Delaney Stout is certainly looking as though she’s in midseason form, tossing her second shutout in as many outings in the season’s opening week. This one – a seven-inning masterpiece – saw the Vikings manage only three hits while Stout walked one and struck out 18 in a dazzling performance.
The Golden Bears got all the runs Stout would need in the top of the first when they plated a pair. Layla Knecht lined a leadoff single to right field and stole second and third. Stout helped her own cause with a two-out RBI single for a run that turned out to be the game-winner. A walk to Jordyn Gibbs set the stage for an RBI single by Taylor Pagano that put the Bears on top 2-0.
If Stout needed insurance, the Bears gave it to her with a three-run third that was highlighted by singles from Stout and Brooklyn Kavanagh (RBI), UM also benefitted two walks and a Upper Merion miscue.
In the fourth inning, Sofia Magagna led off the inning with a double, and courtesy runner Haley Moore scored on a groundout by Claire Walton.

--The game: “We wanted to come out with aggressive at-bats the first inning, and Layla Knecht started us off with a hard hit single on the first pitch. She has a great energy as a leadoff that sparks our lineup.
“Delaney Stout had an excellent start to the season with back-to-back shutouts and throwing 18 strikeouts. Delaney has put in a lot of work in the offseason and is throwing even stronger than last year.
“As coaches, we are very pleased with the start of the season. We have a real young team, and they are all working hard towards a winning season. It's an exceptional group and we are excited to see what they are going to achieve over the next couple of years.”
Up next: Upper Moreland will host Phoenixville in a non-league game Friday.

NESHAMINY 5, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1
Addie Pennisi earned the complete game win, scattering three hits and allowing one run in a strong outing in the circle .
The Redskins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first when – after Ellie Miller drew a leadoff walk – Jill Rickards ripped a two-run home run to center field.
The Vikings scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Neshaminy answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Riley McCafferty led off the inning with a line drive double to left. Highlights of the inning also included RBI singles by Miller and Pennisi as well as a steal of home by Miller that put the Vikings on top 5-1.

--The game: “Today was a great team win. We all feel like we didn’t put our best foot forward during our first game, and we were ready to make up for that today. Addie Pennisi had a great day today on the mound, and at the plate as well. Kendall McCafferty had a pair of hits including a triple, and Jill Rickards had her third home run of the season, with another 2 balls she hit caught on the fence. Our defense today was spectacular, especially in the outfield. All three outfielders made phenomenal plays. I am really excited about the energy we brought into the game and hope we keep that up moving forward!”
Up next: Neshaminy will host Conwell-Egan in a non-league game Saturday (10am).

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 7, BOYERTOWN 5
After the Bears put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first, the Colonials scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. A two-run single by Teagan Stanley highlighted the inning.
An RBI double by Liv Brodzinski in the third inning upped the Colonials’ lead to 4-2, and a three-run fourth put the Colonials on top 7-2. Joslyn Perez lofted an RBI double to right field, and Brodzinski had an RBI single.
The Bears rallied to make things interesting, pulling to within three with two runs in the fifth. They added a run in the top of seventh, but Emma Keely slammed the door on their comeback by collecting the game’s final two outs

Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez:
--The game: “Huge shout out to our Colonial School District grounds crew for getting the field ready for us to play. Not the greatest conditions, but we were extremely happy to be outside and on our field. It’s been such a hard beginning part of the season with all this crazy weather. We spent a lot of time practicing indoors in the gym, and the girls were getting antsy to get outside.
“Boyertown is always a solid team and I knew that would be a tough start to our season, but I’m proud of our girls for the way they came out today and the way they hung in there for the whole game.
“We were a little shaky early on, with a leadoff walk and an error in the top of the first leading to two runs, but I like that our girls answered back in the bottom of the first to score three runs of our own.”
--Props: “Sophomore pitcher Liv Brodzinski had a great game, both in the circle and in the box. She earned the win, pitching 6.2 innings vs a tough lineup. In this cold weather, it’s tough to grip the ball which affects your spins. But she did a nice job battling through it. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs, making solid contact all day to help herself out.
“Senior third baseman Anna Powel also had a nice day at the plate, reaching base all four times with some really good at-bats, and scoring two runs.
“I also want to shout out senior pitcher Emma Keely, who came in the top the seventh with one out and the game tying run at the plate and was able to get through a dangerous middle of the lineup for the save. Fox, Marthias and Sobeck are as good a 3-4-5 as you’ll find in District 1, and Emma did a great job navigating them in a stressful spot.”

Hoover Invitational (Alabama)
The Knights opened their season with a successful spring break trip to Alabama where they faced some of the state’s top teams in a pair of scrimmages and two non-league games.
Scrimmage results:
-North Penn 6, Hoover 4: Hoover was the 2024 7A State Champion and 2025 runner-up. They are currently ranked No. 2 in 7A and 10th overall in Alabama.
- North Penn 5, Athens H.S. 5: Athens was the 2024 6A State Champion and a 2025 Final Four finisher. They are currently ranked 7th in 6A.
Non-league games
NORTH PENN 1, HELENA 0
Felicia Connelly notched the complete game win, allowing only one hit and recording nine strikeouts. Tallie Smink provided the game-winning hit, scoring Gidget Brigidi, who singled and stole second. Helena was the 2025 6A State Champion and is currently ranked fifth overall in the state.
NORTH PENN 10, WEST BLOCTON 4
Brandi Groarke was the winning pitcher, and freshman Rylie Cheeseman led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
North Penn coach Rick Torresani:
“We travel to Alabama to play in the best tournament in their state. After facing top-tier competition last year, we returned this year to play three former state champions. Regardless of the score, these games are designed to prepare us to reach our goals. Alabama High School softball is a different level of softball with many signed SEC players. Finishing this trip 3-0-1 provides us with great momentum as we head into the opening of our regular season in PA.
