COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 8, UPPER DUBLIN 4
The Indians picked up a nice road win in Monday’s SOL crossover non-league contest, but the win – according to their coach - was secondary to the message.
Council Rock North coach John Englehardt:
--STRIKE OUT the STIGMA: “Heather Boyer runs an incredible program, but what she did before the game – she does something called STRIKE OUT the STIGMA against mental illness, and she gives every varsity team a swag bag and highlights mental health. I was blown away when I saw that.
“It’s an incredible idea, and it puts things in perspective. We won coming off a tough loss to Souderton where we did not play well, but I think the story and what Coach Boyer did was – it allowed me to have a conversation with my entire program when we got on the bus after the game. We talked about ‘Hey, you are softball players, but you are people, and you mean more to us as people than players. It can get competitive in that type of environment ,but know that the resources are out there. Our coaching staff, myself – we’re available. You are more important than just on a softball field or in the classroom.’
“You know these kids go through challenging times. I think this opened up an awesome conversation that I am really happy I had a chance to have with my program. Shoutout to Coach Boyer for that. To me, that is more important than any win or loss today. If there is one girl heard that message – the wins and losses go away, we care about the person rather than just what happens on the field.
“This allows coaches to have the conversation that I think we don’t have enough. These are kids, and while it is competitive, it is our job to support these kids and give these kids outlets to work through their stress and anxiety – not just on the field but in the classroom and out of the classroom in the community socially because it’s not easy being a high school kid, so I am very, very grateful that she sparked that conversation that I got to have with my team.”
As for the game, the two teams were deadlocked 2-2 after one inning. Rock North plated single runs in the third and fourth innings and led 4-2. A three-run fifth gave the Indians a 7-2 lead on their way to the win.

Key inning: Top of fifth – The Indians took a 4-2 lead into the fifth when they scored three runs. With one out, Zoe Hornstein was safe on an error. Chelsea Seiler followed with an RBI double. Maddie Reinhardt singled, and Alison Bodick’s single brought home a pair of runs.
Up next: Council Rock North will travel to Springfield Twp on Thursday, and Upper Dublin will host Wissahickon Tuesday.

BENSALEM 13, SPRINGFIELD TWP 2 (5 innings)
It had been a while between wins for the young Owls, who brought a welcome end to their losing streak with a convincing win in Monday’s abbreviated SOL crossover non-league game.
If there was any doubt about the outcome, those doubts were put to rest in a seven-run third inning that included four walks and a costly two-out error.
Freshman Avery Oliveti earned the complete game win in her first start of the season, allowing just three hits and one earned run.

Key inning: Bottom of third – The Owls staged a two-out rally that turned a 3-1 lead into a 10-1 advantage. With two outs, Dana Oliverio was safe on an error, Makenna Chaykowski singled, and Reece Colgan walked to load the bases. Three straight bases-loaded walks to Mackenzie Carney, Gina Oliverio and Veronica Pachucki brought home three more runs. A single by Abbie Krevolin plated a pair of runs, and two more runs scored on a single by Aubrey Merz.
Bensalem coach Dan Schram:
“We swung the bats well today. Avery Oliveti made her first start for the Owls. She pitched well. Abbie Krevolin and Gina Olivero were real clutch at the plate today.
“We had a busy week this week. Onto the next one.”

SOUDERTON 10, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 (5th inning)
Madi Mott tossed a four-hitter in Monday’s SOL crossover game, fanning nine in the abbreviated contest and walking a pair. Kiera Fadden’s two-run home run spotted the Indians a 2-0 lead after two batters, and they never looked back.
Kathryn Jones was a perfect 3-for-3 and only a home run separated her from hitting for the cycle. Emma Messmer also was 3-for-3 with a double and shared the team lead with Fadden with four RBIs.

Key inning: Bottom of first – Katie Straub drew a leadoff walk, and Kiera Fadden gave the Indians a 2-0 lead with one swing of the bat, smashing a home run to right field. With one out, Kathryn Jones tripled to right field, and with two outs Emma Messmer grounded a single to right field, plating Jones to put Souderton on top 3-0.

"Madi Mott did a great job of keeping batters off balance on her way to pitching a complete game shutout for us. She had good defense behind her, and we hit a lot of balls hard. Kiera Fadden and Emma Messmer led the team with four RBIs. Emma Messmer also led the team with three hits along with Kathryn Jones."
--Props: "Kiera Fadden has hit in several sports of our lineup this year, and the result has been the same. She hits for a high average and with power. Kiera has been steady for us this year, and her ability to move anywhere in the lineup has helped us to be more of a threat defensively."

The Lady Panthers erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the first on their way to the mercy rule non-league win.
Morgan Kelly’s four-hit day included three RBIs and led the Lady Panthers, who pounded out 17 hits in the abbreviated contest.

Key inning: Bottom of first – The Lady Panthers set the tone for Monday’s mercy rule win in a nine-run first inning. Morgan Kelly began a productive day out of the leadoff spot with her first of four hits – a double to center field. With one out, Isabella Nicosia brought home the game’s first run with an RBI double. Olivia Garrett drew a walk and stole second, and with two outs, Sadie Lewis drew a walk to load the bases for Kaya Lewis, whose double brought home a pair of runs. Karlei Ogden followed with an RBI single (and eventually scored of a steal of home), and Layla Brown walked to re-load the bases. Kelly – in her second at-bat of the inning – singled home a run, and then it was Naomi Wilson following with a single. Nicosia’s bases-loaded walk brought home the ninth run.

Alexis MacPhee had four hits, a double and three RBIs out of the leadoff spot to lead the Lions’ 18-hit attack. Maddie Menchoffer notched the complete game win in the circle, allowing one earned run

Key inning: Top of sixth – Leading 7-3, the Lions put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth inning. Ani Zucker led off the inning with a single, and one out later, Lily Seiner doubled. A single by Alyssa Ayling plated a run, and another run scored on a fielder’s choice. Alexis MacPhee’s double scored one run, and after a single by Molly Weber, Maddie Menchhofer singled home a pair. Jordyn MacAfee’s double scored a run, and Zucker’s second single of the inning plated a run that put the Lions on top 14-3.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 12, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 2 (5 innings)
Central Bucks West celebrated their Senior Day, honoring the team’s four graduating seniors - Jill Boyle, Kat James, Marley Swain, and Hailey Worthington - with a 12-2 victory over Archbishop Wood. All four seniors contributed in some way to help the Bucks team come away with an impressive victory that included the first varsity home run for Grace Davis.

Key inning: Bottom of second – Trailing 2-0, the Bucks scored three runs in the bottom of the second on their way to the mercy rule win. Hailey Worthington led off the inning and advanced to second on a pair of errors. With one out, Evi Cherry singled home Worthington. Kate Pisch laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Jill Boyle followed with an RBI double to center field. An error on Addie McMackin’s fly ball to the outfield allowed a third run to score. The Bucks had a lead they would not lose.
Central Bucks West coach Mike Daher:
--The game: After a scoreless first inning where the West pitcher Kendall Kornuszko was able to strand two runners on base to get out of the inning, Wood got on the board first with a two-run second inning to take a 2-0 lead into the home half of the second. The big hit in the inning was a run producing double off the bat of Lilliana Walters that scored Allison Siegfried for the first run of the game for Wood. Eventually Walters would come around and score the second run of the game on a fielder's choice RBI by Ellie Walicki.
Central Bucks West came back to score three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead over Wood, and it was a lead that they would never give back. The big hits in the second for the Bucks were an RBI single for Evi Cherry and an RBI double off the bat of senior center fielder Jill Boyle. Kate Pisch also contributed a well-executed sacrifice bunt to move a runner up and keep the inning alive. When the second inning ended CB West had taken a 3-2 lead.
West went on to duplicate those three runs in the next three innings. They scored three more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to close out the scoring and give the Bucks a 12 -2 win in a five-inning shortened game. The three-run third inning highlights included an RBI single off the bat of senior Hailey Worthington and an RBI double off the bat of catcher Evi Cherry. The three-run fourth inning for the Bucks saw Marley Swain lead off the inning with a single and another run producing hit off the bat of Hailey Worthington, which was an RBI double, and finally, the three-run fifth inning highlights included a leadoff off home run by sophomore Grace Davis. The well hit ball to left field easily cleared the left field fence for the first home run of Davis' career. Senior first baseman Marley Swain also chipped in a double in the inning, and senior Kat James ended the game with an RBI groundout that scored Isabella Fedor with the twelfth and final run for the Bucks.
--In the circle: Pitcher Kendall Kornuszko went the distance for the Bucks, picking up her fifth win of the season. On the day, Kornuszko threw five innings, gave up five hits, walked two batters, struck out one Wood hitter and only gave up two earned runs.
--Coach Daher comments: "It was a very good day for the West softball team and a great day for our four graduating seniors. I really felt like our team wanted to win for our seniors today, and they went out a played a solid game against a good team in Archbishop Wood.
“Wood was 9-2 on the season, so this was a good win for us today. Our four seniors - Jill Boyle, Kat James, Marley Swain and Hailey Worthington - have all set a very positive example for our younger players and have worked extremely hard at improving their own play. They are also all very positive leaders both on and off the field. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be able to coach the four seniors who have really been an important part of our program during their time at West. We still have a lot of the season left to play by when the four of them leave the West softball program, they will be missed."

WEST CHESTER EAST 2, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1 (11 innings)
It took 11 innings to determine a winner, and with the international tiebreaker in effect and a runner – Mia Jones - on second to open the inning, Caelyn Rodriguez led off the inning with a single that advanced Jones to third. The go-ahead run scored when Madison Rodriguez lofted a sac fly to left field.
The Colonials could not push a run across in the bottom of the inning and saw their baserunner on second thrown out attempting to go to third on a fielder’s choice.
Earlier, the Colonials evened the score 1-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Emily Dobrowolski delivered a two-out RBI single.
Wasted in the loss was the standout efforts in the circle of Liv Brodzinski and Emma Keely, who allowed just six hits
“Huge shout out to our pitchers - Liv Brodzinski (4 innings), Emma Keely (6+ innings) and Teagan Stanley - who did an amazing job holding a really solid WC East team to just six hits and 0 unearned runs through 11 innings of action, striking out eight and walking none,” PW coach Mike Perez said. “Most days that would be enough to win, but today we struggled to execute and get a timely hit when we really needed it, leaving 15 runners on base.”

“WC East was 10-1 coming, so we knew they’d be tough. And their pitcher, Ava Ferri, did a great job of not giving us too much to hit. We had chances to win the game, but we just didn’t make the necessary adjustments today to finish it out.
“We can’t have this loss stir too long, as we have to change our focus to CR South now.”
