NESHAMINY 3, WISSAHICKON 2
Neshaminy coach Jamie Pinto had to wonder how her team would respond after falling 7-0 to a Central Bucks West squad that is second only to undefeated Methacton in the District 1 3A rankings. She had to like what she saw in Wednesday’s come-from-behind win over the Trojans, who took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
“I even think with them being ahead – I still thought we were playing pretty well in the first half,” Pinto said. “I thought it was key for us to come out strong in the beginning, and after not scoring in the last game – coming out strong and being able to finish, that was good.
“At halftime, we talked about some adjustments that needed to be made. The girls came out, and they stepped up even more. Wissahickon is pretty physical, and we matched that pretty well and were winning 50-50 balls even better in the second half. We were kind of controlling the second half. We had some good opportunities.”
Mia Brooks, who had a hand in all three Neshaminy goals, scored the equalizer just over two minutes into the third quarter, turning a Hailey Wert pass during corner play into a goal.
Late in the third quarter, the Redskins once again capitalized on a corner, this time it was Brooks feeding Ellie Miller for a goal that stood as the game-winner.
Earlier, Brooks turned a Hailey Wert pass on a corner into the game’s first goal. Wissahickon answered with back-to-back goals in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 2-1 lead. Carly Lehman scored the first with an assist from Sam Farno, and Regan Szczepkowicz also turned a pass from Farno into the second.

--On the bounce-back win: “I think this was huge. Nobody likes to lose, and we don’t like to lose badly – not that we didn’t play well, but the score was a killer. It could have gone one of two ways. One, it could have been – ‘We didn’t play very well or the score wasn’t very good,’ and we could have folded from there. Instead, we were able to pick it up, work hard and come back and get a win. It was a non-league win, which is always nice to get.”
--Props: “Our defense has consistently led the team, being able to step up strong from the back and to help start the offense. Goalie Lexi Tarapchak played well; Taylor Tenaglia, Reese Merrill and Hailey Wert all did a nice job stepping up. Ellie Miller worked hard today doing a nice job in the middle of the field and was able to score off a corner. Mia Brooks has really been working hard, and it continued today—she has been doing a good job at cutting back to receive the ball and then generating offense with her skill, creating corners and getting shots off. We worked hard today as a team, and it showed— I’m proud of how we were able to come back after a tough loss.”

--On the game: “We faced another challenging matchup, but our team competed with the intent to play a full 60 minutes and gained valuable experience to carry into conference play next week. We opened the game with strong energy and will continue working on finishing with the same intensity.
--Props: “I am especially proud of our captain, Julia Wells, for her leadership and strong presence in the center. She consistently demonstrated the ability to beat players and connect with teammates, setting a great example for the group.”

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 2
The Bucks continued to roll through the SOL, opening up a 5-0 lead on their way to the win in Wednesday’s crossover game against the Lions. They put three goals on the board in the first quarter – the first two assisted by Ellie Tweddale with Claire Demmer and Aida Ierubino each scoring a goal. Lucy Smith’s unassisted goal gave the Bucks a 3-0 lead after one quarter.
Mac West and Bree Rossi each scored their first varsity goals – West in the second quarter with an assist from Smith, and Rossi in the third quarter assisted by Evelyn Knight.
The Lions scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter – the first by Olivia Conte and the second by Gabi Solis.

Central Bucks West coach Lori Ierubino: “West had a well-earned win against a disciplined, unyielding New Hope-Solebury team. Fearing the weather would end the game early, we wanted to come out and gain a solid lead. Ellie Tweddale was pivotal in our first three goals in the first quarter. The fun came later in the game when as a team we worked together to get new players on the board - senior Mac West and junior Bree Rossi had their first varsity goals. And our starting goalie Kendra Pitts was able to play as a field player for the fourth quarter. New Hope thwarted our scoring efforts with very effective corner defense and two defensive saves. We have a quick turnaround with another game tomorrow night against Parkland.”

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, UPPER MORELAND 1
The Patriots celebrated Senior Night with a win. The team’s 12 seniors included Meg Fahey, Morgan Harrington, Jenna Olanday, Katie Szczypiorski, Brynn Williamson, Sydney Lafferty, Emma Penecale, Sophia Gerken, and Camryn Puhalla, Addison Firth, and manager Caroline Roland.
“Tonight’s Senior Night win was absolutely fantastic,” CB East coach Emma Rosenthal said. “All the seniors played the entire game and really worked well together to ensure the win. I am so proud of how they played tonight and all they accomplished these four years.”
The Patriots – thanks to goals by Emma Penecale and Sydney Lafferty – took a 2-0 lead into halftime. UM cut that lead in half when Taylor Pagano tipped in a shot by Olivia Torres. The Patriots got that goal back late in the third quarter when Sophia Gerken scored an unassisted goal.

Upper Moreland coach Pam Remmey:
--On the game: “We went to CB East for their senior recognition day. It is always an interesting game because it is our SOL ‘crossover game,’ based on how each team finishes in their division the previous season. But our division is the ‘smaller schools,’ and CB East is in with the ‘bigger schools.’ But we enjoy playing CB East to take the challenge. Several more connections as all of (my) kids played multiple sports for East and with Coach Emma Rosenthal, and I coached Emma in about fourth or fifth grade - she was a firecracker! So, we have a friendly camaraderie off the field, but on the field - it is all-out competition!
“East started out very psyched up for their senior day and played very aggressively. Then as the game went on, we got more used to the level of play and became more competitive.
“After a productive half time talk where players gained confidence, UM came out strong for the second half. The attack with Soph Riehle, MJ Reilly, Olivia Torres and Melissa Torpey started connecting on passing and solid redefending.
Utilizing the offensive pressure, UM forced a corner in the third quarter. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ella Gould inserted the ball to Olivia Torres who ripped a shot that was tipped up and in by Taylor Pagano.
“As the game continued, midfielders Bridget Hess, Hannah Gardner and Mia Hood played solidly as connectors to the attack.”
--Props: “Addi Gans led our defense and won our game ball for her excellent defensive play. Her tackles were on, her free hits were strong, and she stepped up into space well to cut off passes. The defensive unit including Gans, Abby Kelly, Reese Purcell and Lyla Soleau played strong under East’s pressure. East’s drives were very hard and fast, but we hung in there and Purcell had an amazing defensive save on a hard shot by East in the second half. UM's athletic goalie Tierney Hogan put in another strong performance with 13 saves in the first half when East was pressuring and adding another six saves in the second half for a total of 19 saves.”

The Falcons hosted Upper Dublin under dark, threatening skies that seemed to cast an aura of mystery across the field. The mystery did not end there. Despite having faced the Cardinals just last season (PHS won 2-1 in OT), Pennsbury knew little about this team and planned to just play the game the way they know how. The turf was wet causing the ball to respond a bit different than usual, but the Falcons adjusted to that and quickly took control of possession in the first quarter.
"Our passing was strong as we connected and shared the ball all over the field, but we were getting pulled out of position for some reason and it held us back from succeeding a little," explained head coach, Traci Curtis.
It took the orange and black four minutes to find their way onto the scoreboard with a feed into the circle from Abby Iacona and a great clean up off pads, by Ryan Burdette making it a 1-0 game early on. The rest of the quarter was back and forth with neither team cashing in on opportunities in the circle.
"It was a frustrating start as we did not capitalize on our possessions and were missing the fire that we typically have," shared Curtis.
It was still a 1-0 game at the start of the second quarter, but that did not last long as PHS found their groove and connected on goal number two 5 minutes after the starting whistle.
"After a beautiful, patient passing combo, Regan Rodriguez placed a perfect cross pass to Abby Iacona waiting at the stroke. Iacona one timed it past the Cardinal's goalie with precision and strength," said Coach Curtis.
The score was 2-0, but you could feel Pennsbury's temperature rising and wanting more. But they didn't get more until there were 0.4 seconds left in the second quarter. Abby Iacona struck again unassisted off the pads, stretching the lead to 3-0 taking them into halftime.
And then the rains came like cats and dogs, but it did not slow the Falcons who notched another goal four minutes into the soggy third quarter.
"Cailyn Reilly sent a beautifully placed aerial upfield, which started the offensive push in the middle then leading out to Rodriguez who fed it to the post where Allie Fouss was waiting with great positioning and deflected it in. The Falcons led 4-0 with a lot of hockey left to play, but that goal stood alone in the third quarter. And the rains kept falling.
The final 15 minutes was rainy off and on, but the orange and black were not finished and continued to work together as a solid unit to possess with patience and make great passing decisions. Halfway through the quarter, sophomore, Lily Fanini assisted Ryan Burdette and the Falcons took a five- goal lead. Two minutes later, Pennsbury earned a penalty corner and tallied their sixth goal when Abby Anderer assisted Nandi Ntshalintshali on a really well executed low angle, deflection from the baseline.
"Although it was not the corner play we called, it was great to see them get creative and finish strong in the moment," said Curtis. "Upper Dublin had really great hits throughout the entire game - very powerful, and when they connected they pressured us pretty well.
"It was another awesome team win with contributions from everyone across the board. Goalies, Abby McCole and Amelia Fernades shared the shut out."
This win puts PHS at 7-1 overall.

In a game that was halted after three quarters because of lightening, six different players contributed goals. It was the fifth straight shutout for PW’s defense.

PW had some great passing and individual 1v1 skills throughout the game, but unfortunately only got to play three quarters due to lightning."

A goal by Cissy Lewis (Kylie Barwis assist) spotted the Knights a 1-0 lead after one quarter. Goals by Paige Shearer and Barwis sent the Knights into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Cara Albano scored a single goal and Maya McKay scored a pair of goals. In the fourth quarter, Kelly Woolaver put her name in the scorebook with a goal. Brooke Goewey had the assists.
"It was a great team effort with everyone contributing to the win today,” NP coach Shannon McCracken said.

We have one more crossover game next Monday against Abington and then we will get back to our league again.”

SOUDERTON 2, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
It’s a rare day when coaches from both sides are happy with their team’s performance, but that was pretty much the case after Tuesday’s evenly matched division contest. While Souderton coach Sue Casciato called her team’s performance its best in two or three games, CB East coach Emma Rosenthal said it was a ‘fun loss.’
That sort of thing can only happen when it’s a good game by both sides, and Tuesday’s game was just that.
Take away a six-minute stretch in the second quarter, and the two teams could very well have been deadlocked.
As it was, the Indians put a pair of goals on the board in the second quarter. Hannah Cornes turned a Gianna Bocchino pass into a goal that stood as the game-winner, and just over five minutes later, Lydia Lynch tacked on an insurance goal assisted by Aubrie Weismantel.
Neither team scored in the rest of the way, and that 2-0 lead stood.
Both goalies had busy days in the cage with Souderton’s Nina Coll turning away all nine shots she faced in the shutout win while CB East’s Camryn Puhalla was credited with 10 saves. Souderton’s Hannah Cornes also was credited with a defensive stop in a win that – according to Casciato – was led by the team’s two senior Hannahs (Cornes and Fuente).

--On the game: “I thought we played better hockey today than we have in the last two or three games. Which was fortunate, as CB East was right with us, especially in the second half. All of our conference games thus far have been very tough, competitive contests...and today was no different. We controlled the tempo and the ball in the first half but struggled to maintain possession in the second half. Some of that could certainly be attributed to CB East, as they really picked up their intensity in the third and fourth quarters.”
--Props: “Our two senior Hannahs (Fuente and Cornes) led the way today, as both played strong games endline to endline.”
Central Bucks East coach Emma Rosenthal:
--On the game: “It’s weird to say that today was a fun loss, but it was. The team was fully connected and hungry in the second half. We got off to an extremely slow start, and unfortunately, that was our downfall. Two key members of the team were out with injuries today, so we really needed to make some adjustments.”
--Props: “Harper Tomlinson stepped up big on defense for us today and we had some really great plays connecting the defense to the midfield. Camryn Puhalla had 10 saves in goal.”

BENSALEM 2, ABINGTON 1

Another great day for hockey in the Northeast. The weather has been delightful, but the Bensalem offense has been somewhat timid in the first half of the season thus far. Our defense has been really holding up supported by our goalkeeper, Hailey Fricke, through the first nine contests of this season. We were just not able to find the right combinations to get our offense going. So, in comes an Abington team that beat us last year on their home turf 4-0, with a star on their team in Maeve Link, and the game followed the same story as it had early on this year. Abington took a 1-0 lead with a minute to go in the first half. The game was pretty much up and down on both ends in the first half, and the Ghosts were the only team to touch the back of the net.
The score remained the same until 1:25 in the third when Reese Sayers had a free hit outside their attacking 25, found freshman Leah Vorgity on the right side, who slid the ball over to the left post where there was a waiting senior, Abby Kazimer, to tie the game up at one. Then, with just 8:36 remaining in the game, Veronica Lennon, playing in the game with an injured hand, found a marked Mollie Reilly in the circle and delivered one to the back of the board to make it a 2-1 game. Veronica has been so steady in the middle of the field and was solid again today with a hand that was cut open in yesterday's game against Central Bucks South. Abington did not stop their pursuit of victory, but the final horn sounded to end the very tense game.
“We moved a lot of people around today to find the right combination of offense, we're still looking for it, but, I think, we're finally heading in the right direction,” Bensalem coach Gary Kubik said. “All round good effort from everyone, the offense is working hard, just not getting paid off right now, the midfield has been solid through the first ten games, and the defense is impressing me more and more each day.”
Goalkeeper Hailey Fricke lowered her goals-against average down to an even 2.00.
The Outstanding Owl Award goes to sophomore Reese Sayers for starting this offense off today, she's been playing very sound through her first ten games with varsity.
Up next: Bensalem will host Hatboro-Horsham on Friday, and Abington will host Council Rock South Friday.
