Only two weeks have elapsed in the 2026 football season, but that’s all it’s taken for the Colonials to serve notice that they are a force to be reckoned with. One week after edging perennial district power Coatesville, the Colonials scored 55 points in a no-doubt-about-it win over Kennett.
“We did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage up front,” PW coach Dan Chang said. “We have a bunch of guys who scored tonight, and the ability for us to kind of move the ball around and keep teams guessing is a big advantage for us.
“We just tried to continue to methodically hold onto the ball and move the ball with the O-line playing well. Cole Reilly at quarterback was making great decisions, running the ball, throwing the ball. It just started rolling for us on offense, and then the defense settled down after the first quarter and really started to control what they were able to do, and I thought it just got momentum rolling in our favor.”
While two weeks is a small sample size, the Colonials’ strong start to the season – according to the PW coach - can be attributed to the leadership of the team’s senior class.
“We’re happy with the results, and obviously, we have a lot more work to do to continue to get better, but I think it comes down to the strength of our senior class,” Chang said. “These guys as leaders, these guys as examples and role models for everyone else on the team. They know how to win. They know what it takes – their attitude is never quit. They play together, and it’s something that’s really fun to watch. I knew the kind of group the senior class coming in was, so although I’m not surprised, I think they’ve exceeded what I expected from them, which is always nice to see.”
After one quarter, the score was deadlocked at seven apiece with PW’s score coming late in the frame when Cole Reilly connected with Aiden Orensky for a 32-yard touchdown.
The scoring pace picked up considerably in the second quarter – at least it did for the Colonials, who put 21 points on the board to go into halftime with a 28-13 advantage.
Scoring in the quarter included a 72-yard touchdown run by Michael Giangiulio , Cole Reilly connecting with Max Peterson on a 10-yard touchdown, and Reilly racing 45 yards for the touchdown to close out the half with PW on top 28-13.
In the opening half, the two teams combined for more than 400 yards of total offense.
The points kept coming for the Colonials in the second half. Giangiulio’s three-yard touchdown run got the ball rolling. Giangiulio’s third rushing touchdown – this one for four yards - gave the Colonials a 42-21 lead. A 43-yard Reilly to Peterson connection for a touchdown gave PW a 49-18 lead with 18 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
An Orensky 17-yard TD run in the fourth quarter gave PW its final margin of victory.
Chang lauded the efforts of his entire team but took a moment to credit several individuals.
“Colin Calvanese is typically our guard, but he was hurt this week, and Chris Robinson stepped in for him, and I thought he did a nice job,” the Colonials’ coach said. “Mike Giangiulio had three touchdowns rushing, Cole (Reilly) threw for three – two to Max Peterson and one to Aiden Orensky. Cole ran himself in one as well, and Aiden had another rushing touchdown.
“I just think it was just all around us being able to spread it out.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh will host Central Bucks South Thursday in a non-league SOL crossover contest.
