District 1 3A playoffs
(2) Pennridge 3, (15) Upper Dublin 2 (27-29, 25-16, 22-25, 28-26, 18-16)
The Rams knew they would have their hands full when they faced Upper Dublin without all-everything senior Logan Jalosinski. The George Mason-bound senior, a returning all-state player, is 
sidelined with an injury.
“The guys stepped up in a tough situation against a tough opponent and came up big,” Pennridge coach Dave Childs said.
Owen Smith handed out 50 assists in a busy night. Travis Haggerty picked up the slack in Jalosinski’s absence, delivering 24 kills and two blocks. Marin Hartzel, Evan Wiley and Chase Shollenberger combined for 29 kills. Logan Wint’s 14 digs led the defense.

Pennridge hosts Central Bucks South at 7 pm Thursday in a second-round matchup.
(13) William Tennent 3, (4) Bensalem 1
Matt Kovalchuk dished out a whopping 41 assists as 13th seed William Tennent upset fourth-ranked
Bensalem 3-1 in Tuesday’s District 1 3A opening-round matchup. It is one of two major opening round upsets by SOL teams.
Aiden Royel had 16 digs, while Alex Pyavka delivered 14 kills and five aces.
By the numbers: William Tennent: Nate Mushinsky (4 blocks, 1 ace), Mark Zubach (2 blocks, 2 kills), Aidan Royel (16 digs, 1 ace), Dylan Sense (3 kills), Matt Kovalchuk (41 assists), Mike Boutromenko (9 kills), Max Stetsyuk (3 blocks, 2 aces, 13 kills), Alex Pyavka (5 aces, 14 kills).
Tennent advances and will visit fifth-seeded Spring-Ford at 7 pm Thursday in the second round of districts.
(9) North Penn 3, (8) Pennsbury 2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 15-8)
North Penn rallied after dropping the first set and battled their way to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Pennsbury in Tuesday’s District 1 3A opening-round matchup.
Sam Kim led the Knights with 29 assists and nine digs, while Liam Jeffers had 17 assists and six digs.
By the numbers: North Penn: Quinn Clarkson (18 kills and 6 digs), Daniel Arskiy (14 kills and 3 blocks), Logan Krider (8 kills and 2 blocks), Luca Dalla Costa (5 kills and 3 blocks), Kyle Park (7 kills and 2 blocks), Max Webb (6 kills, 2 aces and 1 block), Prithvi Patel (19 digs, 1 assist).
North Penn will visit top seed Wissahickon at 6 pm Thursday in a second-round matchup.
(14) Central Bucks West 3, (3) Lower Merion 2 (23-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-17, 15-9)
The Bucks made the trip to Lower Merion worth their while, earning a hard-fought win in a grueling five-set match to send the third-seeded Aces home for the season.
After dropping the first set and falling behind 2-1 after three sets, Central Bucks West rallied to win the next two, pulling off one of the major upsets of the opening round.
Nick Anton (25 assists) and Ben Halbe (19 assists) dished out the helpers, while Karl Linde finished the job with 16 kills and nine blocks.
By the numbers: Central Bucks West: Karl Linde (16 kills & 9 blocks), Dalton Estes (11 kills & 3 digs), Caleb Woodring (10 kills & 11 digs), Nick Anton (6 kills, 2 aces, 25 assists, 8 digs & 4 blocks), Ben Halbe (19 assists & 6 digs), Aiden Meijas (9 digs), Finn Haddon (6 digs).
The Bucks will advance to visit Neshaminy at 6 pm Thursday.
(7) Central Bucks South 3, (10) Unionville 1
CB South defeated Unionville 3-1 in the first round of District 1 playoffs. Senior setter Javi Robayo spread out the offense with 40 assists. Sophomore Max Zagnojny led the offense with 18 kills, followed by Jake Wullert's 14 kills.
The Titans played solid defense led by Michael Wang's 29 digs. Sophomore opposite hitter Will Forsyth had his strongest match of the season with 19 digs and 8 kills.
Up next: The Titans move on to play Pennridge on Thursday.
(1) Wissahickon 3, (16) Downingtown East 0
Wissahickon will host North Penn at 6 pm Thursday in the second round.
(6) Neshaminy 3, (11) Abington 2
Neshaminy advances to the second round and will visit Central Bucks West at 6 pm Thursday.
