The visiting Indians got off to a strong start in Monday’s road win when Lily Heron – using an Aidia Manners assist on a corner - found the back of the net just over a minute into the SOL crossover game.
With six minutes remaining in the opening half, Manners connected on an unassisted goal to send the Indians into the intermission with a 2-0 advantage.
Pennsbury cut Souderton’s lead in half with a goal less than a minute into the second half, but the Indians had an immediate response with Heron scoring her second goal of the game less than a minute later for a 3-1 lead that stood until the final whistle.

--The game: “After a quick goal off of a corner, I felt we got a bit too comfortable and had some low energy in the first half. It was not our cleanest soccer.
“We started off slow the second half, but I felt we responded well after a quick Pennsbury goal. We had to work as a group to overcome some frustration, but I do think we were able to finish the game with a lot of momentum and were forced to learn how to stay composed mentally.
“Overall, for the second game of the season, our team had many positive moments to build on and pushed through to come out with a win to start a three-game week.”
Up next: Souderton will host Central Bucks East on Wednesday, and Pennsbury will travel to Neshaminy for a battle of the neighboring rivals.

SPRINGFIELD TWP 3. WISSAHICKON 1
The Spartans picked up their second win in as many games, this time scoring three goals on the heels of their four-goal explosion in Friday’s shutout win over Conwell-Egan.
But not to be overlooked in the Spartans’ strong start is the standout play of Olivia Gatewood in goal.
“ It’s Olivia Gatewood’s time to shine.,” Spartans’ coach Chris Tomarelli said. “The senior goalkeeper and three-year starter for the Spartans - Olivia has been outstanding to start the season. A recent commit to Shippensburg University, she continues to show exactly why she is one of the best
“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Olivia for 10 years at the club level, and I can’t tell you how proud I am of her. A strong leader off the field, a hard worker in the classroom, and one heck of a soccer player.
“In today’s 3-1 win over Wissahickon, Olivia was outstanding once again, including stopping a PK — the icing on the cake.”
While Gatewood excelled in goal, Karter Brady was working her magic on attack. The sophomore had a pair of goals – her second and third of the young season - to lead the Spartans. Liz Hanushchak also connected on a goal for the Spartans.
“Karter Brady had two more goals as the sophomore continues right where she left off last year while Liz Hanushchak added a shot from about 25 yards out that hit the post and found the back of the net,” Tomarelli said. “Wissahickon is a very talented team, and I’m happy to pick up another quality win.
“All 20 girls saw action today as we continue to get a little better each game.”
Up next: Springfield Twp will host William Tennent for Wednesday’s SOL opener, and Wissahickon will host Abington Wednesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1, RADNOR 0
A goal by Mia Forney in the final minute of the opening half was all the Patriots needed to defeat the defending District 1 3A champion Raptors. Kiera Sleicher was credited with the assist on the set piece goal.
“First half, we were probably more productive in chance creation, and Mia's goal came at an absolute critical time right before the end of the half,” East coach Jake Nesteruk said. “On our seventh corner of the half, Kiera dropped a great ball, and Mia just found an open pocket and made great contact with her head to give us the lead.”

--The game: “Radnor is always a good test for us, and I thought both teams competed well for this one. Overall, a little bit of a different story for us today compared to the Henderson match. I don't think we were as sharp in possession today as we needed to be, but we got the result over the line despite not being at our best.
“A quick turnaround for us in a busy week as we open up conference play against a good Soudy side on Wednesday,”
--Props: “I thought we got really good efforts across the midfield, particularly from Kiera Sleicher and Ava Mignon and a very good spell of composure and consistency from Delaney Ralph coming into this game. How we defend from front to back continues to be really strong, and credit to Cece Hayes, Addie Langlois, Ella Roumy, Kailyn Adenaike and the vocal leadership of our keeper Maddie Thompson for what they've done across the backline.
“It's early, but it usually takes us a little longer to figure out that side of the game, and these kids have stepped in and done an incredible job thus far.”

NORTH PENN 3, GARNET VALLEY 2
The Knights found themselves on the short end of a 1-0 halftime score after the visiting Jaguars scored on a long shot that went far post upper corner.
But the second half belonged to the Knights, who came roaring back. Annaliese Marnien – who was taken down in the box – connected on a penalty kick to knot the score, and then it was Madeline Morrow scoring to give the Knights their first lead.
Garnet Valley answered with the equalizer, but the Knights would not be denied. Five minutes later, Marnien connected on a goal that stood as the game-winner, using a Lani Bachmann assist.
“It was a really great comeback win against a strong Garnett Valley team,” North Penn coach Mike Rio said. “Proud of the way we fought back, and the girls maintained a lot of pressure to see the game over the finish line.
“It was a really excellent bounce-back performance after a tough loss to open the season against Spring-Ford.”

--The game: “We came out in the second half and scored the first after Madeline Morrow fed Annaliese Marnien, who was taken down in the box. Annaliese then converted the PK. About five minutes later, Bailee Charles beat a defender and then played a through ball to Madeline Morrow, and she put it under the cross bar.
“Garnet Valley tied it up on another great shot from range, and five minutes later, we answered when Lani Bachmann played Annaliese, who slotted a ball past the keeper.”
Up next: North Penn will host Pennridge in the SOL opener for both teams on Wednesday (7pm).

Natalie Walter put the visiting Lady Rams on the scoreboard in the opening half of Monday’s non-league game, using an assist from Mikayla Loux. The Rams took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Gabriella Howley picked up her second and third goals of the young season, connecting on a pair of second-half goals to give Pennridge its second victory in as many games.

FAITH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 5, HARRY S TRUMAN 1
Faith Christian looked every bit the part of the defending PIAA 1A champions, opening up a 4-0 halftime lead on its way to the non-league win.
“The Tigers have a tough non-conference schedule as it is, having already faced another defending State Champion in the preseason (St. Huberts) and a really good CB West team on Friday,” Truman coach Brian Gilbert said.
Truman broke up their visitor’s shutout bid when Gwen Marston connected on her first goal of the season with an assist from Natalie Klimowicz. The Tigers played FCA to a 1-1 draw in the second half.
Truman keeper Dani Gilbert had a busy day between the pipes, turning away 23 shots.

--The game: “Just before the opening tap, the Tigers learned they would be without freshman center midfielder Lily Hadfield., and then three minutes into the game, Truman took another blow, losing starting center midfielder freshman Brennan Gilbert to an injury.
“The Tigers found themselves down four goals at the half, but they didn’t give up. Truman again relied on their captains and upperclassmen to lead by example. Junior co-captain Gwen Marston provided some insight into what she was seeing during the first half and asked to move from striker to right-mid. Marston said she felt she could beat the other team down the right side. Natalie Klimowicz, another junior co-captain, stepped up to address the girls at the half and kept them positive and motivated. Then the girls went out and delivered.
“Within the first 30 seconds of the second half, Hadley Rizzo intercepted a pass and redirected into the center to Klimowicz. Klimowicz lofted a chip pass between the Faith Christian defenders. Marston, making a run from the right, split the defenders down the middle and won the foot race to the ball. The keeper came out to challenge, however, she had no chance as Marston ripped a shot into the back of the net. Marston, who scored three goals in each of her freshman and sophomore campaigns, recorded Truman’s first regular season goal for the second consecutive season.
“Faith Christian would eventually score again, and the game would end in a 5-1 Faith Christian win, but for Truman, to come out in the second half and stay even with them felt like a moral victory for the team.”
--Coach’s take: “I was very proud of the effort and their ‘I got you’ mentality. Isabella Romer, the Tiger’s third junior co-captain played the entire game at center fullback and freshman Maddie Egan played 70 minutes, rotating from left mid, to right mid, to center mid and recorded a shot on goal.
“The fourth co-captain, senior Lila Giunta, completed physical therapy and worked hard all offseason to return from knee surgery that ended her junior year. Each game she has been able to increase her minutes played and today looked more aggressive going after the ball.
“Senior midfielder Julianna Aviles played a strong second half on the left side to help keep Faith Christian off the scoreboard.”
--Tiger Player of the Game: “It’s easy to just list the goal scorer as the player of the game, but my Tiger Player of the Game goes to Senior Azra Biyik. In just her second year of soccer, Azra is still learning the game, but she listens and when she takes the field, she implements what she has been told. She has been primarily used as an outside midfielder and forward and has never practiced or played center midfield. After losing two center midfielders at the start of the game, the team needed a player to fill that void and log a lot of minutes. Azra stepped up and was that player. She covered her mark, broke up plays defensively and made outlet passes to open teammates. You won’t find her name on the score log, but her hard work assured her fallen teammates, ‘I got you.’”
