CB South and West Chester Henderson battled to a 1-1 draw as the team's traded goals in the first half and played to a stalemate in the second.

--The game: “It's difficult to open the season with back-to-back games against
two high level high school programs, but we were honored to be invited back to the Henderson Kickoff Classic.
“Tonight we found ourselves in a situation that we had to lean on several sophomores (Max Vollman, Maks Deliavskyi, Lakshya Agnihotri, Collin Howley and Nate Vollman) and it was a baptism by fire for them logging significant minutes in an intense match. They stepped up and they proved that they are ready.
“Of course, our underclassmen were supported by our star senior captains Jackson Tait and Tyler Jaskelewicz and another senior Devyn Ramos Salazar. When we went down by a goal, there was no panic, only belief. And when Gavin Medid delivered a ball into the box, it was Jackson Tait (who else) that beat all the Henderson defenders and headed the ball into the goal to tie the match. Tait continued to be dangerous all night, Ramos did a lot of the dirty work as he covered every blade of the turf, and TJ was our man of the match. His soccer IQ is off the charts as he constantly picked off Henderson's passes and put us on the counter attack.”

Hatboro-Horsham 4, Marple Newtown 0
Hatboro-Horsham applied the pressure early and never let up, scoring twice in each half on the way to a 4-0 victory over Marple Newtown.
The Hatters took the lead in the eighth minute when pressure from senior Lucas Smith resulted in a Marple Newtown own goal. Junior Lucas Rodriguez doubled the advantage nine minutes later off an assist from Finn Marsden. Senior Evan Paone converted a pair of penalty kicks in the second half, while goalkeeper Owen Fagan made three saves to record his first shutout of the season.

Hatboro-Horsham coach Kyle McGrath: “I want to thank my assistant coaches Tim Enge and Chris Hurrell for taking the reins today. I was moving my fiancée’s son into college for his freshman year and was unable to attend the game. They both do so much for our program and I’m so happy they led the varsity and JV teams to wins today!”

—Fast start: “The boys came out strong applying the pressure early after yesterday’s slow start. Junior Lucas Rodriguez was a threat every time he touched the ball, while senior Evan Paone created many chances.
“Marple-Newtown had trouble controlling our long balls and our guys kept pressure on their back line, which resulted in the own goal which opened the scoring after pressure from senior Lucas Smith.
“Lucas Rodriguez scored the second goal from a Finn Marsden assist as well as drawing both penalty kicks that Evan Paone calmly finished.”
—Defense and shutout: “In the back, Nicky Bellizzie and Connor Colletto led a strong line that barely let them have a touch in our box. Owen Fagan bounced back to secure his first shutout of the season.”

Central Bucks East 1, Unionville 1
Central Bucks East bounced back from a difficult season opener with a much stronger all-around performance, battling Unionville to a bounce-back 1-1 tie.
“It was just a million times better than yesterday,” East coach Josh Isaacsohn said. “A very dramatic improvement in a short amount of time for a young, new squad. I think yesterday kind of fired them up for today a little bit, too.
“We’re mostly reloaded and have a lot of new guys in new positions. I’m not thrilled with a tie, but happy that with a couple toe pokes or something, it could have been a win.”
Dustin Weber put the Patriots in front with an unassisted goal in the 24th minute, giving East a 1-0 halftime lead. They had several opportunities to extend their advantage, but Unionville stayed within striking distance and scored the equalizer with 13 minutes remaining.

—The response: “After a rough game yesterday and a rough result, the boys bounced back fairly well. All around, just a much better full-team effort and full-game effort. We actually probably left three goals out there that were just bouncing on the goal line that we could not hit in.
“Unionville was a tough team, and they had a couple really talented, athletic kids. But I’m really proud of our guys with how we stayed in it. I think everyone across the board feels like we should have won the game, and we’re a bit disappointed that we left those goals out there.”

Council Rock North 2, Abington 0
Council Rock North opened its season with a strong defensive effort and scored once in each half to earn a 2-0 victory over Abington.
Keagan Terry put the Indians in front with an unassisted goal in the first half. The Indians continued to create opportunities before Isabel Diaz added an insurance goal in the second half off an assist from Darcy McCullough.

Council Rock North coach Gavin Flannigan:
—The game: “A good win to start the season. I thought we looked threatening throughout the game and just couldn’t finish the chances we made.
“Utilizing our depth this season will be a strength of ours, and we were pleased to get minutes from a lot of players today.”
Up next: Council Rock North will host Council Rock South in Tuesday’s SOL opener (7pm), and Abington will travel to Wissahickon for Wednesday’s SOL opener.

They hadn’t forgotten their last encounter with the Patriots.
And the Warriors certainly used last year’s second round exit from districts at the hands of the CB East as motivation when the two teams met on Saturday. Throw in the fact that CB East went on to capture the PIAA 4A state title, and they had even more incentive.
The two teams battled for 80 minutes on Henderson's home turf Saturday. East created several quality scoring opportunities but couldn’t find the finishing touch, battling Henderson to a scoreless tie.
“Congratulations to Henderson on a well-earned tie,” East coach Jake Nesteruk said. “We’ve drawn them in districts the past two years, and this was the first time we played at their place and in the regular season.
“They are an incredibly well-coached team, and their kids buy in and work their tails off for everything. You could see what this game meant to them, and it was fun and worthwhile to have such an early test for us.”

--The game: “From our end, we’re disappointed with the result, but I thought we did enough and created enough to walk away from the game with a win. I thought we put together a really good first half on the ball with Mia (Forney) and Taylor (Roumy) giving us their best 40 so far. Throw in some really good combination play and running off the ball from Mattie Williams and Kiera Sleicher and we definitely created some high-quality chances that we just didn’t bury.”
--Second half: “I thought we had some good spells, but lost our shape a bit as the game wore on and emotions got higher. I thought Cece Hayes was excellent tonight and same goes for Addie Langlois and Ella Roumy.
“Lots of positives from two games in two days, with plenty of work ahead of us next week.”
