszko retired fourteen of the last fifteen batters that she faced in this contest.
“CB West plated two more runs in their half of the fifth inning and they would be the only two that they would need for the rest of the game. Catcher Sam Hooven started off the fifth by drawing a walk against Sydney Hahn. Makala Burkholder also drew a walk bringing Hailey Worthington to the plate. Worthington delivered with an RBI single to score Kate Pisch, who was a curtesy runner for Sam Hooven. Burkholder scored the second run of the inning when East misplayed a bunt off the bat of Addie McMackin and when the top of the fourth inning ended CB West was up by a score of 3-2. CB West added another run in their half of the fifth inning when Marley Swain scored on a bases loaded walk to the Bucks second baseman Addie McMackin. The final run would score for the Bucks in the top of the seventh inning when Makala Burkholder lined a one out one strike pitch down the left field line for a double scoring Marley Swain who had reached base on a single to start the inning. The Bucks hitters had many timely hits leading to five runs scored, but the star of the game was clearly the Bucks starting pitcher Kendall Kornuszko. This was one of Kornuszko's strongest outings of the year. She went the full seven innings, giving up on two runs on two hits, while striking out five batters on the afternoon. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Kornuszko would only allow three runners in total to reach base over the next six innings. Kornuszko's pitching was helped by her catcher Sam Hooven who called an outstanding game behind the plate. The Bucks hitting stars were leadoff hitter Kat James who had a single and a run scored, Jill Boyle who contributed an RBI single. Marley Swain who had two hits on the afternoon and also scored two runs. Makala Burkholder had two hits, while scoring a run and driving in another. And finally, Hailey Worthington who contributed two hits and reached base all four times she came to the plate. Mike –Coach comments: “We have really been struggling of late trying to pick up some wins and to get into the District 1 playoffs so the win today could not have come at a better time. Sometimes when you are struggling to win games and to score runs as we have of late, you need a pitcher to take the ball and just go out and throw a great game to get you a win. That is exactly what Kendall Kornuszko did today. After the first inning she was almost unhittable for the rest of the game. After the first, she just settled down and threw great pitches the rest of the way. Sam Hooven was calling pitches for her and really did a terrific job in that role. I would also like to give credit to the East coach Steve Ryan. He has done an outstanding job with the East team. They are definitely a very competitive, well coached team. When Steve left our program last year to coach at East, I knew he would really help their program a lot.”

Kayla Garrison just keeps turning in one gem after another while rewriting the program record books. The senior pitcher threw her third no-hitter of the season – and fifth shutout –just 24 hours after surpassing her 800th career strikeout.
UD scored all the runs she would need with an unearned run in the third inning when – you guessed it – Garrison delivered a two-out RBI single that plated Maddie Small.
In the third inning, the Cards added a second run when Paige McKenna drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a successful squeeze bunt by Sarah O’Brien. Two runs in the sixth iced the win that sets up a showdown with Plymouth Whitemarsh Tuesday with the SOL Liberty Division title at stake.

Key inning: Bottom of sixth – The Cards all but sealed the Hatters’ fate, adding two runs to their 2-0 lead. Paige McKenna and Kate Brannigan hit back-to-back singles. They were set up in scoring position by a sac bunt by Sarah O’Brien. Both scored when Maddie Small hit a two-out double for the 4-0 final.

“This was an important win. We had three games in three days, and this time of year it’s tough. It’s AP testing, it’s the last week for the seniors. We were at Quakertown last night, and then we had to turn around – maybe we’re playing yesterday, maybe we’re not with the weather. Then today, same thing. Maybe we’re playing, but the field’s got water on it. Maybe we’re not. And then just come out and stay focused and play really good team softball. They’ve been doing a great job of it and trying to do a lot of the little things. We’re not perfect, but no team is, but what they’re doing exceptionally well - if we make a mistake, they’re letting it go and just focusing on the next opportunity to make something good happen, which is really important at this time of the year.”

“Sarah O’Brien played a role in three of our four runs. She was 1-for-1 with a hit in her first at bat, but her second at bat, she executed a really good squeeze bunt to score the second run, and then set up the two-run double by Maddie Small, so without her executing those to critical at bats, we don’t get those three runs in.”

The Colonials took care of business, opening up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looking back. A four-run second all but put the game out of reach. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Anna Powell – her first of two round trippers in the game.
Powel’s second home run – a solo shot - highlighted a three-run third that also included an RBI double by Lori Flannery.
All told, the Colonials had 14 hits in the abbreviated contest – three by Powel.
The hosts lone run came in the bottom of the third when Mia Lucke hit a solo home run to left field. Chaselyn Spera-Wright had two of Abington’s six hits.

Addison Strachan turned in a stellar outing for the Panthers, allowing four hits in the complete game shutout. She did not walk a batter and fanned nine.
The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first without collecting a hit, benefitting from a pair of errors and two free passes.
For the Lions, Annika Swanson had two hits. Maddie Menchhofer tossed a six-inning no-hitter, but the difference in this one was the miscues that cost the Panthers a pair of early runs.

UM’s seniors were celebrated prior to Thursday’s contest, and it was a sophomore – Taylor Pagano – making sure it was a good day for the seniors, contributing a pair of hits and four RBIs.
Delaney Stout was in command in the circle, scattering four hits and allowing two runs. She struck out 14 and walked only one.

--Seniors celebrated: “Tonight was a special night celebrating our senior players. They have all made an Impact on our program in individual ways that will not soon be forgotten. Senior players are Hailey Kramer, Emma Kramer, Hannah Sokoloski and Captain Melissa Torpey. Emma Kramer got injured before we even got started and has been unable to play, but she has shown up every game and almost every practice to support her teammates. Hailey Kramer had great at bats, with a stolen base and a run scored. Hannah Sokoloski got on base twice with two solid bunts and used her speed to get the extra bases. Melissa Torpey has been a consistent spark in our lineup with getting on base and scoring runs. These seniors will all be so missed.

Juliet Freer, Elizabeth Varghese and Mabel Klossner each had three hits to lead a potent Lions’ attack. Klossner led the Lions with four RBIs, which included a three-run home run in an eight-run fourth.
Klossner also picked up the win in the circle, allowing three hits and two runs while fanning nine.

Key inning: Top of third – With two outs, Danielle Wilson reached second on a two-base error and scored on Mabel Klossner’s RBI single. Dagny Mobley and Kaylee Harris (RBI) each added singles. A Cheltenham miscue allowed an additional run to score, and the Lions led 4-0 on their way to the mercy rule win.

Kyla Garrison added two more milestones to an already impressive resume.
The Cards’ senior ace recorded her 800th career strikeout in Wednesday’s win over Abington, and she also celebrated her 100th career hit, which was achieved on April 20 against Council Rock North.
Garrison fanned 15, walked none and did not allow an earned run in Wednesday’s win.
UD scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second when Paige McKenna, who drew a base on balls, scored on an Abington miscue.
The Cardinals added four more runs in the bottom of the third. Maddie Small led off with a single, and UD had two aboard as the result of an error on Dooley Hennessey’s sacrifice bunt. Garrison drove in both with a single to put the Cards on top 3-0. Back-to-back RBI doubles by McKenna - which plated courtesy runner Jolie Sheppard - and Kate Brannigan made it a 5-0 game.
Abington plated its lone run – unearned – in the top of the fourth when Grace Meehan delivered an RBI single.
