Mel Mahler did it all in Monday’s SOL non-league crossover contest.
The Truman freshman not only tossed a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking six, but she also was the Tigers’ offensive hero with three hits – including a double – and three RBIs.
“Mel Mahler had another great outing – seven shutout innings with two hits and nine strikeouts,” Truman coach Jim McKeon said. “She also had three hits and three RBIs.
“Several others contributed to the win offensively, including Addy DaSilva, Skyler Mahler, Luciana Oliveras and Braelyn Horan.”
The Tigers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Braelyn Horan drew a leadoff walk and – one out later – Paige Stanley singled and stole second. With runners on second and third, Mel Mahler helped her own cause with a two-run double to left field.
For good measure, the Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Addison DeSilva singled and stole second. Skyler Maher stepped to the plate and lofted an RBI double to center field, giving the Tigers a 3-0 advantage. Horan followed with an RBI single, and after Emma Keeley singled, the Panthers recorded the second out. A walk to Oliveras loaded the bases for Mel Mahler, who delivered an RBI single to put the Tigers on top 5-0.

GARNET VALLEY 7, UPPER DUBLIN 4
The Jaguars broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning. The Cards – sparked by Ava Renye’s RBI triple – trimmed that lead to one in the top of the fifth. A four-run fifth gave the Jaguars a 7-2 lead on their way to the win.
