CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1, UPPER DUBLIN 0
The Bucks opened their season with a strong defensive performance, scoring in the first half and protecting the lead for a 1-0 victory over Upper Dublin.
Michael Rafalowski provided the game’s only goal in the 29th minute. Goalkeeper Alex Abbasi and defenders John Lueck, Zach Schaefer and Albion Plaka helped West preserved the shutout against a tough Upper Dublin side.
The Bucks, who were without last year’s leading goal scorer Beck Walton (injury), received important contributions throughout its young lineup. Max Petrella, Dan Richmond and Tommy DeYoung were among the players whose work helped create opportunities for their teammates.

—The game: “It was a great way for us to start the season because we were nowhere near our best and still managed to find a way to earn a result against a good team. Noah (Johnson) always does a great job with that program, and they’re never easy to play against.
“Given how young and inexperienced we were, I truly didn’t know how we’d respond to such a big test right out of the gates. With that in mind, I couldn’t be more proud of our group. We were forced to look a little different than we had planned due to an injury to Beck Walton, who led our team in goals last season, but every guy came out on the front foot, aggressive and physical.
“We showed massive improvement in our pressing and counter-pressing moments from our lone scrimmage last week and were difficult to play against.”
--Props: “Any time your team gets a clean sheet, you’d be remiss not to mention your back line and goalkeeper. Alex Abbasi was terrific for us in goal and a calming presence, while the likes of John Lueck, Zach Schaefer and Albion Plaka were brave in every challenge and never lost focus.
“Michael created the moment that mattered in the end, and he’s done that consistently for us for four years now. But it’s the guys like Max Petrella, Dan Richmond and Tommy DeYoung who do so much selfless running that gives other players the platform to shine in the big moments.”
Up next: Central Bucks West will host Central Bucks South in Wednesday’s SOL opener, and Upper Dublin (1-1) will host Quakertown Wednesday.

SPRINGFIELD TWP 3, WISSAHICKON 2
The Spartans took a 3-0 lead midway through the second half and then withstood a tenacious Trojan comeback to earn the win in Monday’s non-league SOL crossover contest.
Sean Currier and Matt Corcoran each scored a first-half goal, and the Spartans upped their lead to 3-0 when Eden Ha found the back of the net midway through the second half.
With 10 minutes remaining, Brayden Vorchheimer put the Trojans on the scoreboard, and five minutes later, Tyler Philip turned a Nolan Reilly pass into a goal that pulled the Trojans to within one. They would get no closer.

--The game: “The team showed great resilience coming from a three-goal deficit to make things interesting with two goals in the final 10 minutes. Springfield is a solid team who put in a good performance and deservedly was leading the game. We are hoping to build on this performance as the season progresses.”

SOUDERTON 2, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1
Quincey Klimovich picked an opportune time to score his first varsity goal late in the first half of Monday’s non-league opener, turning a pass from Marlon Galvon into a goal that spotted the Indians a 2-1 lead and stood as the game-winner
"Quincey scored with 5 minutes left in the first half off a great free kick from (Zyad) Bouidi," Souderton coach Frank Demas said. "Quincy was the first to react in the box, slotting the ball into the corner of the net."
Galvon had a hand in both goals, scoring the Indians’ first goal with a Cole Manners assist after the Crusaders had taken an early 1-0 lead.
The win was big for an Indian squad that lost nine starters from last year’s team to graduation.

Souderton coach Frank Demas:
--The game: “While we did not have our best day by any means, it’s still nice to start the year with a win. The game itself was incredibly ugly - the mud and rain made it difficult to play any kind of aesthetically pleasing soccer. But we did grind it out.
“LC had a lot of talent and played very tough. They had a ton of energy all game long and scored a goal early to go up 1-0. Their number 8- Pat Schaefer - was incredible all game long.
“To our credit, we picked our heads right up and kept on playing. Huge leadership and positive energy from a lot of our guys- especially seniors (Brayden) Muller and (Trevor) Alderfer. We then got a great boost from the bench Scoring two goal to finish off the first half 2-1.
“All and all it was a great learning experience for our guys. Especially with the majority of our starters and bench getting their first ever varsity minutes today.”
Up next: Souderton will travel to Central Bucks East for Wednesday’s SOL opener.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4, PENN CHARTER 0
Matt Brozyna turned a pass from Tej Patel into a goal less than a minute into Monday’s SOL opener, and the Indians were off and running. They led 2-0 at the intermission, thanks to a goal in the final minute of the half by Jason Foulke (Shawn Murphy assist).
Andrew Fench scored eight minutes into the second half, also with a Murphy assist, David Morais closed out the scoring (Matt Ross assist), and Elias Berman was credited with the clean sheet in goal.

--The game: “I was pleased with the composure of the team. We possessed the ball roughly 80 percent of the time and controlled the pace of the game. Our work rate was really good.”
--Props: “Our goalkeeper, Elias Berman, and three backs—Andrew French, Chase Murphy and Gavin Brizuela—did an excellent job of distributing the ball and keeping control of play.”

HARRY S TRUMAN 5, MaST II 0
Sparked by the glittering four-goal effort of Aloysious Toe, the Tigers opened their season with an impressive offensive performance and a shutout, defeating MaST II 5-0 on the road.
After a scoreless opening 10 minutes, Aloysious Toe broke the deadlock with a goal in the 12th minute. Toe added a pair of goals to complete a first-half hat trick and give the Tigers a 3-0 halftime lead.
Toe scored his fourth goal in the 58th minute before Kevin Zambrano completed the scoring in the 68th.
Goalkeeper Joey Tizol earned his first varsity victory and clean sheet behind starting center backs Julian Kelsey and JJ Jimenez. Randy Araya, Joey Dunn, Matt Emrich and Justin Rodriguez also contributed strong minutes along the back line as Truman limited MaST II’s opportunities.

—The game: “After a quiet first 10 minutes, Aloysious Toe broke the deadlock with a clinical low finish into the bottom corner. Toe dominated the opening half, completing a hat-trick before adding a fourth goal in the second half. The Tigers' offense kept the pressure high throughout, netting five total goals while repeatedly threatening the woodwork with multiple shots off the posts and crossbar.”
--Getting defensive: “Defensively, Truman delivered a shutout. Joey Tizol secured his first varsity victory and clean sheet between the posts, well-protected by starting center-backs Julian Kelsey and JJ Jimenez. Randy Araya, Joey Dunn, Matt Emrich, and Justin Rodriguez all put in strong minutes along the back line, limiting MaST II’s chances before squad rotations allowed swing players to gain valuable varsity experience.
Up next: Harry S Truman will face Bensalem in its SOL opener Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on Bensalem’s varsity field.
“It was important for us to get a match on grass under our belts ahead of Wednesday’s game against Bensalem,” Brown said. “We put in time on our grass practice field for this exact reason, and it paid off.
“We also came out of the game without major injury, just a slight ankle sprain. Our JV team plays tomorrow at Archbishop Ryan, and I am looking forward to seeing those boys play.”

William Tennent took a 3-0 lead into halftime on its way to the decisive shutout win in the team’s season opener.
Ryder Holt opened the scoring approximately 15 minutes into the game, and the Panthers never looked back.
