Council Rock South 3, Central Bucks West 1
Council Rock South was knocking on the door early in the second quarter, but it was Central Bucks West that broke through first.
Instead of putting their heads down, the Golden Hawks rallied and answered with three goals to pull away for a 3-1 win.
AJ Renshall recorded an assist on Stephen Murray’s goal – which would hold up as the eventual game-winner – then Renshall capped off the scoring when he was credited with the goal after a West own goal.

Council Rock South assistant coach Zach Orenstein: “We’re very happy to end the week with a win against a good CB West team. They are a well-coached team, and they play a really nice brand of soccer. It was a long week. We had three away games in four days, and it was the first week of school. It can be draining. Credit to our captains and leaders for keeping everyone stuck in and pulling in the right direction.
“We had a battle with North on Tuesday and a tough showing against Wood on Thursday. We are very pleased with the team’s response today. We have a few guys that are banged up, so the long weekend comes at a good time.”
—On the flow of the game: “The first half was back and forth a bit. We had some chances to score. I felt we defended the set piece very well as West had a few corners and free kicks that they challenged us on.
“Early in the second half I actually felt we were knocking on the door to open the scoring when West scored. We had a few good looks and just couldn’t get it to go, then with an effective counter, we’re down 1-0. I am very proud of how we kept our composure and kept playing our way.
“We scored our first on a set piece played in by Brian Hyams that was addressed by Alex Abreu and landed on Jake Sadhkin’s foot inside 10 yards. Jake has been excellent this season in everything we ask him to do and this was a great reward for his effort. It was a great goal and really well executed.
“Stephen Murray put us ahead on a ball crossed in that AJ Renshall won. There was a bit of battle for it in front and Stephen popped out with it. The third came with about three left. AJ Renshall put a free kick into a dangerous area that went off a West defender and into the goal.”

Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Cheltenham 1
Plymouth Whitemarsh almost let Cheltenham back into the game.
After scoring the first two goals, the Colonials surrendered a tally to the Panthers to cut the lead to 2-1 at halftime. But the Colonials responded with two second-half goals to pull away and pick up the 4-1 victory in Friday’s SOL crossover game.
Dom Marcella and Finn Lafferty each had a goal and an assist for PW. Hayden Downer made 3 saves to secure the victory in the cage.

Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Toni Washington: “We came out on fire, scored two early, then took our foot off the gas, and Cheltenham took advantage of that and got one back on us from our error. We had many corner opportunities but couldn’t execute. Shout out to Cheltenham for making it difficult for us to get clean looks. In the second half, we were able to get back in the groove and put two more in the back of the net to seal the deal.”

Nonleague
Abington 1, Archbishop Ryan 1
Abington’s Zachary Yurchyshyn scored off a give-and-go with Samuel Arruda to knot the score at 1-1 in the first half, and the score would hold up as the final as the Ghosts earned a tie with nonleague opponent Archbishop Ryan in the latest installment of the longtime friendly rivalry between the two squads.
Abington junior goalkeeper Dom Veitz made a crucial save on a penalty kick late in the game to preserve the tie.

Abington coach Isaac Pitkow: “The atmosphere was awesome. There was a crowd of at least 100 people, and every time we play at Ryan there is a noticeable energy from the fans and home team that was present today.
“In our coaching staff‘s opinion, we were the better team by far. We didn’t keep track of shots, but I would estimate that we had about 20 to 25 shots total and they had about five shots total.”
—Falling behind early: “About 10 or 15 minutes into the first half, Ryan scored the first goal of the game, coming off a mistake from our senior captain and center back Kyle Kretschman. Kyle is a player, in his four-year career, who I can count on one hand the number of mistakes he has made in a game. It was so rare to see him make a mistake like this, but he turned the ball over, and they went in on a breakaway and scored.”
—Pulling even: “We responded about 10 minutes later with a goal from senior Zachary Yurchyshyn. It was a beautiful give-and-go combination with senior Samuel Arruda, who has been involved in the scoring for us lately, having scored four goals against Wissahickon. Sam played a nice ball through to Zach, who finished a great goal to tie the game at 1-1.”
—Second half and the final minutes: “We dominated for most of the second half with more shots, chances, and possession in the attacking half. Kyle was moved to striker and made an immediate impact on the attack, creating multiple scoring chances that we could not finish. There was also very strong attacking play from senior for Jaza Vasquez and senior forward Brennan Ewer in the second half.
“The game had a crazy ending that started with a penalty kick awarded to Ryan with about five minutes to play. Our student assistant coach Sunny Cen had scouted the opposing teams’ penalty kick taker, and informed our goalkeeper of which direction he would shoot. Our goalkeeper, junior Dom Veitz, made the penalty kick save to save the game for us in the final minutes. We missed multiple goal scoring chances created by Kyle as well as senior midfielder Owen Gesing, who had a very strong performance in the game as well.”
—Props: “Other notable performances go to senior captain Sean Westmoreland for his performance in the midfield and sophomore Kai O’Sullivan, who had his first start for the varsity team.
“I would also like to give props to the Archbishop Ryan coaching staff, led by Ryan Haney, who coached a very good game. The players on Ryan were extremely motivated, organized, and relentless with their work rate.”
—A special game: “It is always a special game when we play against Archbishop Ryan as Coach Haney was my coach back in the day when I played for Philadelphia Soccer Club Coppa 93 Roughnecks. Ryan Haney is also the current club coach of our four senior captains Kyle Kretschman, Sean Westmoreland, Owen Gesing, and Jaza Vasquez, which added an extra flavor to the game. Finally, Coach Haney as a player was coached by Randy Garber back in the day – that makes it a full circle moment every time we play against Ryan.
“Another fun fact about the game was a college coach in attendance. His name was Timmy Lazorko, who is the head assistant coach for Saint Joe’s University men’s soccer. Coach Lazorko coaches at the Ukrainian Nationals with Coach Haney and was a teammate of mine on the Coppa 93 Roughnecks team that was coached by Coach Haney as well.”

Neshaminy 1, Garnet Valley 1
Garnet Valley found the net on its first opportunity of the game. Neshaminy tied it up in the second half, but despite dominating in shots and possession, could not find the cage a second time as Neshaminy settled for a 1-1 tie in Friday’s nonleague game.
Neshaminy scored the tying goal when Zach Hargraves found Connor Choi, who used a nice solo effort to get free to pass the ball to Monty Jawawdeh, who netted the ball to tie the game.

Neshaminy coach Tom Foley:
—The game: "We actually had a late arriving bus and we got 15 minutes to warm up. We came out of the chute pretty well, and we were down in their end for the first five minutes.
"The first time Garnet Valley got out of their zone, they got a fortuitous bounce from their guy, and they got a shot from 18 yards out. We had corners, and we had many opportunities to score in the first half.
"Second half, we came out – same thing as the first. At one point, Zach Hargraves gave Connor Choi an overlapping run and good pass, and Connor took it to the end line. He pulled it back right in the middle of the park, and Monty Jawawdeh knocked it in to tie it up.
"The rest of the game was the same. We probably out-cornered them 18-1, outshot them 17 or 18-2. We just couldn't get the second goal.
"Overall, we moved the ball well – we moved it up and down. They would clear it, we would stop their thrust and go back at them again. It was just rinse and repeat. We just couldn't score, so we'll keep getting at it and hopefully, they start falling for us. It's not like we're not generating opportunities. We're just not fortunate, and you know we make one silly error or they get one fortuitous bounce, and they seem to be cashing in all of them, and we're not. I'd be unhappy if we weren't generating the chances. We generate chances. We just don't seem to be knocking them in."
—Props: "Our front line played really well. Monty Jawawdeh played well. Jaxson Flannery came in to relieve him, and he played well up top. Brody Collins played well in the midfield, and Zach Hargraves on the right side."
